Rationally Speaking Live
Massimo Pigliucci, Julia Galef, & Lawrence Krauss
Does the modern scientific enterprise provide us with our only reliable source of knowledge? Or does science itself require philosophical foundations? What do philosophers have to tell us about the limits and utility of science? Physicist Lawrence Krauss and biologist-philosopher Massimo Pigliucci will discuss the relationship between science and philosophy, moderated by Rationally Speaking co-host Julia Galef.
Did anyone see this talk?
Is any video or podcast going to appear of this discussion?
I know the podcast will be released in a week or two or so.
There might be a video release a few months later, but I'm not sure. Most NECSS sessions are eventually going up on YouTube, but I am not sure if that includes sessions that were going to become podcasts.
I saw the talk, if you have any questions about it.
I was wondering if this was a debate in which one speaker or another took different sides of the questions in the quote. I know that Pigliucci and Krauss do not always have complimentary things to say about each other. Were they in agreement here or were they slapping each other about?

Julia was hot. That's what I noticed.
I've been informed that the podcast is already up on the Rationally Speaking site, as of last night, so you can hear it all, yourself!I was wondering if this was a debate in which one speaker or another took different sides of the questions in the quote. She is. What did she say in the discussion?

There wasn't a lot of debate in this session. Krauss talked a bit about the lackluster progress in String Theory. I think Massimo largely agreed with him.
The "debate" didn't really start until Brian Wecht, a string theorist, asked the first question from the audience. But, it wasn't even all that confrontational even then.
Krauss also, briefly, talked about the geocentricism movie scandal. Just to get that over with, so he (presumably) won't have to talk about it, again.
But, you'll get it all on-line, now.
Are you sure? A lot of people in the room complained that they were freezing.
/Sexist answer: Nothing. She didn't have to.
/Real answer: Nothing. I only saw the last few minutes and Q&A. I don't recall her saying anything. Besides, just about all the questions were for LK.
Krause is a great speaker, and even though I don't listen to podcasts, I'll look for this one when it comes out.
