Coke creates advert that causes conservatives to go nuts

I routinely try to tell myself that my country isn't actually getting stupider, and that my perception that it is getting stupider is due to a combination of confirmation bias, sensationalist media, and my own progressively increasing curmudgeonliness that comes with getting older.

But after this, I'm officially throwing my hands up and saying **** it. Not only are we becoming a nation of unapologetic idiots, but we're doing so at an absolutely terrifying rate.
I'll hoist a refreshing, effervescent glass of the Coca-Cola company's rancid, multicultural, scrotal sweat of Satan to that!

But diet, please. I'm trying to watch my weight.

When I saw this commercial, my first thought was, "Why can't this be our national anthem, instead of that ridiculous, difficult-to-sing English drinking song?" My second thought was, "Some people are going to be upset by this." It made me wonder if the marketing people at Coke were aware of this possibility, if they cared, or if they were being deliberately provocative.

God bless America? Just as bad as that drinking song.

I think it's the fact that, with modern technology, the idiots have a voice, and we tend to hear the idiotic voices the most clearly as we remark, "Did that idiot really just say that?"

hummm, MSMBC employee tweets that the righties will be pissed off at a ad celebrating diversity (a Cheerios ad)
Republicans yell, MSNBC apologies and fires employee.
Coke shows ad celebrating diversity.
Righties get pissed off.

So why was the MSNBC employee fired? All he got wrong was which ad it would be.

Drink it up conservatives. These are your people. This is your legacy.
You and Beck are both not even wrong.

This has nothing to do with conservatism.

In fact the closest you came to a cogent point was in illustrating that art does not come from language, but then you alluded it comes from culture, that is also not even wrong. It IS culture.

You took the words right out of my mouth. What is this imaginary "Classical Culture"? Which particular timeslice of the evolving American Dream does it comprise?

It usually involves some version of the USA in the early 50's right after we whipped the world and men worked, women stayed home, all families had 2 1/2 kids, lived in the suburbs and drove Chevys.

Maybe we're seeing the advance results of home schooling, imagine a whole generation that has never had to face a fact that was adverse to their belief.

As long as you were white.

Even English you can do that song incorrectly. I used to know a person who absolutely hated Ray Charles' cut of the song, what he called the "******ized" version. He also ranted that he couldn't enjoy the sounds of Christmas time anymore because of all the "******ized" versions of Christmas carols that were "everywhere", even when sung by white people. I think he was referring to the improvised vocal inflection added to songs by many modern singers; it really grated on him.

Do not use alternate spelling to get around the auto-censor.

A couple of my online socks are outraged in the comments section of the local paper. Other ones are supportive of Coke. I just need to keep them straight! :)

Dear Travis,

I disagree. I think that having the vast experience of a multitude of disparate cultures operating under the Hamilton system made it much more effective.

To the degree these disparate cultures are bringing scientific and artistic principles, sure. To the degree they're bringing different costumes and foods, not so much.

1) Cultures always change.
2) American culture is not defined by the language. An America where everyone speaks French would still be America.
3) Nothing in the commercial indicates the individuals singing are chauvinistic and unassimilable aliens.

(1) Not all change is good, and we can sometimes choose between which changes we would like to have and which we wouldn't.
(2) Language is the primary determinant of statehood. A French America would be thinking differently than an English one.
(3) Why would the commercial producers include anything but Kumbaya?

What I find hilarious is that, based on his body of work, Travis spends faaar more time tracking conservative opinion than I do.

I think I waste more time per day reading Travis threads, than I do reading conservative opinion.

Everything I know about conservatives

I learned from Travis threads.

Not a fan of pizza, lo mein, pierogies, tacos, shepherd's pie, Beef Wellington, spaghetti, chicken biryani, gelato, sushi, Swedish meatballs, or paella, are you? I won't even mention any different beverages.

I know ignorance is bliss, but it seems knowing how groups of people who I identify think would be very informative.

First off watch the advertisement and see if you can spot the element that has the conservatives in America apoplectic with seizure inducing rage.

I got to give it to Coke: this is the second ad I see from them with this kind of multicultural-embracing bend.
