Is there a Travis scale which allows one to integrate nation size, perceived uselessness of spending, amount of money and distance down the road so one can determine if a project is permissible?

I think it's the process and the, frankly laughable, attempts by FIFA to convince the world that their process is 'clean' that is being derided.

The world know it isn't.

The fact that football accepts and lauds cheating at every level probably means it's far more likely that the rest of the football world will cheat their way through.

Hell no, FIFA is mass of corruption and dodgy dealing, if you had bothered to do a shred of research you would know about the endless scandals that have engulfed it over the last couple of decades. Bluntly the only place more unsuitable to stage the World Cup that Qatar is probably Antarctica.

Yeah this is the thing they promise for every World Cup and it never seems to materialize. The 2014 WC in Brazil has provoked mass demonstrations over the cost and the failure to keep promises about infrastructure.

I do know about them, that's why I questioned Lionking's singling out of Qatar as the country that bought the World Cup. I thought they all did.

Nation size/expenditure * usefulness to public * days of year project is accessible

So we have a nation of 250,000 citizens (with about a million expats) building eleven stadiums with associated infrastructure for $200 billion. Stadiums likely to never get used again once the World Cup is gone.

The United States bid for the same World Cup and would have only used existing stadiums to host it.
