d. Other than rumours, there isn't any evidence that said shooters were. Over in Conspiracy Theories Caustic Logic has been trying to convince us that his video analysis proves it, but it is so deficient that I think the only person he's been able to convince of his theory is himself....

About the same results he's achieved with his "Pussy Riot is a George Soros creation" theory.

Putin wrote an interesting letter to European leaders about the dire state of Ukrainian economy, especially with regards to the unpaid gas bills, and the need to quickly find a solution together.

Naturally some nags in Washington couldn't resist to give their unrequested opinion. Putin's answer:

:D

The Ukranian economy is a core issue. I don't think it's getting much healthier at the moment.

Who will bail them out this year? Russia looks like they are not interested.

I'd say that Russia is interested in NOT bailing them out.

Should the EU?

As an American taxpayer, I would like the US to NOT be involved in such a bail out.

Is this true?
Is such name calling necessary?

I should have said that Russia seems to be wanting to weaken Ukraine - economic warfare in effect.

Destabilising Ukraine is going to make Europe (and Russia) worse off. It could have a knock-on effect on the US via the world economy.

As a European taxpayer I'd rather that the EU tried to support Ukraine rather than deal with a Yugoslavia-style problem but in a population of 45-million.

I can't speak to how desperate Putin is, but that he's a despot is becoming more clear. He's basically everything the extreme right and conspiracy theorists say that Obama is, except when it comes to guns, which naturally means he's a great protector of Christianity.

We all know it was your psychotic puppet Sackarschwilli who thought he would have backing when he decided to start trouble in South-Ossetia. You don't get away with rewriting history, and nitpicking the general picture of that table is not permitted. Comprende?

I sometimes wonder if Bagram sometimes gets jealous of Guantanamo and Abu Graib, because people forget it all the time...

Actually, he comes off as (in my view cynically and for political purpose) a vocal supporter of a rebirth/renewal of the Russian Orthodox faith. That seems to fit with a theme of nationalism that has run throughout his time in power. Whether or not that makes him a "protector of Christianity" I am not sure, but it makes him an advocate of at least one form of it.

EDIT:
for dcdrac: what I meant by "links appreciated, thanks" was that I read your links and am glad you posted them. It occurs to me that I was asking for a link to evidence of Putin as desperate and despotic. Sorry if that came off as ambiguous.

Here's the "president"'s statement. It's all a conspiracy of course, like our local CTers certainly agree. Can't have anything to with the fact that almost nobody in the East, including but not only Yanukovic's voting base, accepts those putschist clowns. That would be crazy talk.

El Presidente said:
Taking into consideration the passive behavior of some local law enforcement bodies, they will be strengthened with subdivisions from other regions.

Translation: We'll send our thugs in now. Oh wait, they just stormed our supreme court...

So they did send some forces to the East, several times apparently, but nothing arrived there willing to fulfill their orders. One building in Charkow was raided apparently, and the police chief resigned after that saying he was misled and expected dangerous militia while they were unarmed locals. A special forces guy made a public statement refusing to follow orders as they were trained to combat terrorism and there was nothing to see in I think Donetsk. Those buildings occupied on Monday are still occupied.

By now more arms show up and more state buildings also in smaller town are getting occupied with police forces watching or even joining. It seems what they want is first of all the Junta to piss off/law and order to return. I don't think the majority wants to join Russia or even insists on more Federalism, this isn't Crimea. But one has to keep in mind that not only the gas bills aren't payed, also the wages of police, firefighters, teachers etc, pensions, the state more or less stopped paying anything. So it is really serious for the simple people on the ground, like those ladies in Kramatorsk today:

Funny how:

The evidence that the shooters were is plentiful.

Funny thing about your video analysis - it's always dead-set against mine. Not that I'm always right but when I saw gunfire against the Berkut security post, as the Berkut jogged away from it in haste, you insisted they were taking no fire. For the puffs of dust from the sandbags, you suggested falling building debris or wind gusts. Classic denial of a failed point. Then you acknowledged maybe it was, like, an air rifle, which sounds fine to me. That would be gunfire. Duh.
