I know, but wholesalers can return the books. The same thing happened when Taylor Armstrong brought her book out. The wholesalers bought up tons of the books and propelled her up the charts. Then no one actually bought the book from the wholesalers and the price dropped and dropped.

The week it came out it made the best sellers rank because of the wholesalers. They anticipated massive sales because she was affiliated with a Reality Show. Now look at the price. (it dropped within a month) LOL

Take a look and take a look at her ranking now. All those numbers mean is that wholesalers bought bulk quantities of the book. That's why you'll see these books massively discounted after a few weeks.

The book hasn't even come out yet, Paula Deen hasn't made a dime on the sales. Her publisher may have paid her in advance. But these sales rankings are not reflective of true sales.

I must confess to amazement that Paula Deen wrote a book at all. I imagine her, struggling to furrow her brow against the botox, staring in bewildernment at the empty page. Somehow she needs to get the sounds of words onto the paper. But how? Sound, but visual? She grunts from the effort of thought. Finally, inspiration strikes! and she pushes her buttery paw against the paper. Success! Triumph! The grease stain soaks the paper, turning it yellowly translucent. She has overcome authorship and joined the ranks of the immortals! Now, where's that boy with her mint julep?

You didn't really think it was a huge Amazon warehouse with all the books in stock did you?

When the wholesalers preorder the book they can also adjust the price by passing on their bulk savings to the customer.

Piscivore wasn't arguing with you, he simply asked a question:

"Why would wholesalers be buying stock from a retailer?"

ETA: I don't know many people outside the trade who know anything about how book sales work.

It's doubtful that she wrote it. Most celebrity chefs don't write their own books, or even try the recipes in them.

I don't know many people who would argue with someone who DOES know how it works just because they don't like them. But that didn't seem to stop Piscivore.


Basically it's a fake way of driving up the ranking of the books. You get the wholesalers who buy in bulk and it pushes the numbers up. The gist seems to be that by doing so, it will convince the consumer that it's a best selling book and start a domino effect.

Btw the ranking system is not what it appears to be to most people. My book regularly ranks at around 30,000 out of 10 million books. Taylor Armstrongs is at 200,000. I can pretty much guarantee she's sold tens of thousands of more books than I have.

The ranking system isn't what it seems to be. And it's very easily manipulated. Even updating information on the book or shifting the listing into a different type of category can affect the ranking.

Those who want to buy her next book will still buy it, either through Amazon or somewhere else. Paula Deen is comfy for life. She'll probably bounce back at some point. If not, oh, well, she'll never be a panhandler.

I agree with you there. I think I posted here (or somewhere) earlier, she can take her millions and go off to her restaurants and be happy. Why is she trying so hard to keep at it.

I don't get these apology tours. Go away with your fists full of money and be quiet.

Thanks. I just knew we had a warehouse here because they are a huge local employer and everything I order I get really fast. Many times overnight even with super-saver shipping.
 
Paula Dean is a millionaire several times over. Shes 66 and she can just retire and turn her restaurant over to her sons.

As for being a bigot in some ways everybody is a bigot. She said the N word but so do many African Americans. Nobodys perfect.
