Continuation Part 5: Discussion of the Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito case

There is also no need to go after the Kerchers - aside from the fact that it is unseemly in the first place so to do. All their information amounts to hearsay anyway. I can read the first part of John's book with a tear in my eye, but see the second part as simply bad information about a wrongful prosecution.

What was the content of the second half, was it not unlike his newspaper articles? Amanda's 'shoeprint' in the murder room, that sort of thing?

There is no question, though, that the primary victim here is Meredith Kercher, and by extension what her family has had to go through these years.

What was the first part of the book like, did you ever write a review of it you could link or something?

It was basically a rehashing of the prosecution's case. IIRC he seemed even unaware that even Massei had debunked mixed blood or the alleged bad relationship between the two women. Of all the people in this horrible tragedy, I think I relate to him the closest.

What was the first part of the book like, did you ever write a review of it you could link or something?
It was what the booked was originally billed as being. The bit about hearing for the first time, "The name being bandied about is 'Meredith'," is the most emotionally wrenching. No, I have not.

Here's the review. "When Mr. Kercher talks about his lost daughter, every father knows what he's talking about. When Mr. Kercher talks about the speficis of the case against two innocents, it is clear he's received bad information."

Maybe Rudy studied parkour

Anti-gravity packs demonstrated here. Music is Big Chief, but I'm not sure if it is really Professor Longhair.

I think a number of people have stated how they got involved in following this case, but I haven’t. I’m not going to say that I believed they were guilty and changed my mind. I assumed they were guilty. What I knew about the case was via the media and so I knew that the police had found AKs bloody footprints, that there was mixed AM/MK blood in the bathroom, that they had DNA evidence on a knife that proved it was the murder weapon, that witnesses placed them at the scene of the crime, etc. To me there was no reason to assume anything else but guilt. I did poke my nose into the thread when it first appeared, but after about the first page decided that I just couldn’t be bothered, they were guilty, that was it.

It was quite some time until I came back to the case, just before the appeal was to be heard. The only reason that I came back was because the thread had grown so long that I was wondering what could possibly keep it going for so long in what I still assumed was a cut and dried case.

A little background on me. At 15 I was told by a teacher to never accept anything you don’t check out yourself. Something I have held close ever since. I have always been interested in science, and I have Physics, Chemistry, Computing, and Psychology credits in the papers I did at University. I have also always been interested in space travel, geology, and astronomy. In 2001 I watched a program on TV about how the Apollo Program was hoaxed, and it stunned me how bad the claims were and how anyone could believe it. In 2003 I joined a forum here in New Zealand and discovered that people actually did believe it. I started to debunk the myths and lies of the Hoax claimants along with another poster, who eventually recommended a few places for reading material to further my knowledge, one being Phil Plait’s Bad Astronomy. I joined up and one of my first debunking efforts was Richard Hoagland’s Glass Worms on Mars. I then dived into Apollo boots and all, joining the ApolloHoax.net site I and learned a lot on the way. I even spent time at GPL fight for reason and science against Apollo Hoaxsters and Planet Xers there.

In about 2005 I came across another strange species on the net, the 9/11 Denier. After a while they were banned from Bad Astronomy, which had become the BAUT Forums by then, and so when I had a curly question I wanted an answer to in 2007 I found my way here. After an initially rather hostile reception (I never did find out the answer to my question so I still don’t know if the Seconds from Disaster program was right when it stated that parts of the wing of Flight 77 were found dug into the ground in front of the Pentagon) I ended up fighting 9/11 and Apollo Deniers here. In about 2011 I got sick of going around in circles and basically walked out of the Conspiracies threads altogether because they weren’t going anywhere.

So that is me, I have spent over 10 years dealing with people who believe conspiracy theories, I know their tactics, and their arguments well.

So what does all this have to do with the Knox/Sollecito case? As I said, I poked my head in and had a look at what was going on a little while before the appeal was heard. At the time the Time of Death was being discussed. I listened to both sides and curious, I decided to follow my old teacher’s advice, and check it out myself. After about a week of reading various sources I had to come to the conclusion that the prosecution had the time of death well off, that the science just did not allow for death to have occurred after 11:30pm as they were claiming. That was a red flag.

