Thanks acbytesla. Grinder's reactions to things is sometimes bizarre, IMO. I'm not sure why ANYONE would want to ingratiate themselves to Feinstein, a minor league tabloid writer who stumbled upon, and blew the opportunity with, an inmate who once rubbed shoulders with Amanda Knox.
If I'd tried to cozy up to her, I chose a funny way of doing it... calling her in private PM and publicly, er, " a minor league tabloid journalist who perhaps blew the ONLY real scoop she'd ever get." She had access into the prison, and blew it, choosing instead to go for the slut-value to cause her readers to tut-tut about the smelly habits of an American; using nothing but the obvious bad relation Knox had with at least one other prisoner.
That's a story? That's something to want to cozy up to Feinstein for? It must have been the other Bill Williams.
In fact, the woman Feinstein wrote about also talked about the mean things she did to Knox. For some reason - gee, I wonder why? - that was only a passing reference in Feinstein's account. I managed to get out of Feinstein that a good portion of the "interviewing" done with the ex-inmate was not done by her at all.
It was no less than Barbie Nadeau who said that one of the problems with the coverage of this case in the first months (Nov-Dec 2007 and beyond) was that major news agencies didn't have the funds, so she said, to send top of the lines nbews people to cover the trial... so it fell to the Nick Pisas, Nick Squires, Barbie Nadeau's and Andrea Vogts of the world, not to mention John Follain. (That's not the way she put it, that's the way I put it....)
This whole thing was covered "tabloid style" esp. from the beginning. Everyone has tried to monetize it, and a part of me says, "why not?" That's what journalists do....
Feinstein was a late comer, but certainly fit the mould. She stumbled on a source in the prison to get some tut-tut-value out of it, and she even blew that.
To understand the background of this, it was that Egan fellow from the NYTimes who finally did go to try to cover this, and discovered the pressure these tabloid stringers were under. The UK Tabs particularly would pay on a story by story basis, and would simply buy the most lurid one; Egan talked with a foreign journalist in Perugia back then who confessed the whole gig; provide something lurid our one does not get paid. It was that simple.
I guess it's probably good that a journalist doesn't have a "public opinion" on these things, at least one that does not show through too badly through their coverage..... but Egan was shocked that the tab-journalists he talked with didn't even have a working understanding of the crime itself.
Much like the guilters who devour Twitter these days - they can't express an opinion about Time of Death, for instance.... but man o man can they say slutty things about Amanda Knox.
I guess there's not much to talk about until Nencini's motivations is published. I plead guilty to that.
I don't get why that article ever made the news, Bill. Heresay about Amanda from another prisoner who didn't like Amanda? Wow!!! This qualifies as news and a credible source in today's environment? That article is proof that the media will publish just abut anything to sell advertising. This qualifies as catty gossip and that is all.
Twitter only allows 140 characters per tweet. I'm only getting warmed up in 140 characters. Doesn't exactly allow people to discuss the evidence in any depth.
