Why do you think your fear must mean that there must be sometthing else? I am, inexplicably, a mottophobe but I don't go around claiming moths dont exist.

Not only do they exist, there's one on your shoulder.

You have kids. You have grand kids. You somehow think it is a reasonable waste of your time to fret about your survival? You are willing to dump on your kids and grandkids in favour of your own survival? That is what is important to you?

Wow. ETA: Above addressed to jabba.

- Never have I suggested that there must be life after death because I fear oblivion -- or even have I suggested that there must be life after death because so many humans fear oblivion.

On the contrary, that's one of the very few reasons you gave for coming up with the idea of some sort of immortality. Give me a moment and I'll find the post.

Plain flat out wrong. Or shall we forget your shroud nonsense?

- I finally figured out why I didn't want to call the "self" the "soul." "Self" does not imply immortality -- whereas, "soul" does.

- If you think I said that, you misunderstood what I was saying.

Wait, you now claim that the "self" you claim is not the soul, but also does not claim immortality.

Despite the fact that you have avoided the soul claim like it was arsenic.

Is there any hoop through which you will not dance?

Just that because you want it to be true you're trying to create an argument that says it is?

Why do you think that problems with your arguments can be fixed by changing how you word them?

And the whole faux outline approach to writing responses is pretty strange, especially for single sentence responses.

- I was just referring to we who do fear death. I was not referring to you guys. I know that you guys do not fit into that category. There are plenty of us humans out her that do.

Good Afternoon,Mr. Savage!

Are you implying that we who do not fear death are, in your estimation, not humans?

If your model only works with, or is only interesting to, "guys" who do not fear death, why are you here?

Might you simply explain what you are talking about, and present your evidence?

Thanks!

What are you suggesting? Your suggestion seems to change with every post that you make.

Mr. Savage:

It seems to me that you have, in fact, stated that your fear of oblivion is what has motivated you to believe in "immortality". If this is not true, why have you waited until now to dispel this confusion?

Surely you can't have forgotten that you posted that. Do you or do you not fear death?

I think Jabba means that fear of death does not in itself provide evidence for immortality, even if it motivates someone to look for such evidence.

Good Afternoon, Mr. Savage!

My reason for calling the thing you are not talking about a "soul" is precisely that--you began with the claim that you could "essentially prove" "immortality".

Have you abandoned that quest?

The word is failed, not abandoned.

- I finally figured out why I didn't want to call the "self" the "soul." "Self" does not imply immortality -- whereas, "soul" does.

Why? Aren't there a lot of religions that claim the existence of a soul but do not claim immortality? Can't a "soul" die with the brain? Anyway- call it what you want, there is no scientific evidence for a "soul" or a "self."

My concept of "me" relies entirely on my memories- who I was and who I am. Your reassurance that my "self" would survive my death, but not my memories, becomes as meaningless to me as the reassurance that the calcium in my bones will survive my death and be recycled. As others here, I am more relieved that half of my genes, and part of my viewpoint and memories, will be preserved in my children.

By the way, you have certainly said that you would like immortality to be true because you are afraid of death. You might like to believe your "proof" is independent of that fear, but as others here have told you, your proof is terribly flawed and the only reason you can't see the flaws appears to be related to your wish to believe in immortality.
