Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

So you're only concerned with the well-being of a victim of mistaken identity if the person is naked?

Fetish?
Boy, you just go out of your way to find an empty insult instead of a reasoned argument, don't you? Whatever floats your boat.

I'm attempting to state your position accurately. I don't think his reputation was damaged. I don't think the naked man's reputation was damaged.

If anyone's reputation was damaged as a result of these transient suspicions, it would have been the person who was actually stripped, handcuffed, and arrested by police, and not the one who was subjected to speculation by anonymous armchair comments.

If I'm misrepresenting your position, I apologize. You're welcome to clarify it.

Whether an action is blameworthy or not depends, in part, on the context.

An armchair sleuth idly scanning photos and publishing his suspicions online, with faces visible and sometimes names named, is much different than the police trying to secure the scene of a gunfight, and suspecting that an innocent man was involved and may be dangerous.

As well, the police had no role in publishing the image of the man. (Nor do I think that the media was necessarily wrong to broadcast his image in this case, but if you must blame anyone, blame them.)

He has not been identified.

Unlike Sunil Tripathi.
I'm certain that his reputation is the least of Sunil Tripathi's concerns at this point.

I didn't follow the discussion everywhere, but on Reddit there were people insisting "It's not him" from the moment someone posted the comparison of his portrait to Suspect #2. That quickly became the consensus position.

I don't approve of those who posted his picture, or his name. The Redditors have apologized to his family, and donated to funds attempting to locate him (as fruitless as that search is likely to be).

What have the police done for the naked man? "Here's fifty bucks for your trouble"? No? "Sorry, have a nice day"? Maybe.

Are you honestly doubting that internet sleuths published names and faces?

Surely, no one can doubt that there were photos discussed online showing faces of individuals the online sleuths suspected.

Nor can anyone doubt that online sleuths openly discussed their suspicions of Tripathi, for instance.

Do you honestly ask for citations of both?
No. And no.

You've shown concern for the naked man. None for the high school student. As a matter of fact, you've gone far, far out of your way to detail exactly how the high school student is an "idiot".

I'm sorry if you don't like your own words thrown back at you. Maybe settle down and think before hitting "post" would solve that issue?

The authorities are reporting that the reason the M.I.T. guard was killed is that the pair wanted his gun.

They had only one gun at the time.

The guard had a locking holster, however, so their attempt to acquire his gun was unsuccessful.

Maybe that's why they hijacked a car too, even though they already had one car.

Was it Internet sleuths that named Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi, interrogated him in the hospital, searched his apartment and claimed he was being deported because he was on the terrorist watch list?

Yes, I ask you to provide evidence to support your case and not just echo baseless rumors like a junior g-man Internet sleuth.

What fluff. You make up nonsense, and then say the nonsense is my words?

I'm simply pointing out the double standard. Both the naked man and the bag men have interesting stories to share over a beer. None of them have suffered irreparable harm.

Seems like you're still saying what happened to the bag men is unconscionable, while what happened to the naked man is no big deal. I still think that's evidence of a double standard which is inconsistent with critical thinking.

As is lying about what someone else has said.

Again, please detail your experience with the bolded. I'd hate to think you're just pulling stuff out of thin air.

The naked man and the high school kid suffer equally, to a level you're not qualified to discuss.

I'll choose which details of my personal experience I share. If you have pictures of me wearing a backpack in public, or being marched naked and handcuffed into a squad car, you're welcome to post them.

At least we agree on something.

to a level you're not qualified to discuss.
If one of us is qualified to discuss it, that one would be me.

If neither of us is qualified to discuss it, you're welcome to drop out.

If it's no big deal to have other people post pictures of you wearing a backpack in public at the scene of a horrific bombing attack, or being marched naked and handcuffed into a squad car, then it should be even less of a deal for you to post them yourself.

Where is this BS comming from? The older brother was shooting at officers on Laurel St. when he ran out of bullets and charged the officers where he was captured and handcuffed. The younger brother drove off and abandoned the SUV 5 blocks away at the corner of Spruce and Lincoln, managed to cross the police perimeter on foot and hid out in the boat behind the house on Franklin street less than three blocks from the SUV. When police approached the boat there was gun fire. Where did the younger brother get that gun if they only had 1 gun to begin with?

Damn it, Jim, I'm a pundit, not a journalist.

Just heard it on the morning news. I'll see if I can trace it back to a reliable source.

The brothers were apparently fairly heavily armed:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/22/u...bing-suspects-hoped-to-attack-again.html?_r=0

Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston.

Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation. The authorities said they believe the suspects had fired roughly 80 rounds in that shootout, in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded, the official said.

No idea why they had a BB gun, though...

I didn't keep any of the autographed 8x10s myself, and the negatives were lost in the move.

No. And no.

My questions were in response to Dan O.'s post, not yours.

You have not questioned whether photos and names were published, far as I can tell, so your answers aren't surprising. He did question both, I think. Hence the question.
