If she's not communicating with Alderbank via PM's and since she certainly has not committed to a timeframe or a protocol here, I am guessing the whole thing for tomorrow is a no go at this point.

Is she not communicating with Alderbank? I thought she was and a meeting was set up for Sunday. Not happening?

I guess what I don't understand is why someone would get this close to being able to achieve something she has repeatedly deemed so important to accomplish, and then go completely silent on the eve of her potential success, during the most important phase - the final last few details. I was excited for her, but now my enthusiasm is turning to suspicion and disappointment.

Time zones being what they are, both she and Alderbank might be sleeping.

Did you miss the part about how the recordings adapt to be topical when played back again in the future? Not only are the spirits taking exception with testing now, they are doing so now on recordings made months ago even though they didn't then.

Then again, since the order of operations was always ask a question after making the recording, not the reverse, the voices heard on the recording are both permanent, since flaccon tells us others later hear the same as she, and alterable, since flaccon tells us some of her old recordings now play back differently.

So, a Swede hearing Swedish should be no surprise. I would expect, though, for the Swede and the Brit to hear the same message, just in different languages. Wouldn't you?

You'd probably hear English with a Thai cadence and a Italian-Yiddish inflection. The message would probably be about coffee, so listen carefully.

I'd like to know, too.

Both permanent and alterable. Works in Swedish. Works on a cellphone. Works on a laptop. Works on an imaginary Edison machine. Heals, counsels, has a plan for peace and prosperity.

The spirits don't like the circus, or cats -stray, milked or otherwise.

It's almost... let me think, almost... as if... as if it was all in someone's head...

If squids aren't fish, why does the whole thing smell so fishy?

I've been wondering about everyone on this thread from the start. I'm in the GMT-05:00 (EDT) and I've noticed some strange activity at all sorts of hours. Don't you Brits ever sleep?

The more we hear about how the recordings work the more certain it seems that we're looking at straightforward pareidolia.

The simpler the protocol the better at this stage. All that's required is that flaccon discern something about a playing card after the spirits have had a chance to look at it and she has not. I don't think we need to take elaborate precautions against flaccon cheating.

I suggest Alderbank simply takes a pack of cards with her, sits facing flaccon as she works at her computer, and looks at them one by one whilst making sure flaccon cannot see them.

Alderbank writes down what each card is, and next to it whatever flaccon thinks she hears (colour, suit, number or any combination).

When flaccon is happy she has heard whatever the spirits are willing to tell her about each card Alderbank puts it face down on a convenient surface and takes the next.

Continue until either flaccon or the spirits indicate that they have done enough.

Flaccon then takes the pack of read cards and compares it with the list that Anderbank has written down to confirm they have been recorded correctly.

For each card score one point for any feature (colour, suit or number) correctly identified, subtract one for any feature incorrectly identified.

Success criteria: a total score averaging one point for each card.

Eastern is the only real time zone. Most Brits have adjusted, but there are still some hold-outs. You can easily spot them, though, since they still use odd words for common things like elevators and trucks, and add letters where they don't belong or mix them up in words like color and theater.

They are a dying breed.

Speaking for myself I often wake up in the night, and this time of year when it gets light very early I also wake up early. I have a tablet that I amuse myself with for a few minutes before I try to get back to sleep. Yes, I am typing this on it in bed right now.

You know, it likely matters not at all. A lot of ground work has been laid for the simple exit of the spirits not cooperating.

Unfortunately, "I'm getting nothing" is exactly the result pareidolia would yield when looking for specifics about playing cards. Add in a belief of spirits at work, you've conditioned the voices to say, "No circus today."

One point per card seems a bit risky.
I calculated an average of 43 points per 52 cards on average, by chance alone.

52 cards

Colour 1\2 26
Suit 1\4 13
Value 1\13 4

43\52

I must say I'm in the Eastern TZ and I spell colour the proper way. ☻☺☻

If that is indeed the response then so be it. We tell flaccon that she can give up any hope of ever getting the message the spirits are giving her in their more cooperative moments to the world, and move this thread to a more appropriate subforum.

What if Alderbank goes to flaccon's house and it turns out that she is severely psychologically disturbed in some transparent way like living in a house full of years old newspapers and trashbags and used toilet paper that she keeps because she "might need it someday"? What would be the next step? Would it be appropriate to continue humoring her?

I haven't done any calculations (it's 6 am for God's sake) but don't forget the "subtract a point for a wrong guess" bit.

Never mind. I guess I jumped to my notepad before reading the rest. It's late for me too...

I don't work with math but it looks like you can expect an average score of minus 45 points over 52 cards. I may be missing a variable, but it looks like a point a card would certainly be plenty. My apologies.
