I put official TAM activities in Red, to distinguish them from the others. (The Donut and Bacon party counts as "official" for this list, even though it's not a JREF event. It's still on the official TAM schedule, anyway.)

Did anyone do the poker tournament last year? I read there was a few organisational problems, and there's very few details I can find about this years one besides the small paragraph on the registration page saying that it's an option. Are they doing the free poker workshops again this year too?

I'm a professional musician in Phoenix, but I've also worked in Vegas off and on in the 90s. I see a couple of threads regarding extracurricular activities. Well, two of the best shows in Vegas are as follows (and they are cheap):

at The Palms on Mondays at 10:30 pm (9:30 doors), $10

and

at Boulder Station on Fridays, doors at 8pm, free.

The bands consist of the Vegas musicians who back the star acts, but in this case they play the music they like to play: R&B/funk/soul/rock along the lines of Blues Brothers, Tower of Power, Chicago, James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Zeppelin, etc. Both bands really are incredible. I play on seeing Santa Fe on Monday the 15th, and would also like to see Lon Bronson on Friday the 12th if anyone is interested. That one is a longer drive, and so we'd need someone willing to split a cab or who has a car.

Check out the videos at each site and you'll see what I mean!

By the way, I am not affiliated with either band, and this is not a spam message. My wife and I are arriving Thursday July 11 and leaving Tuesday the 16th, and are staying the extra day specifically to see Santa Fe.

Wow, they look absolutely great, Phxhorn!

I'm leaving town on Monday but I'm very interested in going to see Lon Bronson on Friday. And the tickets are free? What the heck?? The Boulder Station website also lists some restaurants but they look pretty pedestrian. Do you know of any good places nearby?

I have no idea about food there, was just figuring I'd look around when I got hungry!
 
I don't post on the Forums a lot - but, there is nothing on the TAM Facebook page about my question. Is Skeptics in the Tub a listed extracurricular activity? I heard about it at TAM 8 or 9 - and didn't do anything about it last year, and I would be sorry to miss it if it is happening this year? Thoughts?

That was an unofficial sausage fest....errr....I mean "event" at TAM 9, IIRC. Might have been repeated last year, although I don't recall.

The problem with last year is that the pool area closed early. So, I don't think they had it.

We'll have to see about this year.
