To hear the quieter clearer words, one needs to use the hole to the back of the speaker, with ears full on. A frequency was mentioned, but I have tried this in Croydon, Notts, etc, same frequency, same voice recognition. Best to do I think, is purchase a new laptop and start from a non-frequency recording.

The Bose loudspeakers have a bass reflex port on the back. flaccon listens to the speakers in an unusual way. She picks them up and applies the bass reflex ports to her ears. This acts rather like a bass boost.

I explained she can use Audacity to increase overall volume of tracks and to boost or attenuate frequencies. I showed her how to make a silence track.

Curiously, flaccon more than once referred to her recordings as EVP

I did not ask for or receive a book of messages or revealing destiny but then I was not a paying customer so that might not be a fair comparison.

The words are not at all clear. flaccon has lots of these recordings. I asked to hear the clearest samples she had. She said your ears have to become attuned to the voices. I asked for the clearest speech suitable for a beginner listener. Neither I nor my nephew could make out any consonants, words or sentences. However we did not listen for any extended period of time, only about an hour.

No props, no tricks is accurate.

No props, no tricks, no paranormal phenomena.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me Flocon's agenda is simple:

Call a press conference, get publicity, garner business for her fraudulent site, maybe get a book deal, the sky is the limit. It worked for Icke...

I did refer to that message that sounded like, "we don't do card games" it was actually my Fathers tone too. I should purchase a new laptop and remind myself what a silent recording sounds like. As this is the 2nd computer producing a strange frequency with voices that the family recognise, I really don't think it will remain a silent recording for long.

The content of the letter that the GP wrote "There are noises suggestive of words.." etc, means I still need to search an answer.

Thank u for your time on the matter, and please thank your nephew too. (Did he not say that he heard those 2 words? )

ETA. I was not aware you had brought cards? I would have tried it, I just wanted you to hear that message. I do not recall you asking if the spirits had left you messages, we did a 10 second recording together, and didn't listen in to it. Sorry Alderbank, I did not know you had cards in mind.

You had posted that the idea of 'card tricks' made you feel sick. Out of respect for you I did not mention card tests but I would have been prepared if you or the spirits had suggested it.

I agree you made a recording, we all paused in silence while it was being made.

I specifically and directly asked you whether the spirits had left any message for me or in any way about me. You thought before answering then said no they had not.

ETA: On thinking about it, we actually talked about card tests. I explained that what the forum had proposed was not 'card tricks' but was a standard test to help to confirm the existence of the spirits. Your reply was that the spirits had said 'we don't want card tricks'

Witnesses mean nothing outside a repeatable protocol. Please. You won't find anyone here to believe your healing claims. Pareidolia doesn't cure anything.
flaccon has never stated what diagnosed condition she was cured of. My guess is that it was something like ME, ie something where the symptoms might be entirely psychosomatic and which could therefore easily be "cured" overnight.

Thanks for taking the time to confirm that there is nothing going on here that can't be explained by pareidolia, Alderbank. As you said, no surprises.

Alderbank:

Thanks again. I realize you went from a rather passive lurker to taking one for the team at your expense, knowing full well it was going to be rather futile. I hope the nice drive in the country was worth it for you and your nephew.

Also, I don't know your nephew's age, but I hope it was a great opportunity to discuss critical thinking and why it is so important when it comes to extraordinary claims.

Cheers.

Here are some pretty cheerleaders for you:

If anyone does something similar to this again, it might be useful to start a small digital voice recorder before entering the venue, and letting it operate the entire time (assuming there is enough memory).

That would eliminate disagreement about what was said or asked. I think something like this was mentioned early in the attempt to develop a testing method, but it didn't remain in anyone's mind.

Sorry no, I referred "EVP" to the ones with the raw electronic voice phenomena, which is overlapped by a loud tone. Alderbank, the reason I didn't wish for any uploads to here is because there is no lens shield on some. You can of course upload the shielded ones., also the recording done with the GP.
I only use the back of the speaker to avoid the hiss of the speaker on max. It tends to make it easier.

flaccon, I would like to say that if you reconsider about carrying out a test I would be very willing to visit you again to help carry it out.

A test in no way demeans or insults anyone. It is a way for the spirits to show that they exist. In fact most people and all of us on the forum believe it is the only way to show they exist. A positive test will give them worldwide publicity, much more than the Chester Chronicle or hiring a hall would.

Alderbank I had no idea that you had the cards in mind. I thought you arrived to briefly hear out the odd? frequency, and then to think of how to test them. I have a third party ready to stand in for Kate.

I'm grateful to both Alderbank and flaccon for their efforts.

It certainly seems more evident than ever that this is indeed a simple case of pareidolia. I can't pretend that I expected anything else but it now seems clear that flaccon is listening to mid to low frequency noise which is somewhat imitative of speechlike sounds and is filling in whatever meaning she wishes for.

I realise that it can take time for a new listener's ear to become attuned to a poor quality communication channel, such as a low quality radio link, but if other listeners cannot even discriminate words after an hour's practice then I'm afraid the words are not really there.

We both enjoyed every aspect of the evening, thanks. My nephew is 22, just completed his first degree and is turning out well. He is no stranger to critical thinking and logical argument. He is a regular poster on Reddit but after tonight I think we might see him contributing to JREF

flaccon,

Did you read my post about tests for colorblindness? Can you answer it?

I'm sorry to hear that the frog did not sing for Alderbank and his nephew. I don't understand why these spirits who really seem to want to get their message out are finding such difficulty communicating with anyone but flaccon and her small circle of family and friends.

flaccon, do you expect that if you hire a hall and play your recordings others will be able to hear? Who will you invite, and of those that you invite, who will attend? You can put a "free beer" sign out, but I don't think it will be any more helpful than it was to the guy in the singing frog cartoon. Remember when I said that it was a funny cartoon, but a very serious allegory about your current situation? Take heed. The spirits may be playing you for a fool.

One problem was that you said the spirits would not co-operate in a test. Also we never got as far as agreeing exactly how it would be done.

Go back and read through the test we proposed. It is not insulting at all and is designed to be fair to all parties. Then, and this is important, try it out with Kate or your friend.

If it doesn't work, feed back into the forum for advice about changing it. Be prepared however for the possibility that failure means that the spirits are not there in reality but only in your head.

If the test works for you then it should work every time. Get back to us and we will run a controlled test

Yes that is what the message said, they don't want card tricks.

I don't want to dirty my hands when I dig a garden, but it's necessary.
