Coke creates advert that causes conservatives to go nuts

I like this bit from breitbart:

Executives at Coca Cola thought it was a good idea to run a 60 second Super Bowl ad featuring children singing “America the Beautiful” - a deeply Christian patriotic anthem whose theme is unity - in several foreign languages. The ad also prominently features a gay couple.

When did this song become a deeply Christian anthem?

Well, it does mention God a couple of times, down in the third-string verses that you sing when you have extra time to kill.

When did this song become a deeply Christian anthem?

The "god" line was in there, in English. Which I found a little surprising since it was supposed to be celebrating such diversity.

I didn't think much about the political implications. My problem was that the meter of the different languages didn't fit the meter of the song.

The United States of America is a Christian nation, from sea to God-fearing sea. Any song celebrating it is, therefore, deeply Christian.

Goddammitt! Didn't you know people fought and died so that you would never have to speak Foreign Languages!!!!?????

'Hey kids! Did you know that America is a melting pot, made up of... what? Oh, sorry. I meant, America is a strictly English speaking, Christian nation made up of homogeneous peoples'. Yeah, that is America. This sort of dog-whistle racist and xenophobic b.s. is why so many people in my small social sphere are vexed as to how conservatives still attract voters/viewers/listeners. But, hey, who am I? I live in a city that is widely regarded as one of the most diverse in the country (Long Beach, CA) and I for one love being able to walk down the street and hear 3 or 4 languages being spoken. Not a Coke fan, but goddamn can this just be a non-issue in the near future? Please?

And so that we wouldn't even have to hear them (or see gay people) on TV. I know my grandfather (served in the Navy) would never have approved of his father (a stinky immigrant) speaking Italian on TV. It would have been a direct assault on his Catholicism and his Patriotism.

By the way, this is the funniest, and most ironic:

No more Coca-Cola for me. As if doing business with the nazis during world war two wasn’t bad enough, Coke is now one of those multi-national corporations that is a huge supporter of illegal immigration and multiculturalism.

The Nazi thing was forgiveable, but the multicultural thing is inexcusable.

I am especially fond of the Youtube comments that refer to this as an offensive version of the National Anthem.

It's interesting that so many people object to singing America the Beautiful in languages other than English, yet no one seems to care that it's being used to flog soda pop.

I just think it's awesome that people singing a song in something other than English is subverting the government and/or Constitution. Which part, I wonder?

I also love how merely speaking Spanish supports illegal immigration.

Screw this - I'm going to teach myself Spanish, and use it a lot. Just to piss my fellow white people off.

Thanks a lot. Now that you've made me think about it, I'm offended by the commercial. I'll be lucky if I sleep a single wink tonight!

Here's my evil plot:

1) Reply to the most negative comments telling them that America the Beautiful was written by a feminist lesbian to profess her love for an inclusive America.

2) Wait for them to try and ban the song due to it's un-godly origins.

3) Read the even stupider comments that sprout up on the internet.

4) ?????

5) Profit.

Okay, forget Twitter, and that idiot Allen West or the Breitbart clowns...

Um...if people who don't know a word of English, are singing the US anthem...isn't that *good* for the US?

It's not the anthem of the US.

The only decent rendition of that song ever was when Fozzie Bear sang it in "The Muppet Movie".

What I find hilarious is that, based on his body of work, Travis spends faaar more time tracking conservative opinion than I do.

I think I waste more time per day reading Travis threads, than I do reading conservative opinion.
