Had the stream running earlier and when I turned it off, I wondered why there were still chants and drumming going on ... came through the open door, solidarity demonstration down in the city. Only one of a dozen or two larger ones all over Germany.

Given the latest ticker items this will be a violent night in Istanbul.
 
Downtown Ankara will be "interesting" too I expect. A bit of chanting and banging going on in the inner suburbs.

Talking about tu quoque - what would provide the ultimate LULz and finish him off now would be an MIT whistleblower exposing Erdogan's and Davutoglu's prominent involvement in the conspiracy against Syria.

btw, here's a band I heard about in a lecture about "Metal bands of the Middle East" in Daniel Suarez' "Kill Decision" novel. This is my favorite of the freely available sample songs, and thanks to the events of last night I know that the title is the name of a neighbourhood in Istanbul. Amazing:

Not in detail. There was a story in conservative newspaper Yeni Şafak that made the claims and to which the PM made some sort of nod of agreement.

A cannot find the story itself or earlier references to it I read on a quick search. I'll have a better dig for you later.

If you love conspiracies you'd love this place. Whether its an exotic disease outbreak, a bombing, an economic or political crisis, many people are to readily looking for a bogeyman (ultimately Jews) to blame. It's a cancer that has people wallowing in lazy thinking and lack of national accountability that could in some cases be a barrier to genuine problem solving.

A Turkish daily defames CNN’s anchor Christiane Amanpour
Turkish daily Takvim has published a bogus interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, where she “admitted” that the CNN editorial board made her cover recent events with the express interest of destabilizing Turkey for international business interests, among a long list of other lies.

Takvim dedicated its cover on June 18 to this fake interview under the headline “dirty confession”. The spot reads “CNN International’s famous anchorwoman Christiane Amanpour spoke to Takvim and admitted ‘We did everything for money.’”

Takvim did put a tiny note at the end on the web page that this was not a real interview and that they were doing this to get back at CNN’s lies during the protests.

A disclaimer also existed on the newspaper itself saying “this interview is not real but what you will read here is real.”​

More attempts to blame these local events on evil foreign agencies out to get Turkey.

The BBC Global News director, Peter Horrocks has issued a statement in response to the Twitter campaign launched by Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek against the experienced BBC Turkish service journalist Selin Girit, expressing the institution's concerns over the recent discourse.

"The BBC is very concerned by the continued campaign of the Turkish authorities to discredit the BBC and intimidate its journalists," the statement by the BBC Press office said.

The statement confirmed that "a large number of threatening messages" had been sent to Girit, and called the targeting of the BBC reporter "unacceptable."

Gökçek launched June 23 a defamation campaign over Girit's reporting via the social media network on a forum held by protesters at a small park in Istanbul.​
