Presidential Primaries 2016

Ventura/Stern 2016?

Instrumental to a Jesse Ventura 2016 bid: Howard Stern for VP

“It all comes down to whether Howard will do it, and I need Howard,” said Ventura, adding that Stern’s access to satellite radio — and millions of listeners — will not only help out fundraising but free Ventura from the Federal Communications Commission.

“I can use his radio station right up to the day of the election to win this thing without spending any money,” Ventura said.

Ventura said he’s in touch with Stern and “we gotta start soon.”

“We gotta go quick. I’ve gotta get ballot access in all 50 states with a grass-roots movement.”

“If he goes out to his listeners and says, ‘Give me $10 apiece,’” fundraising won’t be an issue, Ventura said.

ETA:
His platform appears to be: elect me because I'm not a Republican or a Democrat.
Ventura said his greatest appeal to voters comes down to this: “I will offer the people of the United States of America the first opportunity since George Washington to elect a president that does not belong to a political party. And, in light of what’s going on right now with the government shutdown with these two bozo parties, I’ll win on that alone. Because the people will be so ticked off, Jesse Ventura will be your president.”

We know that she was a mentionable only because the pundit class is always trying to create a horse race narrative to keep themselves fed, but we have confirmation today that E. Warren will not play lady challenger to H. Clinton. Let's strike! Not to worry though, we still have 3 ladies on the Dem list.

The tweet from campaign spox: @laceyjrose: "As Senator Warren has said many times, she is not running for president."

Headlines

We got a long way to go. So there could be a lot of mud thrown around by 2016.

The tweet from campaign spox: @laceyjrose: "As Senator Warren has said many times, she is not running for president."

Depends what the meaning of "is" is.

She is not running right now. Doesn't rule out that she might run in the future.

It's incredibly unlikely and frankly kind of stupid, but here's an article speculating that G. Locke, former Washington governor and ambassador to China will run as a Democrat.
http://mynorthwest.com/194/2406190/Gary-Locke-for-president

Yeah it does seem kind of stupid. They cite "rumors" that Hillary won't run, but give no basis for those rumors. Good grief. When did rumors become a sufficient basis for an article like this?

Is that his wife in the photo? She's hot. :)

Nationally, I don't think he has much name-recognition.

Let me quote the 2nd paragraph:

"This is truly, truly trending in the Democrat world - that Hillary won't run. In which case, Gary Locke would not be just a vice presidential possibility," says 770 KTTH host Michael Medved.

It's Michael Medved. You might as well have heard it from the family dog. If this were "truly trending" in the "Democrat world," I think we would have heard it from someone other than that asshat.

Murdering Americans in Benghazi

Here is the federal murder statute. Please enlighten us as to which Democrats committed this crime in Benghazi.

18 USC 1111(a) said:
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. Every murder perpetrated by poison, lying in wait, or any other kind of willful, deliberate, malicious, and premeditated killing; or committed in the perpetration of, or attempt to perpetrate, any arson, escape, murder, kidnapping, treason, espionage, sabotage, aggravated sexual abuse or sexual abuse, child abuse, burglary, or robbery; or perpetrated as part of a pattern or practice of assault or torture against a child or children; or perpetrated from a premeditated design unlawfully and maliciously to effect the death of any human being other than him who is killed, is murder in the first degree.
Any other murder is murder in the second degree.

Warren is far enough left that I wouldn't be surprised if she is asked to take up The Green Party ticket by the time the election comes around. Weirder things have happened, and she actually fits with them better than the Dems from what I've seen. She's too far left to end up with the Democrats' nomination.

But yeah, for now... she's not running.

The Green Party? Why would she even bother? It certainly wouldn't help her in a Senate re-election race.

True enough.

It wouldn't be any less useful than running in the Democrats' presidential primary though, I suspect. There's no way in hell she'd win it. The Greens are actually gaining ground (slightly, and only due to Obama being slightly to the right of Eisenhower), but they certainly aren't to where they have any sort of a chance yet, I'll admit. They need to secure more local wins before they can become an actual political force... something no "3rd" party has done in a very long time.

Anyway, I suppose the only reason I mentioned it was that she actually sort of fits there in the current spectrum... practicality is a different matter. That, and I sort of am wondering who the Greens will come up with in 2016. It'll probably be someone I've never heard of, unless Stein tries again.

We could have the first Native American president!

Unless the Green Party candidate has a lot of money and is willing to spend it, it won't matter. Even then, at best they might affect the outcome, but they certainly aren't going to win.

And the push to "out conservative" the other GOP hopefuls has begun, as they all jump on the "no compromise on the budget" bandwagon. This looks to be the beginning of a repeat clown show that was the 2012 Republican primary season...

GOP Presidential Hopefuls Unite Against Budget Deal
While a substantial majority of House Republicans rallied Thursday evening to help pass the bipartisan budget deal negotiated by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, many of Ryan’s potential rivals for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination came down hard on the deal.

This highlights an important fault line that seems to be developing among Republicans in the early run-up to the next presidential campaign. ...

Good grief, will these idiots ever learn?

RCP is already tracking the polls.
Democratic Nomination
Republican Nomination

On the Democratic side there is a clear frontrunner. 66% favor Clinton, 11% Biden, 7% Warren, 3% Cuomo. O'Malley and Schweitzer (I name I don't even recognize) are also on the list, but get %1 or less. If you Google Schweitzer, it isn't much help either. The top result is some German theologian. Who is Schweitzer and why is he or she even on the list? Is "D. Patrick" Dan Patrick, the sportscaster? I still can't believe that anyone doesn't think Hillary will be the nominee. The case for any the possible rivals on the list seems far-fetched, even for Biden or Warren (who you crossed out already anyway). Biden didn't get much support last time he ran, and although being the Vice president might give him a small boost, I don't think it's enough. Besides, he's still Joe Biden, famous for foot-in-mouth disease. Cuomo seems like, if he does run and Warren doesn't, the people who don't support Hillary might coalesce around him because there has to be some alternative to Hillary and Joe Biden. But I don't think that gets him the nomination this time. He could raise his name recognition by running though, and maybe in the future once Hillary is out of the picture that would pay off.

On the Republican side there's a lot more parity. I've at least heard of everyone on the list and 6 of them have double-digit support: Christie, Paul, Cruz, Ryan, Bush and Rubio. Walker and Jindal round out the list and each have over 4% support. I think almost anyone on that list has a better chance of getting the Republican nomination than anyone not named Hillary has on the other side.

Brian Schweitzer. Former Governor of Montana.

You read that right. Montana.

Is "D. Patrick" Dan Patrick, the sportscaster?

Deval Patrick. Current Governor of Massachusetts.
