Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

Their uncle said: "“Somebody radicalized them.”

Their aunt is more interesting character.

This is going to be horrible for the family if this is true.

However, she said she spoke to the oldest, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, two years ago when his daughter was born, and then again a year ago.

She said Tamerlan is married to a woman that she described as a Christian, and that he's been staying at home taking care of his daughter while his wife worked.

Today is a sad day to be a newspaper.

I'd think it would be a great day to be a newspaper, and an even greater day to be a weekly news magazine.

You have time to get the story right, develop background, report in-depth.

Of course, I grew up before Twitter. Maybe nobody cares for in-depth analysis any more except dinosaurs like me.

Their uncle said: "“Somebody radicalized them.”

That's what I'm thinking, and it was probably recent. Their known history doesn't seem to show anything much and then they do this.

A mechanic said they were driving expensive cars recently.

Makes me think they came into money, but that makes it a much wider plot and I'm not willing to go there yet.

So Dorner had apparently given some thought to his "laying low" plan. He didn't think he could depend on (or didn't want to involve) friends and family, so he spent a week hiding in an abandoned cabin.

These two appear to have been less thoughtful, depending on "nobody will recognize us" initially, and when that failed, "get some cash from the 7-11 and split"? If the uncle is unsympathetic, the remaining fugitive probably won't turn to family. He wrote that he has no American friends.

If he isn't holding hostages somewhere inside the cordoned-off area, where might he go? Could he turn to the people who are alleged to have radicalized him, or would he be too hot for them to handle? If these two did have a support system, their contacts must be sweating a bit themselves by now.

New car alert from Boston PD

Not only Boston but much of New England is shut down. Amtrak trains northbound in the northeast corridor are terminating in NYC. Stepdaughter who lives on in south shore MA is stuck in DC after a conference, waiting for trains to resume; may be coming here to Philly instead.

For the morbidly curious...Liveleak has a photo that they say is the first suspect's dead body.

I thought i heard MSNBC say that it was confirmed that an accomplice was confirmed to be a student at UMass Dartmouth. Anyone else reporting this?

I heard it as a suspect in the bombing was a student there and took it to mean they were talking about the 19 year old, but it wasn't made clear.

Watched an interview with their Aunt Maret from Toronto on the TV during lunch.

CNN Reporter: Are they devout, devout Muslims?

Lady looked at her like she was nuts.

Oh man...CNN quoting UMass Dartmouth students as spotting Suspect 2 this week, after the bombing. He was on campus the same time as my daughter -- scary thought.

Some worthwhile journalistic input from the BBC...

Boston bombing: How internet detectives got it very wrong
Big deal. So a couple of people got their 15 minutes of fame for something they didn't do. Maybe they'll be able to parlay that into a spot on Celebrity Apprentice, and maybe they won't. At the end of the day, they have an interesting story to tell, and were hardly more inconvenienced any more than the people who had to wait on the Amtrak train for over an hour because of a "suspicious package" in Burbank.
