Area of an Equilateral Triangle

Gotcha. I forgot that my method would be dividing the base side in half, so it would be 2.5 instead of 5. And, of course, you're right about the hypotenuse. I knew that part was wrong, but thought it may have been the mistaken notion represented by the test question.

That's not a hypotenuse that I calculated. We know the hypotenuse is 5. We have to calculate the height.

Well the teacher who administered the test said they knew about the error. I didn't get a good explanation why they asked a question with no correct answer in the choices given. She was "tickled" that a parent was involved enough to question the test. Sorta sad that I was the only one.

So the whole thing was a test to see if any parents give a **** about their children's education?

ftfy.

BTW I think that brodski was interpreting the comma as a decimal point (but that didn't stop me from being a smart alec).

And I was was reinterpreting the the comma as a decimal (vice versa...whatever). The math was correct; the notation was not. :)

ETA: Errrr....I seem to be having some problems with the non-SI prefixes. :boggled:
