ODS Example #563214856

Besides the examples given already, Woodrow Wilson continued to live in DC from 1921 until his death in 1924. (he wanted to use the Library of Congress as a resource for a new book, but never wrote it). And with Mrs. Clinton as Secretary of State I suspect Bill was in town quite a bit. I can't think of any others who stuck much around post-presidency.

Who would want to? After 4 or 8 years of living in that fishbowl most ex-prez's seem to go hide under the bed for a couple years.

Not in Wingnut America though. There it's just another evil plot by Obama to retain the reigns of power beyond the end of his presidency.

To be fair, there were wingnuts insisting President Bush would extent his presidency beyond the end of his second term.

I entertained the thought that he might cancel the 2004 election.

I think the reason he didn't was that he couldn't get away with it, frankly. I don't sense wisdom as much as fear. If it was Cheney, we might have seen the attempt.

Are you a wingnut if you believe the president will want to preserve what he has done. Especially if you are Rush whos main interest in keeping his listeners with controversial statements. Maybe

Are you a wingnut if you thought President Bush was going to cancel elections?

As did I.

My father has never been particularly athletic, did not serve in the military, and has no experience with weapons. I asked him back in 2004 what he would do if Bush cancelled the election and he answered, "Well, I guess I'd have to buy a gun." Obviously none of that came to pass. Looking back, I'm sure the thought never occurred to W.

Of course, most thoughts never occurred to W.

If you thought he WAS going to cancel elections? Yeah.

If you thought that the folks pulling the strings wanted to, and would have done it if they thought they could, to the point where they actually thought about ways to do it? Not so much.

(to be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if anyone would try to cancel elections if they thought they could do it; most just never entertain the idea since there's obviously no way to do it)

BDS was every bit as common on the Left as ODS is on the right. Cue the "But Bush really was evil!" responses.
:p

Yay, it's the old doctrine of false equivalence again! Yeee Haaa! Let's compare a near war criminal with an ineffective moderate and claim they are equal, and see if we can get away with it! YEeeeee Haaaa.

Geeze, get real.

Even if a president wanted to "cancel" an election, could he?

I don't think he could. (In America that is. In some other countries it could happen and has happened.)

Why? I don't think the military or congress or the Supreme Court would go along with it. (The military only have to follow lawful orders. They don't have to follow an unlawful one.) It would be impeachable. People in his own party would rebel, because we hold democracy and the Constitution to be higher and more sacred than partisan differences.

Even during the Civil War we had an election, right on schedule.

Out of curiosity, how many thousands of Americans died in terror attacks or invading other countries during Obama's administration?