There have been a number of cases in New Zealand where there have apparently been miscarriages of justice. David Bain who was accused of murdering five family members, now found Not Guilty in a retrial, Peter Ellis, caught up in the witch hunt of child care sex abuse cases, released but still fighting to clear his name, Scott Watson, still in jail for a double homicide he most likely did not commit, Arthur Allen Thomas, jailed by a police officer planting evidence, pardoned nine years later, a royal inquiry finding him innocent. I had followed these, and looked into the Arthur Allen Thomas one since I was a little young at the time. Another thing that drew me to mysteries was that the wife of a family friend had been murdered, and for some time he was suspected as the killer, finally after the body was found it was written off as Suicide, even though there were classic signs of murder. The reason being that since they knew by then that the husband could not have done it (he had a strong alibi and away from the house at the time of her disappearance) he was the only one they had been after. Once that fell through they had no one so closed it as a suicide. Seeing how the police worked in these cases and what went wrong in the investigations and created holes in case lead me to have a good idea of what to look for.

So I had a red flag. This led me to looking deeper into the case. I started reading up, starting with the pages and pages of the thread here, then elsewhere. I started seeing the same hallmarks of poor police work and bad science I saw in other cases. That made me worried, was what I assumed wrong. So I started working on a time line. I followed what he PIPs were saying, Camera sightings, MK coming home, added what I could find. I tried my best to use physical evidence first and then witnesses if they existed. It took a bit, but after a while I had managed to construct a reasonable timeline for a solo killing by RG followed by a police investigation that was quick to focus onto the quirky American because of her behaviour. Things fell into place relatively easily from the murder to how the police investigation progressed and what likely caused them to go in each direction, e.g. the text message and AK meeting up with PL cementing the police’s suspicions that they were both involved.

Once I had built a reasonable and consistent timeline for innocent I started trying to build one for guilt. I couldn’t. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get a timeline that was consistent with the evidence, the science, and actually made some sort of sense. That really worried me, so I started asking for help, and ran into a brick wall. None of the PGPs I asked would help, all I got were glib remarks and claims that it had all been done before, and to go and read the Massei Report.

So I did, and that didn’t help me, if anything it made my suspicions that my initial assumptions were way off base. Nothing added up. Most of what I had accepted as true, wasn’t, even according to the Court Ruling that found them guilty. Worse most of the stuff that it did accept was in reality little more than speculation and guesswork without as lot of hard science and evidence to back it up and any chance of creating a rational believable timeline exploded. My BS buzzer was ringing loudly and I had moved from a position of assuming guilt, to a position of reasonable doubt. The journey didn’t end there though. I started looking at the crime scene photos, reading more, watching the videos, bring back questions, questions the PIPs answered quickly and easily, questions that the PGPs avoided and refused to answer. By the time of the appeal I was leaning firmly to probably Not Guilty, but certainly reasonable doubt. The M&C report nailed it for me. After reading that I moved to fully innocent, the last possible doubts of guilt gone.

After the appeal and the Hellmann Report I didn’t see much point in sticking around. The PGPs were still acting like conspiracy theorists, and the pair had been freed. I figured that rationally had won, so I was rather surprised by the Supreme Court’s ruling. As a result I’m sort of popping back in to see if I missed anything, I will be interested in seeing their reasoning.

So that is my story. I don’t know AK or RS, I don’t particularly want to mean either of them any more then I want to meet David Bain. I believe that they are innocent from nothing more than because that is what the physical evidence actually says. The prosecution’s case is built on a house of cards and each pillar it sat on has been thoroughly examined and been found wanting, and regardless of what the SC tries to do, with the H&C report out there, nothing will prevent that being part of the new Appeal. It’s been shown; the police’s collection and testing methods have been discredited, and will be shown to be so again, and without that evidence, the whole house of cards crumbles.

A review of Mr. Kercher's book written by Thomas Graham on Amazon sums up best the information that Mr Kercher received, especially during the appeal's trial. This is only part of what is, essentially, the best review to understand the book.

