Al Sharpton channels Garrett Morris...

It was here or humor... Here seemed like a better fit by the tiniest of margins. :D

I lost a lot of respect for the "Rational Wiki" website when I read their article on Al Sharpton, which was basically a whitewash of him. When it comes to poltiics, Rational Wiki is not very rational. They violently condemn conservative figures for woo and nonsense, but either excuse away or ignore left wing figure when they indulge in the same. Double Standards Rock!

And the hiring of Al Sharpton by MSNBC just confirmed my "just a bizarro version of Fox News, and no more to be trusted" opinions.

I have real problems, given his record, of how anybody can take Sharpton serously.

I've only seen a couple Rational Wiki articles so I don't really know their policies, but couldn't you change ones you find to not be up to snuff like most other wikis?

Yes, but then somebody changes it back. That is the whole problem with the "Anybody Can Edit" Wiki idea.
And the people who statred Rational Wiki make no secret of their left poltical viewpoint. I dont play in games with stacked odds.

Obviously I don't have much experience with this particular wiki, but Sharpton's page says "a legitimate criticism is that he's had a penchant for overblowing various issues, as well as making anti-Semitic remarks in the past. As a result, he's sometimes been compared to various ideologues like Pat Buchanan" and has him in the "Extreme moonbattery" category and no one has reverted those edits. It has a generally left wing feel to it but it doesn't read like a conservapedia type entry.

I'll take your word, however, that the edit-revert cycle has been a problem elsewhere on it.

^What dudalb said.

Except that these comments don't make any sense. When MSNBC hired Al Sharpton, I too was wondering how biased he would be after the way he jumped to take Tawana Brawley's side. I've watched him probably 70% of the time since he got his own show and I haven't seen anything that has been said about him here. He doesn't make anti-semitic remarks and seems to have very little bias except for perhaps an over-sensitization about racial prejudice. In other words, Reverend Sharpton often doesn't seem to realize that everyone has prejudices, even Jesus was prejudiced. The people who tended to be more zealous like Keith Olberman and Cenk Yugar were fired. Sharpton is nothing like the side-show that is Fox on a daily basis.

It's that credibility boomerang thing I keep hearing about. Once you throw it away, it's not coming back.

Can you think of any reasons why we should take the Rev Al Sharpton as anything other than a clown performance artist?

I saw him on Law and Order, and he did an excellent job of portraying himself.

I'M NOT SURE HOW GOOD THE VIDEO IS. FROM THE BACKGROUND IMAGES IT LOOKED LIKE A LOT OF THEM WERE HIM QUOTING OBAMA IN THE CONTEXT OF RECAPPING HIS SPECIFIC SPEECH, SO I'M NOT SEEING THE HORRIBLENESS. FURTHER, WHY ASSUME THAT OBAMA WAS THE ORIGINATOR OF SAID TALKING POINTS? PERHAPS THEY BOTH GET THE SAME DEMOCRATIC MEMO.

Even if he was, he was doing it just louder, a la the Garret Morris "hard of hearing" skit.

When did Sharpton get so thin? I hadn't paid much attention to him in ages but back in the day he seemed to almost revel in being overweight.

Al Sharpton, C. Vernon Mason and Alton Maddox should all go off and rot somewhere in obscurity. If you lived in NYC in the late 80s/early 90s and saw the horrid hoax they perpetrated, you'd know exactly what I mean. I hold Dick Cheney in higher regard than Al Sharpton.

Yeah, this is something Sharpton does a lot as part of his rhetorical style, regardless of who's quote he's discussing. You can tell if he doesn't approve, because he changes the mini-quote into a question.

You're calling him a clown in comparison to the circus that is Fox and Friends? Seriously?

It wasn't just the Tawana Brawley fiasco either, he instigated hatred and riots and people died.

That's a nice claim but wouldn't it great if you had any scrap of fact to support it? Sharpton has been involved in a number of protests and has been arrested a number of times. But, you can't find a single video of any speech he has given where he has called for violence. Now, in contrast to that, I could dig up, what, a few hundred videos of Republicans calling for armed violence. You are following the bible quite well in pointing out a speck in Sharpton's eye while overlooking all the logs in eyes of the radical right. You might try to have more respect for yourself.

When I saw the thread title I was expecting to see this video: :D

I remember that episode. SNL kept getting hate mail because people saw Morris as a token black. They didn't really understand that Morris was well aware of that and willingly made fun of it. So, finally Chase and Morris got together and came up with that song. Chase said that the hate mail stopped after that. Morris' off-key performance of that song was also rather funny because he was actually a really good tenor singer.
