So why should I not be ticked off with the GOP right now?

I am pissed off. If they at least had an alternative to the ACA I might have a bit of sympathy for their position. As they have no alternative plan and shutting down the government will not stop the ACA I can only assume they are idiots. They have backed themselves into a corner, they know they can not win, yet they insist on fighting no matter how much damage it does to the nation and themselves. Idiots and fools.

Tomorrow I will be able to get health insurance that covers my pre-existing condition no matter what the GOP does.

They are trying to shutdown the government so they can try and get rid of a program that will get me health insurance for the first time in a decade.

So why should I not be beyond angry with them?

Anyone want to talk me off the ledge here about why I shouldn't care they are trying to stop me from getting health insurance?

Anyone?
Cool with me. Besides, we all know ******** (the republickers) will be ******** - it's a genetics/eugenics thing.

They did have a plan - pretty much the same as the Obama one - their problem is it has a liberal (mostly) black guy's fingerprints/cooties all over it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Right for _________?

a. The nation
b. their party
c. their individual reelection prospects

That's the problem I have, I'm pretty sure the correct answer is not "a".

Nor can it be b. Which does not trouble me at all.:):D:D:D:)

I don't see it really being about the ACA per se. It's about whether they can effectively exert control despite lacking the actual votes to prevail. It's always going to be something. If these terrorist tactics succeed now, they'll just keep coming back. Total ban on abortion and contraceptives. Return of Jim Crow laws. Mandatory prayer in schools. Open carry for all... you name it.

It would permanently change the fundamental nature of the way Congress functions.

Agreed.

While I'm probably being too optimistic I hope we're seeing a way towards going beyond 2 parties. (into multiple, viable parties in case that gets misread as wanting only one party).

I think there's a bigger problem for the Republicans long-term. At some point the situations are going to be reversed. Do the Republicans want to give the Democrats this very same weapon of holding the debt ceiling hostage to get their agenda passed? If the Republicans stop doing it now, they can say the previous debt ceiling debacles were an anomaly. If they go after ACA with this, the Dems will have no qualms about ever doing anything similar in the future. The Republicans actually have the opportunity of stuffing this particular genie back in the bottle but Cruz and company seem intent on breaking the bottle.

Force Obama to resign while they are at it, make Reagan a saint.

This is so unbelievably reckless.

As a recovering Republican, I want to note that I've seen the conduct of my party over the past fifteen years or so, and as a direct result of that, I will NOT be voting Republican until my party shakes loose the nuts and stops this political terrorism they seem to be so hell bent about. Well, that and about six or twelve other issues I have with the current lot.

Yeah, it would be a shame if a Democrat like Obama had ever done that.

The difference is that the vote on the debt ceiling was not held hostage to another issue.

It's always been when we're in power we vote for it, when we're not we vote against it, but it still passes without trying to re-write other already passed legislation.

political terrorism

There is terrorism, and there is not terrorism. And a government shutdown is not terrorism. It's an insult to victims of actual terrorism to try to exploit that genuine horror for merely rhetorical effect.

But I want to thank you for doing so anyways, because that makes it clear that you don't actually have anything of value to say on the subject.

Since I'm very much in favor of stopping the actual growth of the debt, that doesn't trouble me at all. This gives an advantage to whichever party can pass their agenda without needing to increase the debt.

I think a lot of the Republicans are being held hostage to the rhetoric that got them elected. Remember, the Tea Party was dead set against RINO's and had enough power to elect "their" candidates. All the talking tough is now coming home to roost.

There's also the current poo storm around Obamacare. It's being billed as the worst thing ever on so many fronts that some of the Repubs are stuck fighting this imaginary evil - the one created with hyperbole in the Right-Wing-o-sphere.

I didn't say terrorism. I said political terrorism. Terrorism is defined as using terror inciting tactics to further political, religious, or ideological goals. The Republican party is threatening the economy and the livelihood of people with a government shutdown. While this might not rise to the level of "terror", it's close enough to where people know what I mean when I said political terrorism. They are pushing an ideological goal and they know they're going to hurt people doing it. And they're going ahead with it anyway. Hence, my naming it political terrorism.

We can agree to disagree, but this is how I see it. Would you like to discuss anything else I mentioned in that post, or was your level of concern limited entirely to something you felt you could rip on me for?

Fake outrage is fake. Substitute "holding the country hostage" for "terrorism".

Dysfunctional turds in a dysfunctional system. How utterly pathetic. And it is playing all over our news tonight.
