Sounds like more people who think science and education should be a popularity contest.
"In a release Monday, the group said the state needs to include more parents and community members who are not teachers in the standards-writing process."
Let's do that for medicine, too. Let the community vote on what treatments should be given at the hospital. Let your neighbor decide if you need your gall bladder removed.

According to society, EVERYTHING (politics, economics (see smoking), pop culture) beats science.
Also, education is pretty much ignored, except as apply-a-quick-fix-that-does-not-work when it is shown as relatively bad.
Politicians suck. Glad I'm not one. (Or a journalist.)
