I guess Persons of Color don't include Latinos? Surely those sensitive types at A+ know where the suffix comes from. "Lucy, lemme 'splain you something!"

Since they want to do away with crazy and idiot and dumb because of the century-old connotations, surely a cultural reference from as late as the 60s cannot have slipped their notice.

I'm not sure that is the etymology in this context, it appears to be a back formation from mansplain (it'self a portmanteau of man and explain).

YEMMYnisting does just that. But Yemmy's a FTB good guy, a POC, and a noted activist, so I guess that's okay, right?

Yemmy posted about her blog in a thread entitled "Who has a blog? Self-promote here!" and her thread the "Introduce Yourself" forum. She also interacted with people in those threads rather than simply posting a link and leaving. It's not like she creates a new thread for every one of her posts and then doesn't post in those threads.

Anyone here still active over there and willing to question one of the holy of holies?

A poster asked if it was okay to repeat stuff from her FB page or would it be considered spamming.

Submor commented that since many members weren't on FB, it's probably not spamming and would be okay. But then he added that they'd probably only consider it spamming if someone was to simply show up from time to time to promote their site or blog.

I have come to the tentative conclusion that criticising people for hypocrisy on the Internet, while a popular pastime, isn't particularly effective, as avoiding hypocrisy is very hard to do and avoiding the appearance of hypocrisy is utterly impossible.

p.s. this post is hypocritical, as I have criticised people for hypocrisy and no doubt will do so again. ;)

She interacted for what? A week? And then you saw no more of her and she showed up again to plug the new location of her blog - FTB. Looks to me like she joined to plug her blog, did a couple of banter-ish posts and left. She only returned when she wanted to update the minions on the location of her new blog. Compare the discussion on her initial FTB blog to the chit chat on A+.

She's there to plug her blog. She's got credentials coming out of the wazoo, though... POC, African, Bi, FTB Blog, Activist..., so it's pardoned because A+ without FTB stars to swoon over is like tent revival without a preacher.

Yeah, but the difference is that you're willing to admit when you're using a double standard. I like to think I do, too. I truly doubt that anyone at A+ is going to even admit that it's a double standard.

I just don't see any reason to think that someone promoting their blog in a space specifically set-aside for doing so and/or in their own introduction thread would be considered "spamming" regardless of who they were.. I believe the behavior Submor is warning against is the repeated posting of outside content without interaction.

Of course you do.

People see what they want to see and disregard the rest.

Are people from MENA counted as white? After all that's how the classification is in the US, as I understand.

Not that I've seen, though they might be "white passing" (and thus have "passing privilege") depending on how they look.

PoC pretty much means "not European" since apparently dark olive skinned Mediterranean people are white, but lily pale Asian people aren't.

Seattle Skeptics have been addressing this controversy locally and a member emailed this to me:

http://www.skepticwomen.com/welcome-statement

We are aware of a campaign, headed by Amanda Marcotte and others, to remove Ronald A. Lindsay from his position as CEO of the Center for Inquiry. We do not support this effort. Mr. Lindsay has addressed women's equality with benevolence and brains. We endorse his role as the CEO of the Center for Inquiry, and we acknowledge the risk he has taken in speaking his mind. Likewise, we acknowledge the risks anyone else may take in criticizing this ideological camp's claims.
If you read the petition and agree with it, they ask you sign (forum or real name). You'll see a couple names you recognize.

I recognised some names of KNOWN SLYMEPITTERS!!11ONE.

Is any more proof needed that this is in fact a misogynist initiative targeting vulnerable women in skepticism? [/OVERDONE SARCASM]
