I recently received this email at Stop Sylvia, with the subject "interesting website and two questions":

Hi, I recently became disgusted with Sylvia Browne over the Amanda Berry reading on Montel. I was a "mild" fan of hers, I would watch her on Montel from time to time, but felt she was too vague and at times too EXACT in her readings. Now, I have no confidence in her and think she is a fraud. I found your website and find it interesting. I read your article online, I believe entitled I speak with Sylvia Browne, and have two questions: Did you ever confirm her Master's degree completion? and How is it that she recognized you? She asks your name after you completed your question...did the question clue her in? If you have time to reply that would be great. I do enjoy your website and hope you garner more attention to Ms. Browne's apparently lacking psychic skills. Sincerely, [NAME]

Thanks for taking the time to write.

It has been nearly five years since the events in that article, but I will answer your questions to the best of my abilities:

Q1: Did you ever confirm her Master's degree completion?
A1: No, I was never able to confirm that she earned a Master's degree anywhere, in any subject.

In fact, if you read the earlier article "A Sylvia Browne College Transcript", at http://www.stopsylvia.com/articles/sylviabrownetranscript.shtml, you will see that she sent to me (through a third party) a transcript which showed NO degree earned whatsoever - Master's, Bachelor's, Associate's or anything!

Of course, that does not prove that she never earned one, but - to me - it raises the question: If she has earned one, why has she not come forth with proof of it, either to me, or on her own web sites? And I have been told (but have yet to confirm) that her most recent books do not contain the claim of her having earned a Master's degree. Interesting, if true!

Q2. How is it that she recognized you? She asks your name after you completed your question...did the question clue her in?

A2: I cannot know for certain, but I believe (as I think I said in the article) that she was told by her staff that I was there.

My wife told me after the show that the man behind the ticket counter had given me a wide-eyed look of recognition when I bought our tickets, and we think it likely that he then told her.

And, even if he had not, I think it likely that she would have recognized me regardless. How? For one thing, I sort of stood out in a crowd. I was tall (6'1"), fat (around 350 lbs.), bald, and with a big, bushy, gray beard and moustache. Here is a photo of me from around that time:

...and I had appeared on an episode of Anderson Cooper 360 in which I (and others) strongly criticized Browne, which I think it likely that she had seen, and so knew what I looked like.

In addition to that, she had stated in an interview that she had hired a PI (private investigator) to "dig up dirt" on me (and on James Randi), and someone who worked in her headquarters had told me that Browne had shown around the office photos that the PI had taken of me entering my house, so I knew that she had photos of me.

All of this added up to her likely being able to recognize me.

You just got to love e-mails like that Robert. One thing I'm wondering is how much more damage did the Amanda Berry brouhaha do to O Wicked One.
 
Yes Severus, it's great to see that the Amanda Berry story has indeed brought less-than-positive attention to Browne, and resulted in visits to my site.
 
I tell you my favorite article was when you went face to face with The O'Wicked One. Just wondering, if you got another opportunity to get up close with her would you do it?

My initial reaction is "of course!", but in reality, it would depend on a number of things, Severus - including how wheelchair-accessible the venue is.
 
I will tell you I really think your site did a huge hit on Browne. Like I say, I don't really blame her victims for being scammed by her. There are some who watch her on Montel and so on and say "people who believe in nonsense like Browne deserve to be taken advantage of." This Aspie here can speak for only himself on this: I don't really care much for mediums even though I believe there may be some people with a certain gift" but if one of my dearest friends or family went missing I would be very tempted to seek a psychic like Browne. Would I really do so I can't say I would or wouldn't.

And now I must ask: Where or what is "BNA"? ("By North America"? "Big New Amsterdam"?

On a hunch, I looked for it as an airport abbreviation and discovered that BNA stands for Nashville International Airport - of course! It's so obvious once you know it! :confused:
