The South Carolina state legislature is seriously considering the following bill

A BILL
TO AMEND ARTICLE 9, CHAPTER 1, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO STATE EMBLEMS, BY ADDING SECTION 1-1-712A, SO AS TO DESIGNATE THE COLUMBIAN MAMMOTH AS THE OFFICIAL STATE FOSSIL.

Amend Title To Conform

Whereas, giant mammoths used to roam South Carolina; and

Whereas, scientists have identified the fossils of about six hundred and fifty species of vertebrates in South Carolina to date; and

Whereas, it has been recognized that fossilized mammoth teeth were discovered in a swamp in South Carolina in 1725; and

Whereas, this discovery has been credited as the first scientific identification of a North American vertebrate fossil. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 9, Chapter 1, Title 1 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 1-1-712A. The Columbian Mammoth, which was created on the Sixth Day with the other beasts of the field, is designated as the official State Fossil of South Carolina and must be officially referred to as the 'Columbian Mammoth', which was created on the Sixth Day with the other beasts of the field."

The stupid, it burns.

I was wondering what was wrong with that... Then I read the last bit...

*sigh* sometimes I think we should have just let the South leave the Union.

I'm confused...so was the Columbian Mammoth created on the Sixth Day with the other beasts of the field or not?

Stop being intentionally ignorant - of course it was not created on the 6th day. Clearly like all other marine mammals it created at 2.15pm Central time on the 5th day - Which I believe was a Thursday, unless the previous year was a leap year, then it would be Wednesday :p

Was to created on the 6th day. Of 1,000,000 BCE (or thereabouts).

Were any of you there? Hunh?
I didn't think so.

House bill 4482 (wooly mammoth) passed and was given to the state senate. That bill did not mention the bible reference. When the bill got to the Senate floor, Kevin L. Bryant (R-District 3) added the creationism bit as an amendment. That bill, with the added wordingt, passed and is now back in the House so that they can vote on the creationism version. The OPer was not exaggerating with the phrase seriously considering.

ETA this summation ignores some of the finer points of the legislative process that the bill went through, but is substantially correct.
On an unrelated note, The Senate version added another amendment saying that there will be no more official state whatevers because there are enough already.

I'll admit, I never foresaw the cause of the eventual Civil War II would be over wooly mammoths. I just didn't see it coming. Fort Sumter, yeah. Wooly mammoths? Not so much. Even John C Calhoun would have been hard pressed to come up with a speech for that.

If God wanted there to be woolly mammoths, how come they died out? Not enough room on the Ark? Were they wicked?

Good news.
The House rejected the reworded bill with a 72-30 vote on Wednesday.

The bill is expected to go to committee.

Rumor has it that here in Mississippi, the legislature is considering designating Haley "I just don’t remember [racism] as being that bad" Barbour as the official state fossil. There are a lot of Republicans who don't understand what the word "fossil" really means- and think Barbour's views are up to date- so it has a fair chance of passing.

Was Barbour created on the sixth day with the other beasts of the field?
