Ann Coulter: "Kill Meghan McCain first"

Of course, she said it was a "joke", but the McCains don't seem to see the humor in it, since, like many public figures, they get death threats regularly.

Ann Coulter remarked that if “Republican senators need to have a member of their families killed for them to support the Democrats’ gun proposals” they should “start with Meghan McCain.”
The line was a reference to MSNBC host Martin Bashir’s question to Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings about a possible filibuster on a Senate gun proposal. Bashir asked the Democratic congressman (rhetorically, it should go without saying) if a personal experience with violence was really necessary for Republicans to support stricter gun laws:

“But Congressman,” Bashir said, “is that what needs to happen to move these senators to stop threatening a filibuster? Is that really what needs to happen? That you need to have a member of your family killed in order for you to do what the American people want you to do?”

Does Ann think she's the Jon Stewart of the Right? This isn't the first time she's had to explain how something tremendously unfunny that she's said was supposed to be humorous. From her vicious insults of the wives of 9-11 heroes to her desire to kill or convert all Arabs, she has the worst comedy timing in the entire world. Maybe she should try another occupation.

No, of course it wasn't serious. It is simply about as tasteless as a person can be. Even Andrew Dice Clay would be embarrassed to tell "jokes" that offensive.

That said, I have some sympathy for her comments about the Jersey Girls, whose husbands were not heroes of 9-11 (they were office workers in the Twin Towers). Three of the four (Breitweiser seems to have gone on with her life) have become 9-11 Truther morons.

I'm not sure how anyone can expect Ann Coulter to say anything funny. She's a woman.

Any subject can be funny, and in the right room with the right delivery, that comment gets a laugh. I'm sure if Ann Coulter called someone a "dumb dildo" a dozen times in three minutes, people here would say it's not the least bit funny (but if Stewart says it, it's another example of TDS elevating public discourse). The problem with Coulter is that she always plays to the same (demented) crowd, which makes her hack.

I remember how, shortly after the Colorado theater shooting, someone posted a clip of Dane Cook saying (paraphrase), "the movie sucks, don't see it. Half-way through people were like, 'just ******* shoot me.'" It got a laugh in the club... because it was funny (and I've despised Dane Cook since before it was really cool). But then everyone started quoting it and saying, "I don't think it's at all amusing."

From what I've seen, Meghan McCain is an airhead. I'd much rather do coke with Ann Coulter.

I think her publicist loves her for stuff like this. She probably got booked for twelve more speaking engagements within an hour after this utterance.

I hate when she does blatantly insane things like this because it takes attention away from her truly obvious obscenities like that book that she's been flogging, in which she is blatantly rewriting the history of the USA and very condescendingly telling the darkies that the GOP are really their friends, not the Democrats.

On your first point, I would note that she also told the GOP that they needed to nominate Chris Christie or lose in 2012.

On your second point, well crap. Does it always have to be about looks when we talk about politicos? I don't like it when people criticize Chelsea Clinton for her looks. Anne graduated from Cornell (summa cum laude) and got her JD from the University of Michigan where she was the editor of the Michigan Law Review. Meghan McCain? Graduated from Columbia (no mention of honors). Judging by photos I would say that she does fill out a sweater more than Coulter; I am not sure how that matters.
