When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. In the old software signatures were limited by a character limit, on Xenfora there are more options and there is a character number and number of lines limit. I've set maximum number of lines to 4 and unlimited characters.

How to be a non-believer in a believing world

I use to be a Christian. But I don't think I was ever a believer. Even as a 6 year old I just couldn't believe a woman was made out of Adam's rib. Or that a snake spoke to Eve. Or a donkey spoke to Absalom. Or that a 500 year old drunkard built a huge boat and gathered two of every animal...

Telling folks what Christianity really teaches is hardly "proselytizing"

Oh where to start oh where.... Other than that the statements are belied thoroughly by what the New Tall tales actually say Jesus said about hating one's own kin an kith to be worthy of the cult leader.... and other than that history definitively rives to smithereens the assertions with...

    Ed Christianity Foments Villainy

What most people fail to understand is that Christianity is a WARRANT for villainy. I will say that again Christianity RATIFIES evil. Any villain aspirant loves Christianity. That is why Constantine adopted it. A person who TRULY and seriously believes in the TENETS of Christianity knows that...

    Your spouse in Heaven

Many Christians (and, I presume, believers of other religions) believe or hope that they will somehow get reunited in Heaven with their family and other loved ones after they die and get the thumbs-up by their god. I have often wondered how they will recognize each other. Will they meet the...

Why there is no Christian reason to oppose Abortion

I've never understood why fundamentalist Christians oppose abortion. They clearly DO NOT know scripture. The commandment doesn't say Thou shall not kill, it says Thou shall not murder. God orders the Jews to kill people for all kinds of offenses. A husband has a right to slay his bride if...

I absolutely love the Nativity story

I love, absolutely love, the Nativity story. Somewhere I have a small creche that I used to put up every year. A special baby is born into reduced circumstances and everyone, from kings to shepherds and the beasts of the fields, knows he is special. I enjoy the portents, the star, the herald...

    How Christians View Themselves

I came across this today. I found it an interesting reflection on how at least some Christians view themselves. http://adam4d.com/christian/ Thoughts?

    Which Christianity would you choose?

There are very many denominations and sects in Christianity, and I was sort-of raised in a rather unforgiving one. Actually my mom deliberately did not ram it down our throats and baptism in the Church of Christ was a choice. I did not get baptized, but my brother ended up being confirmed as an...

    Ignorance and eternal punishment

Not sure what denomination or set of denominations this is, but I've spoken to Christians who believe that those who are completely ignorant of the bible and god will NOT go to hell, whereas anyone else will if they aren't "saved" through Jesus. What I'm wondering is IF there are any of those...

    Have you read the Bible?

Well, have you? By "read" let's assume that I mean that you have read the majority of it. I've read all of it, but I admit to skimming all of the boring begats. I consider this to be having read the Bible. Select one of the "I am/have been a Christian" options if at any time in your life...

The Jesus Myth, and it's failures

This sprouted from another topic. Instead of getting off topic there, I have decided to open a new thread. I am aware that there have been other threads on this subject, but I would rather not resurrect an old thread. So I wanted to start a new thread. Before I go more into detail on the...

Debate: Christianity: Good or Bad for Mankind?

Is Christianity a net positive for humanity, or a net negative? Christian conservative, Dinesh D'Souza will debate philosophy professor, Andrew Bernstein at UT Austin this Friday, February 8th, 7:00 to 9:00 pm (Central Time.) This debate will have a live audience and will be LiveStreamed on...

You can't love Ayn and be a Christian

"You can't be Objectivist and Christian at the same time!", piquantly squealeth the socialist who fancies himself clever. "I gotcha!" Sadly, you cannot be socialist and Christian, either. Jesus said to help your neighbor. He didn't say to pull out a gun and force your neighbor to help your...

    The bible condones slavery

So um whats up with that? The OT tells you how to buy slaves and were talking men, women and children. Even Jesus has no problem with slavery and prescribes how to be a good slave. So im thinking Christians should have no problem with it also? Even the NT has instructions on how to be a good...

Ancient conspiracy to hide the Truth about Jesus Christ?

OK, I've been lurking for a while, and randi.org seems like the perfect place to pose this topic for consideration. The first part's not exactly woo, since it's an argument that's been made numerous times by scholars since the 1950s, and had the endorsement of Joseph Campbell and Huston Smith...

    Satanic Panic TV show

I think the 'Satanic Panic' of the late 80s and early 90s is one of the most overlooked pieces of recent social history, especially considering how instructive it is about evangelical Christianity, which, in my understanding, propelled the paranoia and madness out of the churches and into the...

Homosexuality can be cured - say orthodox rabbis and calvinists

In December 2011, 162 orthodox rabbis and "health professionals" have signed a "Declaration On The Torah Approach To Homosexuality". Therein, they claim that The signatories are mainly from the USA, but there are also some from Israel, the UK and other countries. New York-based Rabbi Aryeh...

    Cultural And Mental Slavery?

    Christian Salvation Is Heinously Unjust

Some Pertinent Background facts According to the Christian Catechisms you can only be saved by believing in Christ. (Salvation) Also, even if you are a sinner so long as you repent and avow that Christ died for your sins and are baptized you will still go to heaven. (Atonement) Further, an...

    Spiritual Warfare

The evangelical Christian concept of spiritual warfare can be traced almost entirely to the sixth chapter of Paul's epistle to the Ephesians, an epistle whose validity as genuinely from the pen of the apostle Paul has been disputed. The section on spiritual warfare begins at Eph. 6:10 with an...

"The Word"/Reason/Wisdom, not "Jesus" in the usual sense, is The Way to Salvation/God

"The Word"/Reason/Wisdom, not "Jesus" in the usual sense, is The Way to Salvation/God the real lovers of God do not belong to any particular religion, for all the religions have the same fundamental teachings on the nature of God & how one becomes like God in respect to wisdom, love, joy, etc...

If No Constantine, No Christianity for Past 2,000 Years?

    Does anyone hate Jesus?

"Jesus loves all of us, even those that hate him..." This was posted on Facebook by an acquaintance of mine, and I wondered: "Does anybody really 'hate' Jesus?" I'm a skeptic and polyatheist, but I hate Jesus no more than I do any other deity or fictional hero: Thor, Zeus, Krishna, Santa...