Thomas Graham said:
On page 249 the author while waiting for the appeal verdict states "Between ourselves, we felt that the appeal was simply a process we would have to endure, and that the final result would be the same". What on Earth was he being told? The tide had been turning in Amanda's and Raffaele's favour for months but it seems that the Kercher's were their usual blinkered, uninformed selves. The Conti-Vechiotti report that destroyed the prosecution's case is virtually non-existent in this book. The author blames American politicians for interfering in the case and suggesting that they influenced the Appeal Court, however if he had taken off the blinkers he would have known that it was the fact that the evidence against Amanda and Raffaele was being proven to be totally flawed that undermined the prosecutions case. It seems that he was oblivious of the events unfolding right in front of his face.

Highlighting is mine. It is my belief that the case against the two innocents was already falling apart towards the end of the 1st trial, as I said upthread. It's the reason why even Barbie Nadeau told CNN in Dec 2009 the night of the conviction, "The prosecution case was weak, but the defense case was weaker. This could very well be overturned at appeal." Indeed, 90 days after the conviction, Massei himself writes a motivations report with at least 11 key prosecution points (theories) debunked.

I'm not sure either what the Kerchers were told in the 22 months between conviction and (now quashed) acquittal. All I know is the way I would be in similar circumstances.

yeah but why would he do that if he could almost walk in around back thru the window around back that is much more secluded.

maybe he just likes attracting attention to himself hurling large rocks at windows and then climbing up 13 feet twice, first time to pry open the external shutters, all within site of the main road b/c the other more logical entry point was just too easy.

then there is the fact there's no evidence on the exterior of the house or in that bedroom that he ever came in that way which is amazing if he's outside in the yard looking around for rocks then climibing up and down twice and sharp glass gives an oppoturnity for cutting himself and the entire climb through the window would seem to present some opportunies for DNA removal by pressure being applied to his skin and some rubbing action.

Your argument is getting weaker and weaker....

When I first learned of Knox, I had the impression that she was innocent because the media gave me the impression that she was innocent. I had an engineering professor who told me that the most dangerous people are people who don't know, and don't know that they don't know. So I always seek to know everything and to know if I know everything. This is how I began a 5 year quest into the truth regarding Knox. Here are some thoughts that I have about Knox that kind of tie some things together:

Keep in mind that Knox is a creative writing major and she fancies herself as creative. she also likes practical jokes as demonstrated by the rock throwing at moving cars at her party in Seattle and by her keeping her rabbit vibrator out in the open in the bathroom she shared with Meredith to annoy/intimidate Meredith. It is not difficult to envision this creative writing major coming up with some scheme to haze her conceited little prissy roommate Meredith and given the fact the two were on drugs that did not have the judgment to back off of this idea.
also note well that Knox's favorite novel is Crime and PUnishment which is basically about a guy who commits a murder and gets away with it. this guy thinks he has a moral right to kill people that he finds are worthless and human debris.
we should also note the fact that Knox had at least 7 sex partners by age 20, a reputationa of being a man eater, her own email admission that she had sex with a stranger on the train to Perugia which also shows her addiction to danger, we begin to understand that this babe had some psychological issues that are exposed in a sexual way. Most women don't have 7 sex partners in their entire lives much less by the age of 20, b/c they are worried about getting pregnant with some guy's baby who they don't love and/or they have moral qualms over abortion. so Knox basically going around having tons of sex with random guys like pregnancy/abortion isn't a risk does indicate she is missing some of her marbles. We must also not fail to consider that Knox acted in an incredible sexual way post murder to include kissing her boyfriend outside the cottage, engaging in a bit of foreplay with him at the station, flirting with the cops at the crime scene in her infamous ta-da bootie thing and hip swivel, doing yoga stances at the station that no doubt were sexual in nature, and buying G-strings at a sex shop and making such a sexed up scene that it attracted the attention of the store owner and other customers such that the store owner gave the store cctv tape to the police and even testified in court about this and there's no reason why any store owner would want to get involved in a criminal trial if all she did was buy some underwear and that's it.

good post.

