Hunger strikers protesting indefinite detention at Gitmo

You are pretty naive if you think the US (or any other) Government cares a heck about the "bill of rights".

Your cynicism is silly and useless.

You are basically applying black-and-white mentality to politics, probably the least black-and-white thing in the world, and expecting to hit the target.

I was wrong? Maybe there are no exceptions to the (in)justice system?

And another round of cynicism. Does every subject get coloured by those glasses of yours ? Because the world must really seem to suck, if that is so.

Really, there's good and bad, and the philosophy that it's all bad simply makes cynics unwilling and unable to do anything about it and make it better.

Think about that.

They won't, suicide is against Islam. It's nothing but a publicity stunt.

They took this publicity stunt (Islam does not condone suicide) from the suffragists in early 20th century U.S. & UK.

I can't work out if this is supposed to be irony or not. Plenty of Muslims have committed suicide in the past as you would know if you read the papers.

Aside from those, a few inmates of Guantanamo Bay committed suicide after meeting Bill O'Reilly (I'm not making a connection here).

As for who they are influenced by, I would be surprised if they thought of the Suffragettes as their role models. It's a widely practiced form of protest. As an example, Bobby Sands starved himself to death despite Catholicism having a taboo on suicide.

While I have my issues with Peter Bergen, he is correct about this one:

Terror threat from Gitmo prisoners is exaggerated

Of the 603 former detainees who have been transferred out of the prison camp, we identified only 17 individuals (2.8 percent) who are confirmed to be engaging in terrorist or insurgent activities against the United States or its citizens, while there are 21 individuals (3.5 percent) who are suspected of engaging in such activities. We also identified 15 former detainees who are confirmed or are suspected of militant attacks against non-U.S. targets (2.5 percent).

(...)

Based on the public record, even if you combine all the released Guantanamo prisoners who are confirmed or suspected to have taken part in any form of militant activity anywhere in the world, the total comes to 53, or 8.8%, which is much lower than the 27% being cited by the U.S. intelligence community.
This 8.8% rate is also far smaller than the recidivism rate of criminals in the United States, which currently stands around 67.5%, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Interestingly, all but one of these former Guantanamo detainees who joined militant groups were released under the Bush administration. Under Obama, comprehensive threat assessments have been used to determine a detainee's eligibility for release, which has contributed to the fact that of the 72 prisoners released under Obama we were only able to find one who had joined a militant group after his release.

Peter Bergen/CNN said:
...we are confident that our numbers are reasonably accurate because groups like al-Qaeda and the Taliban are eager to trumpet the identities of released Guantanamo detainees who join their ranks and the media is also quick to highlight such stories.

Mmm hmmm. I'll stick with the numbers from the organization that actually has access to and communications with foreign intelligence agencies.

As opposed to the organization that uses Alt-F on a few newspapers and qualifies their "research" with statements like the one quoted above.

Would that be the same organization that tortures people? You swallow their numbers like water poured down your throat?

This guy, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, is still locked up at gitmo. Apparently he`s awaiting prosecution sence his arrest in 2003.

His military show trial already commenced in May 2012. Haven't heard much from that since.

The Taliban (Pashto: طالبان‎ ṭālibān "students"), alternative spelling Taleban,[6] is an Islamic fundamentalist political movement in Afghanistan. It spread into Afghanistan and formed a government, ruling as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from September 1996 until December 2001, with Kandahar as the capital

Check your link, it confirms it was a pakistani movement that invaded afghanistan

Here is the account of Ahmed Belbacha, one of the Guantanamo prisoners cleared for release who is among the hunger strikers, of his forced feedings as told to Cori Crider, the Strategic Director of Reprieve. Reprieve is a London-based legal action charity that filed a motion with the District Court in Washington D.C. to ask the court to compel the government to “stop force-feeding in the prison and stop force-medicating prisoners, particularly with Reglan, a drug used by the U.S. during the force-feeding process that when used for extended periods of time can cause severe neurological disorders, including one that mimics Parkinson’s disease.”
