Time for some TRAFFIC!

Doesn't really matter if he planned it, knew about it, or just tried to do damage control after.

His political career is over.
Christie a republican 2016 potus candidate? As a voting conservative I hope so too.

Not sure why you want that; he against Hil should ensure her landslide victory.

You're right. The Republicans stand a much better chance with... who, exactly is left to run for president on that side? Donald Trump? Ted Nugent? ... Rick Perry? (Nah, I'm kidding. That one's too ridiculous)

Christie was already first on that list of losers.

February made me shiver
with every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep,
I couldn't take one more step...

Egggcellent story here by a NJ insider journalist who was in tight with CC and many of the top players (and worked for Wildstein.)

Really, really worth the read.

WELL, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY

Brian Murphy – February 2, 2014, 8:28 AM EST4160

Over Chinese food at the fabulous Lao Sze Chuan in Milford, Ct. I had the pleasure of reading Chris Christie’s 700-word-long attack on David Wildstein and the New York Times. This came moments after I opened a fortune cookie that advised me to “Enjoy yourself while you can.” (!)

I am trying to summon the requisite mood to seriously ponder the implications of the email that Governor Christie apparently sent to supporters/donors/ Politico/Beltway Republicans (as if there’s any… never mind). But I can’t. I just can’t.

It is hard for me to believe that the governor of an American state could author such a piece of risible juvenilia, except it is even harder for me to believe a paid communications professional could have been behind this. The “argument” Christie (or possibly one very very close longtime advisor) is making here is that David Wildstein is a bad guy.

Why?

That David Wildstein. Such a tumultuous person.

VP Biden gives lessons on how to scare off intruders by blasting your shotgun into the air. Gov Christie gives lessons on how to scare off investigators by blasting your shotgun into your own foot...

ouch!

It's a fascinating and truly bizarre offensive.

He goes on to smear upside and back Wildstein, going back to (really Governor?) high school social studies class (yes, really) - and basically says Everyone knows what a scumbucket and deceptive man David is -- been that way for a long time

--that's why I hired him and placed him in a top position at the Port Authority.

And to prove my claim that Wildstein is lying about me and is a nogoodfornothing skunk, please refer to the article I have herein linked which describes David as "my eyes and ears inside the Port Authority."

I agree. This offensive against Wildstein seems kind of desperate... like going after the guy over stuff he did in high school... really?!!

And yes, if Wildstein was such a terrible guy, then why the hell did Christie have him in his inner circle in the first place?

If Christie and his people think this email is going to have the desired effect of discrediting Wildstein, they've got another thing coming.

ETA: If anything, this email will only play into the "Christie is a bully" narrative.

The DNC is releasing this Superbowl / Christie ad today.

ouch ouch OUCH!

Damn, and this is just the political aspect. Once the courts get involved (and I would be amazed at this point if they don't), it'll be an even bigger mess for Christie.

I wonder how long until the GOP starts to publicly distance themselves from him? You know that conversation is being had behind the scenes.

Seems as if some GOP strategists are already writing off Christie's presidential hopes...

Experts: Chris Christie dead in water
... Christie’s political team went on the offensive yesterday, sending an email to donors, and columnists and pundits who might be in a position to defend the governor, bashing Wildstein and calling the report about the letter “sloppy reporting,” noting Wildstein did not present any proof to back up his claims.

But the political chaos seems to be too much for Christie’s presidential hopes. Even Republican pundits said his bid for the Oval Office is hanging by a thread.

“Chris Christie could get a second chance, but it could take a while,” said Republican strategist Ron Bonjean, who is based in Washington, D.C.

National GOP strategist Ford O’Connell said Christie is “sinking faster than the Titanic.”

“The cards are stacked against him,” O’Connell said, adding that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will benefit from Christie’s political swan dive.

Whalen said a much more familiar candidate could emerge in the mix for 2016 — former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney.

“This might make viable a third run for Mitt,” he said. “You’ve got to wonder if the establishment will rally around him once again through the process of elimination.”

Right. His defense is "Hey, all of these people I put into high positions in my administration were crooks! And liars! You can't believe a word they say!" Which basically proclaims to the world that he's not capable of finding ethical and qualified candidates for pretty much any position around him. This scandal has literally touched his entire administration. There's no one left who isn't tainted. And this is supposed to show that he's qualified to be president? Nope. This barely shows he shouldn't be impeached. A defense that relies on the belief that his entire crew ran a rogue operation right under his nose is doomed to epic failure.

I was just saying this today. Christie's swan dive has curiously coincided with Mitt and Ann opining about how sad they are that the country didn't get to enjoy the Mittness last time around. They smell the blood in the water and are dangling some hooks, to mix some metaphors.

Doesn't matter what I want, that's what's happened!

I was actually hoping he was the guy he looked like at one point; like a Republican who would not be a disaster if elected. He had me fooled.

He never looked like like a Republican; that's why you liked him. :):D

From Brian Murphy piece above:

There is a legal process going on that may result in indictments and a political process in motion that may well lead to an impeachment. The risk premium on a Christie candidacy for president just went through the roof. This has been a very very bad week for the governor.

It may be true that David Wildstein “will do and say anything to save David Wildstein.” But at this point the same can be said of Chris Christie.

It was probably a good idea for the governor to hire that white-collar criminal defense lawyer from Manhattan.

His presidential prospects may be the least of his worries right now.

They haven't even dropped the biggest bombshell about Wildstein yet--he's a close friend of embattled New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

How can you trust a guy like that?

Calling it a 'swan dive' is an insult to both swans and dives. Call it what it is, a belly flop, the most unglamorous fashion to publicly enter water, ever.

Why would she do that? Is there some kind of conflict of interest if she testifies about where she works?