Speaking of Amazon reviews for Knox's blockbuster Waiting To Get It On, I too have written a review. You can find it under the 1 star reviews with a title including a joke comparing Knox to OJ Simpson in some way.

There is also an active comment section below if you wish to participate. Inappropriate jokes about Knox's sex addiction are encouraged.

I will appreciate any feedback that you can provide me on this review. As a professional mechanical engineer, I am always striving for self improvement and this is also a good opportunity to hone the writing and reasoning skills that I need in my daily work.

Send family and friends over to see me on the review as well.

Interesting.

it's not the size of the rock, it's the impact velocity of the rock as it hits the window and a lighter rock would be easier to impart the required velocity on the rock such that it would shatter the glass upon impact.

Seriously? This is the second time you posted this, and the second time your physics has been more than a little dodgy.

The physical property of the rock that determines if a rock goes through the glass or bounces off is momentum, not velocity.

And you know what. Not one thing you have written above is physical evidence that she was involved in killing someone.

Seriously? This is the second time you posted this, and the second time your physics has been more than a little dodgy.

The physical property of the rock that determines if a rock goes through the glass or bounces off is momentum, not velocity.

this is a distintinction without a differennce as momentum = p = mv (m = mass, v = velocity). In other words, if velocity increases, momentum increases.

so obviously if the impact velocity is greater, the momentum is greater. If you consider the equation one immediately understands that a lighter rock with mass m can achieve a greater momentum p because by default a human being can impart a greater initial velocity v on the rock. even a 1 lb increase to mass m is going to reduce the velocity v that the theoretical intruder could impart on the rock thus it making it less likely he is successful in shattering the glass which is, of course, his ultimate objective. Given man as finite level of strength, and given our understanding that man can throw a lighter rock at a higher velocity than a heavier rock using the same amount of energy, one must assume the intruder would use a lighter rock if his goal was to be successful on the first or least second attempt from some distance away.

The only constraint that could have lead to the theoretical intruder to have used the 10 lb rock is that it was the only one found in the yard.

Yet, one must question if a 10 lb rock is just sitting around in the yard...that seems like a pretty big rock to be found in a yard and seems like the owner of the house would have removed it. One begins to wonder if the theoretical intruder actually had to scour the neighborhood for a rock of this size.
And it seems like if such a large rock was sitting around in the yard, there would be some smaller lighter rocks also available. Does anybody know is this yard also functions as a rock quarry?

Thanks for this. I came to this while reading an English language paper while travelling abroad in the summer of 2011. All the thought I'd ever put into it, what little I did back then was, if they have DNA then they must be guilty.

But the paper delved into some detail about how the DNA evidence was falling apart. When I got back home I went to the internet and discovered just how razor thin the DNA evidence was to begin with.

The rest is history. The first part of the case I got into in any depth was checking with a friend who worked through the local courthouse on the break-in and Kermit's powerpoints as to the break-in's doability and the best point of access. My friend went through the powerpoints, not knowing "boo" about the rest of the case, and he said, "Whoever put together this powerpoint is overthinking this, and is not thinking like someone experienced as a second-storey burglar. By the time a single powerpoint slide is done showing how difficult this was supposed to be, an experienced burglar would be up and in. That break-in was doable."

In addressing the other points of entry - I had not yet seen the way the balcony was totally exposed to the street and lit by a streetlight - his comment was: "Why choose a point of entry somewhere else with a 98% chance of success, when you have one staring right at you (ie. Filomena's window) which gives you a 97% chance of success? Whoever did this powerpoint should not consider a career in burglary."

Then I asked PGP to list Knox's lies, because it always seemed to default back to that. Whenever a PGP would concede an argument, they'd always revert to, "all the lies Knox told". I, for the life of me, could no see where she lied. I found a list drawn up by a strange character named "The Machine", and of the 10, nine were lies supposedly told by Sollecito! All of them, to me, were misstatements Sollecito would have said in the context of being isolated and threatened by police. Hardly "lies" in the most basic sense of the word.

