Presidential Primaries 2016

hgc, I see you still got Clinton down for election. I thought she made it clear that she wasn't running?

What Puppycow said. You can't come in here with that kind of statement and not provide a link, surely?

Is that satisfactory? And I'm pretty sure the woman has said, "speeches, beaches" at least a billion times. I thought it was understood that she was growing weary of the political fight night and putting up her gloves for good. I could be wrong, but at least that's how several of her statements and actions sound. I'm betting most of the hubbub about the situation is coming from constant reporting on the subject. Am I wrong for assuming that a 69 year Hilary Clinton doesn't want to run? Maybe she wants to, I don't know, enjoy her life, her grandkids, and maybe even have some hot swinger sex without all the political scandals this time. As I said, I'm no mind reader, but I'm also not of the opinion that Hilary will run. The woman is old and tired. Unless I receive evidence that says otherwise, I'm not budgeting much in the Hilary direction.

It could also be read as talking time off to recharge batteries to start running for president. She has left the door open. She has never categorically stated "I'm not running for president.". Will she? I think there's a good chance. She's in pretty good health and a year or two away from the fray may be what she needs to get ready.

I think she would like to be President just as much as she wanted it in 2008. As for her age, she'll probably ask herself, "will I have the health and energy to do the job proper right up to January 20, 2025?" And if she thinks not, then perhaps she won't do it.

Yes, she's old, by some standards, but tired? Not that I've noticed. By the way, she has no grandkids yet. Do you know something about Chelsea's family planning?

Me and Chelsea aren't saying anything just yet.

All jokes aside, Hilary would be one of the oldest presidential candidates in US history second only to Ronald Reagan. If she does run for office, she has to have a considerably younger and but still experienced running mate. Susan Rice would've been an excellent choice, but that Benghazi situation would just be toxic to a Hilary presidential campaign.

If you think that anything in that article means that "she made it clear that she wasn't running" I believe that you are mistaken. (Although I notice that the URL itself seems to imply that. Here's what the article says:
Clinton, 65, who long ago told President Barack Obama that she plans to resign at the end of his first term, says she isn't thinking about her future in public life currently.

'I just want to sleep and exercise and travel for fun. And relax. It sounds so ordinary, but I haven’t done it for 20 years. I would like to see whether I can get untired. I work out and stuff, but I don’t do it enough and I don’t do it hard enough because I can’t expend that much energy on it,' she told The New York Times from aboard her personal 757 jet.

She plans to rest and relax for a year, but the presidential question remains.

Politico revealed a poll from Public Policy Polling just two days after the election that showed 58 percent of Democrats in Iowa favored Clinton for the presidency in 2016.

Is she too old? Well, she's 5 years younger than Joe Biden. If elected, she would be the second-oldest president at the time of her inauguration. And she would be younger than Bob Dole or John McCain when they were nominated. So I don't think her age is necessarily a dealbreaker.

But few potential candidates have been considered as much of a frontrunner this early in the game as Hillary. I think the (historic) opportunity would be just too tempting for her. She has a chance to make history, and it looks, according to the polls, almost like it's her's for the asking.

Hills running? After she made a jackass out of herself at the benghazi hearings?

I saw the first GOP ad on that, and she looked like an idiot.

She'll get torn apart in the primaries.

What difference does it make?

I love this Benghazi angle. Let's see how that works out for you.

Working out pretty well already. The administration screwed the pooch, hills gave the opposition an incredible video bite, Kerry forgave everybody and no one's been caught.

What difference does it make?

In my personal opinion, I think there are so many other women who could potentially run that the "historic" opportunities may happen regardless if Hilary decides to run or not. For one, my hunch is that conservatives are becoming increasingly aware that a xenophobic party of old white men is losing much steam with the public. I could see them trying to save face and run a potential female candidate. Condoleezza looks to be a good candidate, but Condi, from my knowledge of her, seems to be an extreme push over. She held little weight in the Bush presidency and cabinet. She seems not to be a very respected member of the conservative establishment. Maybe a weak president is what the republicans would want??? At any rate, we'll see with Hilary, I'm on the fence. I think she'll run if another woman in blue doesn't step up to the plate. It seems that all the other women who could run will too be in their late 60s.

Although Condi is on hgc's list I see, I'm almost 100% certain she won't run.

Saying that there are "many other women who could potentially run" is fine, but when you have to name a specific person, the list of credible potential candidates who have enough name recognition and are likely to actually run gets quite short.

No one's been caught? Doing what?

No, H. Clinton won't run because she wants a woman to be president, she'll run (if she runs) because she herself wants to be president.

Seems to me, considering women statistically enjoy longer lifespans than men, Ms. Clinton's age is less a factor than it might initially seem.
