Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

I'm going to join the chorus and guess domestic, probably far right wing.

My guess as well.

I'm just speculating, though. I think it's highly likely that this was a only partially realized cluster attack by right wing domestic terrorists who probably cooked the idea up around the last election, and that the date and location(s) were anything but coincidental.

Agree.

I hope they find the bastards who did this and nail to them wall, show trial style.

This. ^^^^

Today is Patriot's Day in Mass.

Perhaps some right-wing freak is trying to send a political message.

Just so you don't get even more worried, apparently they have shut down mobile phone service in case of any remote detonations.

Linkey? I've not heard that. From what I understand, it's simply an overloaded system, much like after 9/11

My heart goes out to those in Boston affected by this.

The really sick thing about this (and make no mistake, the whole thing is utterly sick) is that the bombs were placed at the finish line of a marathon. When people are exhausted and at their weakest. Just disgusting. Watching the videos; you can see people run back toward the source of the explosion to help. These folks are absolute heroes. To go toward the source of an explosion that just happened and not knowing if there might be more is so brave and so selfless.

I am worried that the fear that some of the right wing has against Obama's government is being equalled on this thread with fears of the right wing's desire for violence. That is, I think both are unfounded, and this tragedy will have to do with neither.

You have to qualify for Boston, so there aren't many 4-hour runners in the field. In theory, the only 4 hour runners should be women over 50 and men over 60. Obviously, reality isn't a theory and the finish line still had lots of people around though, if you look at the video. One runner, right in the middle of the road, went down like he was shot. Nasty.

You have to qualify to run with an official number. However, they do let unqualified runners run as "back of the pack" runners. That's what I did in the dozen or so times I ran. There are many thousands of runners who do this every year, most of which probably don't break four hours. I once ran with a friend of mine, a first-timer, and we ran 4:09 -- exactly the time that appears on the timer when the bomb went off. There were still many thousands of runners behind us when we finished. And they're reporting that something like 26K people ran in today's race, more than double when we ran that time.

A proper antipersonnel bomb throws shrapnel. It does not need a huge charge.

I doubt this one had shrapnel built in... the injuries would have been far, far, far worse. I don't think the intent was to kill... bombs too small, lack of shrapnel... I think the objective was terror.

This could have been far, far worse than what it was. But regrettably, it doesn't look like it's over yet. Given the other bombs found.

This may seem trivial but....

The clock I saw at the finish line was at 4:06. CNN reported half the field had finished. There were about 28,000 runners I think.

A clip I saw, one runner was just setting his foot down on the big yellow finish line when BOOM! Imagine what went through his mind?

After the explosions the police stopped the race. They ordered people to stop. I even feel sorry for those people. Y'know, they train so hard, put so much into it...

Stinks, really does.

I mentioned it before, but you might have missed it:

Boston, "tea party" and tax day.

Coincidental, ya think? Could be I suppose...