And please remember, at the time (as Grinder will remind you) I was of the opinion that she should be held accountable for the statement about Lumumba. I don't think I ever regarded it as a "lie", but people will remember me going on and on about how she was indictable, just not convictable. It was not until I read Mignini's own accounting of the interrogation (cf. Drew Griffin CNN 2010) that I think I understood the nature of the lies Mignini was telling about that interrogation.

Satanic theory...

Mignini never ever said it was about a Satanic rite going wrong. that's a real big lie so why should anybody believe you anything else? You goal is to mislead. you cannot provide one quote from Mignini where he talks about satantic rite in this case, or any other case which is curious if it was his motive theory he could hardly keep it a secret.
<snip>

Prosecutors accuse Knox of engaging in a Satanic ritual:http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/article242579.ece

Mignini's favourite characterization of Knox was as a "she-devil" He meant it literally.

Point for Bill Williams! :D

What does Machiavelli have to say about that? I tried to engage him on it to finally get the whole truth of it and he swore up and down and held his breath that Elizabeth Vargas lied about that. Now we have Follain, and there was another report, (was it Nina Burleigh? Maybe even Barbie?) that Mignini tried to re-enter it in the last days of the Massei trial.Plus we know he definitely went after a 'satanic' cabal in the Monster of Florence case, so why would this be so surprising? I just don't understand!

Hiya Kaosium, Bill Williams, drtesla
Here's some info from B. Nadeau's book Angel face that I have quoted before:

Reading in Angel Face, authored by B. Nadeau, it says this:
"Very early in the case, investigators suggested that the murder was a product of a Satanic ritual, because of the Halloween paraphernalia found in the villa and at Raffaele's apartment." *

It also mentions this regarding the prosecutions video dramatization of the murder:
"Il Messaggero's Italo Carmignan learned that Mignini and Comodi clashed over whether to include the sexual violence against Meredith. Mignini also wanted to reintroduce the theory of a Satanic rite. Comodi blocked both impulses." **

From what I gather from reading Angel Face, Barbie Nadeau highly regards Italo Carmignani, for she writes this:
"I also made a good friend in Italo Carmignani, a seasoned crime reporter for Il Messaggero with great local contacts; he generously shared his exclusive knowledge of the case." ***

From what I can tell, Il Messaggero
http://www.ilmessaggero.it/
doesn't appear to be a tabloid source for Mignini talking about satanic cults.

Hmmmm,
more proof of Mignini's satanic theory,
from another pro-guilt author...

Hey drtesla,
In my humble opinion,
you would do the pro-guilt community proud if you would just admit that yes,
the detectives, investigators+prosecution goofed up many, many times in this horrible murder case we discuss. Heck, doesn't even Barbie Nadeau write of it?

this is a distintinction without a differennce as momentum = p = mv (m = mass, v = velocity)

Why do you insist on focusing on velocity when it's the momentum that matters. Are trying to say that it is impossible to throw the rock? We're talking about shattering glass, not piercing a the armor of a tank.

Your responsible for your silent approval. At least a couple of you spoke up The minister, the professor, and the lawyer did not.

I think you meant "you're" but anyway I've spoken out on this many a time. I would like to see you and yours speak out on the name calling of Amanda and any and all people that support her side.

As I pointed out, his history didn't including robbing people he knew and I don't think he ever even targeted a house in Perugia,

snip

if the chit don't fit this scenario, you must not acquit Knox.

I rest my case. Next.[/QUOTE]

Guedes friends testified that Guede would often bother women...he would block their path and make an embarrassing situation for them. They also testified that he would often steal women's purses while they were out on the dance floor. I cant imagine why Guedes friends would lie about that.

You case is getting weaker and weaker.

Rudy was caught in possession of stolen items taken from a lawyers office in Perugia. He was also caught with a knife, money and a ladies gold watch. The knife and money were stolen from a nursery school and a gold ladies watch was reported missing from a recently burglarized and burned apartment very near to Guedes own place. What would Occam say?

There is zero evidence of any crime committed by AK or RS.
