Merged Sylvia Browne: "You'll meet her (Amanda Berry) in heaven" / Sylvia Browne wrong again

I'm sorry the thread about the case was merged with the new thread relating it to Sylvia Browne, when there is a perfectly good thread talking about Sylvia Browne's role in this case in the General Scepticism subforum.

Now we've got two threads talking about Sylvia Browne. Couldn't we have a thread about the actual case?

Rolfe.

Amanda has just had a story in the UK news a few mins ago...no mention of Slyvia or Montel yet.

Surely there must be a law in which Sylvia Browne can be charged?

Can anyone find the clip of Sylvia on Montel making the false prediction of Amanda Berry?

I sent a link to Robert's page to all the TV stations in Portland and Eugene. I hope someone will pick up on this and expose her once again for the total *************** she is. Jail is too good for her.

I've linked a couple of her clangers to the Snopes.com forum thread on the finding of these girls.

I'm not sure what purpose a petition is supposed to serve, but it seems unlikely to result in a law against lying or any consequences for Sylvia Browne.

Nor should it. I can't think of a way to word a law that will be specific enough, not have unintended consequences and not run afoul with free speech.

But the purpose has to be to shine a light on the issue and create debate. That can never hurt.

In my opinion, the way to punish Sylvia Browne is to show up wherever she's trying to make a buck with her lies and make sure the truth that proves she's a fraud is made available to anyone who might be deceived.
She should be forced to dig through every dumpster in the country until she finds "Amanda's jacket with DNA on it" or until she publicly admits that she is an outright liar and fraud and agrees to repay every single client mark she's ever taken money from.

the problem is many of those going to such events are already very deep into the woo and want to believe in this stuff.

Suspect of a 10 year kidnapping. Sylvia hinted that the "Cuban-looking" guy (not a guy with a Cuban-sounding name) was the person who murdered Amanda. So it's not even a partial hit. She was simply as wrong as you could be.

Of course she is. But she did mention Cuba in a case where the main suspect(s) aren named Castro. A slimeball like her, with zero honesty and an even lower score in integrity, could and would work this in her favor -- if she hadn't been so dead wrong about the missing girl having been killed.

Besides, she said the suspect was 21-22 years old, 10 years ago . The three arrested are all in their fifties.

Similarly, her supporters tried to claim her coming up with "Michael" was a hit in the Shawn Hornbeck reading. I pointed out there too that her reading was providing the name of the murderer of Shawn. Since Shawn was still alive (there was no murder and no murderer), there's no logical way to claim she got the name of the murderer right.

Not that Sylvia Browne supporters are ever troubled by semantics.

This is good poster material for any venue the scarlet clawed harridan tries to spread her nonsense in

But I believe she's retired now, so I doubt the news stories will mention this huge failure of hers. And if they do, they certainly won't blame Montel for his part in promoting Sylvia.

She was in my town (as part of her tour) just last month, so, no, she isn't.

Michael was the top baby name in the US for decades. According to US Social Security statistics, it was number 1 in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's and dropped to number 2 in the 50's and 00's. If you're going to pick a name with the highest hit rate, that would be it.

The skeptic community really needs to hit back hard on this.
She didn't just give bad information, she said things that, by what was written in the article, devastated the mother, and perhaps led to an early demise.

Oh, we will hit Browne hard on this. Don't worry about that.
