It seems that the "Honorable" Rand Paul cannot seem to think for himself. He has been caught red-handed lifting the work of others and passing it off as his own. He now out to expect that everything he has published in recent years will be computer cross-checked for other examples of unattributed borrowing.

Rand's response is to claim victim-hood. Instead of owning up to it, he has blamed haters (cough Rachel Maddow cough) and made veiled remarks about shooting people.

The Rand Rule: When caught in a deception, blame the person who caught you.

Worse, Rand doesn't even seem to know what plagiarism is. His response is that of course he didn't write the plot line of Gattica. He doesn't seem to realize that what he lifted was the property of Wikepedia, not the moviemakers.

For some reason, I'm reminded of the line in "Spinal Tap" when told the album cover was sexist, Nigel replied, "What's wrong with being sexy"? He's that kind of clueless.

(Note that I cited the source. Lesson for you, Rand.)

But he's kind of libertarian. Aren't libertarians all about property rights!? Or are they just about their own personal property rights, and not that of others....

He has resorted to lamenting that dueling isn't legal, as if his honor is so besmirched by the accusation as to warrant pistols at 20 paces.

Go teach your grandmother to suck eggs! I've been handling guns like this, flintlock and caplock, since before you were born.

First I am not a Rand Paul fan but.
Did he do anything other than take a few lines to describe the plot of Gattaca in a fairly long speech?

Find me a politician who does not do this from time to time. They are constantly giving speeches. There was a huff over President Obama being accused of plagiarism by Clinton during the primary race, recently there was another one about President Obama's Syria speech. I think Vice President Biden was a champion at this. I have no doubt there are lots of examples from President Bush and most politicians.

He stole a lot more than just a few lines from the Wiki page on Gattica..

A lot more.

Tu quoque, anyone?

It isn't that hard to attribute a quote. Or, considering the subject matter in question, to use your own words.

He could even have just said "Whoops, my bad". Instead he chose to attack everyone who caught him at it.

Not promising behavior in a potential presidential candidate. We've been through this before. Less than forty years ago.

Don't see how he can come out of this without looking like a putz.

Unless he doubles down, of course.

He is upset that killing your critics is no longer allowed. A man out of time, place, and his own mind.

I am sure more examples of plagiarism beyond this speech and his book will come out.

I think his ideas are too far out of the mainstream to ever be a real candidate.Just like his dad.

Ya, but aren't Rand, his dad, and all the other Tea Partiers constantly telling us how they aren't just like all the other politicians? That they are just down home, regular, honest folks?

Shouldn't the hold themselves to higher standards than "well, they did it first!"
