Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" has a limited theatrical re-release, with 25 additional minutes restored from a 16mm print found in Argentina. (Han shoots first.)

It may be playing in your area, see the website for locations.

Thank you for posting this!

About a year ago (I think), I read about the recent discoveries and wondered if and how soon it would make it to theaters. It's good to see it really happening.

When the DVD comes out, I'll have to upgrade my 2002 edition.

A few months ago it had its official cinema premier, I was astonished to see a authorised torrent released of the show, including the live orchestra performance

It's playing in St Louis July 23rd! Who wants to go?

ETA: I do hope as a result of all this, someone does a proper and complete box set. He was certainly one of the great filmmakers of the first half of the 20th century.

I doubt the screen version will come around here, so I look forward to the DVD of this, though I suspect it will be shockingly expensive to buy. I recently got and watched the previous expanded, restored Kino DVD that came out a few years ago, which includes a great deal of material not seen in older versions but still lacked a few scenes, which were written out in outline form for continuity. Having seen the old version that was around in VHS for years and years, I was impressed with how much more sense it makes when the whole plot is there and the images themselves are not distractingly degraded.

Great to hear.

Metropolis is so ahead of the movie making curve at the time of it's release, that it never fails to blow me away.

I mean it has a certain hokeyness of course, but the concepts and effects wouldn't be matched for decades. This is an 83 year old movie where a cyborg builds a robot for crying out loud!

Yeppers, classic not just for the scifi elements, but for the cinematic elements. This is a great movie, and it's wonderful to be alive to see the complete restoration. I'm looking forward to upgrading my own copy!

I saw half of the first performance live on TV here in Germany as they were recording things (the orchestra music) for the DVD. I missed the first half because I got the start time wrong. :(

There some patches that look really ratty, but the story makes up for it. You will also be surprised what they could do with special effects already that far back.

Good movie, and as soon as it comes out on DVD I'm going to own a copy.

I don't get your comment. Care to explain?

Strange you're not aware of this, since you mentioned it, but Burning Man is named for the burning man effigy that is burnt every year. Not the most original name for the event, but it had the advantage of not being used by anyone else:
