Encountered my first "Truther" today

If I recall, Chris Mohr asked Tri if he could get in touch with the Red Knights to see if they would collect paint samples from their memorial. Apparently they declined and Tri never did spend much time in the 911 forum after that.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid ?

I lurk a bit from time to time. Don't really participate in these old worn out threads anymore, but this thread certainly proves that the so-called skeptics couldn't wait to jump on Tri's bandwagon, and a stupid twoof such as myself saw the lies and fabrications for what they were.

Sometimes people's attitude depends on what they *want to believe or disbelieve; people in general tend to be much more skeptical of something they don't want to be true than something they feel an affinity towards, so they can challenge it because they don't want to believe it, rather than because they're wiser than others.

That's a step in the right direction, Red. Now, apply the same critical thinking skills to Richard Gage. See if you can't spot his lies and fabrications. They'll be easier to find than Tri's were.

I use the same bs meter whether it was exposing Tri's lies or any other lies.
 
Well you guys this is disturbing. I was completely fooled. Red Ibis was right and we were wrong. And all of us, no matter what side we're on, can learn from the fact that we tend to be less skeptical of our allies than of our opponents. Human nature, tribalism, all that. Oh well. Live and learn I guess.

As a relative n00b, I have a distinct (not objective) perspective on that thread.

Yes, tribalism. Three related phenomena, I think: (1) We tend to default to credulity in general (social life would be pretty grim if we routinely demanded evidence for everything anybody says); (2) As you say, we tend to be less skeptical of our allies; (3) Over-the-top assertions about members of other tribes have a special appeal: "I can't believe they behaved that badly - tell me more!"

I watched a head-to-toes troll play a discussion board for years. There were suspicions from the first, but as here, membership rules made it hard even to voice them (note how an admin weighed in at #127 here), and he played some people brilliantly in order to garner support.

In this thread back in 2009, RedIbis messed up IMO by saying that the story had been "exposed as a fabrication"; I think the thread got measurably worse after that. Overall, RedIbis and others made good points, not only in retrospect but at the time. I'm really struck by the notion that someone would be held without bail for standing behind a car. Some folks acknowledged the legitimacy of skepticism, and some did not. Oops.

If our opponent, as you call him, is known for being a habitual liar, what makes you think we could learn anything from him?

We were not wrong on anything 911, and if we were we should correct it. What is wrong here?

Wrong? About what? The RedIbis has no claims on 911. What did he get right?
"RedIbis, on the other hand, exists to me only in quoted form"... He is still stuck on Gravy, unable to debunk the debunker.

How can you be right about anything when you don't take a stand? He can't figure out Gage is a liar, or can he? Fabrications and lies? lol

What lies and fabrications? Oh, was he not who he said he was? And how does that make seeing the idiotic claims of 911 truth for they are, lies and fabrications?

Yes, you did. There is discussion elsewhere on the forum that deals with the gist of the issue. Suffice to say, yes, RedIbis did manage to successfully call BS on one thing. His BS detector still needs some work, though, if it's not picking up anything from Gage and his gaggle of "architects" and "engineers".

The thread story remains a story; so? If tri was not a fire fighter, he sure wanted to be.
Was tri's story fake? who cares, there are enough real 911 nuts to discuss without adding fiction to the mix.

How can we get something wrong, when we have no real evidence to discuss? If the story was made up, following up on it found Gregory Louis Hoover is a 911 nut. I better see if I was really a pilot, it could be a story; i wanted to be a pilot, and my dad said I piled it deep.
