Partisan Republicans are livid that Christie didn't just name a conservative Republican outright, which he could have done. Instead Christie called for a special election on Oct. 16 with a primary on Aug. 13 although he will appoint an interim senator to fill the seat until then (no word yet on who that will be).

Well, he's a Joisey Boy, and they already dissed him bigtime for showing some good sense. I kind of hope they learn just how much of mistake it is to diss a joisey boy.

They may find themselves on the wrong end.

The wrong end of what? His ass?

This, IMO, is a smart move. If he appointed a democrat, the republicans would be pissed, and is he appointed a democrat, the republicans would be pissed. He's taking the smart way, and putting it to the voters. This way, the voter get to decide. Smart actually.

Huh. Normally I'm on the side of Dick Army, on account of his awesome name, but he seems to be in the wrong this time.

For different take on Chris Christie's strategy, there's this.

I'm sure that's part of it.

Better than the way the democrooks in Illinois filled obama's seat, huh?

This thing is *********** golden!

Oh, you mean the weasel who went to prison for that?

I see you have to keep avoiding that fact.

Now how about the 2004 vote counting in Ohio? Why didn't they go to jail? Oh, wait, they were protected by the administration they got voted in.

Wow. That made no sense. I keep avoiding something I brought up in my first post in this thread???

And what does Ohio voting in 2004 have to do with replacing a us senator in either Illinois or New Jersey?

This kind of strategizing was predicted Monday night on local news shows here in the New York-northern New Jersey area:

Cory Booker will almost certainly run for Senator. He'll probably win.

Now, if he's running on the ticket, there could be higher turnout from black voters and other liberal factions to vote for him. These voters would not be very interested in voting for Christie's Democratic gubernatorial opponent, but, since they're in the voting booth anyway, they'll pull the lever for her.

In order to avoid this, Christie has called for a special election to take place a mere two weeks before the normally-scheduled general election. At a cost of $24 million.

Chris Christie's a player. I'm sure the first thing he thought was, "What's the best way to do this for me?"

And I have no problem with it. Politics is his career. I don't expect him to be a Boy Scout.

I do wish he'd consider going on a uhhh, say a health kick. I saw his press conference, you could make a tent out of his suit jacket.

Hell, knowing the possible outcome beforehand, if he had scheduled the special election for the same day then lost his because of it, he'd probably get widely derided as a fool.

Yes I was agreeing with you. The publication date on the blog was today, June 4th, after the announcement.

The TV newscast was Monday night, on PBS 13 in New York.

Putting the welfare of his constituents ahead of partisan party politics?
I have a problem with that. He's cut a lot of important programs because of budget concerns but is willing to waste $24 mil for an election that would cost nothing if he had just waited a couple of weeks.

That's a good reason to be outraged IMO. Why isn't the election being delayed for a couple of weeks ? Would delaying the election by a couple of weeks save any or all of the $24m ?
