Merged Continuation Part 2: Discussion of the George Zimmerman case

You mean the lack of broken nose, lacerations, swelling, etc ? That lack of injuries ?

Right, the lack of injuries consistent with the prolonged beating he described. He doesn't need 2 cuts and a busted nose. He needs to show that he didn't lie to the police. That's obvious isn't it?

Dishonest. The word "marginally" is mandatory to include.

ETA: The statements:

"injuries are marginally consistent with Z's account"
"injuries are consistent with Z's account"

...carry two entirely different meanings. If Serino said the former phrase, you should, at all times you reference that quote, be using the former phrase as well.
Gotta agree with you there. And he did it knowingly.

BTW: Did you know the word "marginally" is a subset of the word "consistent"?

I bring you the first, best new gem of the fresh thread:

So to say that serino said his injuries consistent with his story, is accurate.
That's trophy material.

Dude 1: "Man, Jimi Hendrix is by far the greatest guitar player who ever lived!"
Dude 2: "Welll....he's alright..."

Alright is a subset of amazing.

Therefore, both dudes agree that Jimi Hendrix is the best who ever lived.

Logic is easy!!!

...

Serino: injuries are consistent
...

and he did it again!

That's the kind of thing a new reader to the thread would look at and say....hmmm, well that's pretty underhanded to leave out a significant word like that...

As for myself, I kinda like that when people read my posts they know they can trust what they read, and perceive me as honest broker.

But that's just me.

Because Zimmerman claimed he smothered his bloody face with both hands. And magically there's none of that blood anywhere.

You're assuming GZ's face, where the only source of significant blood was from his nose, was just as bloody laying on his back as it was when the photo was taken of him, upright, in the back of the squad car, many minutes after the injury was sustained.

There's no proof of when the blood from GZ's nose started flowing out of it, onto his mustache area, etc.

Uh....flashlight man?

First words out of GZ's mouth: "Do I have blood on my face?"

Whoa. That guy on the stand is gonna rock Zimmerman's world.

Wait, I thought the blood smear on his cheek was proof that Trayvon had smothered him. So who made the smears? And so I get this straight, George didn't bleed at all during the fight, but instead only bled afterwards? And we can then dismiss that he caused his own bleeding...how?

And yet again, you fail to answer the question.

If it was so obvious, as you claim, why did serino write:

"Investigative findings show the physical injuries displayed by George Michael Zimmerman are marginally consistent with a life-threatening violent episode as described by him." ?

Who knows why he wrote that, given how it appears that Zimmerman's injuries are inconsistent with his story, and the minor nature of those injuries are not consistent with a life threatening assault.

Because "marginally consistent" means "barely making it". And since Serino is neither a doctor nor a juror, the jury will be able to form their own conclusions about how that picture matches the severe beating George described. Where do you imagine this is going for you?

Maybe he wrote it because as a detective and someone who investigated the case, he could see the injuries are consistent, as opposed to people sitting on the internet who don't investigate actual crimes and are just looking at pictures ?

Are you simply dismissing Serinos statement as untrue ?

I swear to god my brain is hurting from the turns in pretzel logic here.

That truly made me just laugh out loud a good one.

OK...out for now...thanks for the laugh. lololol

Laugh all you like, and use as many animated smilies as you like... doing so won't budge the truth of what TheL8Elvis said one inch.

The word "marginally" here is basically interchangeably with the word "somewhat" or perhaps "fairly" if someone says "yea his wounds are somewhat consistent with what he describes" or "yea his wounds are fairly consistent with what he describes" nobody would deny that the person is definitely implying that they, personally would have expected the wounds to be more dramatic... no doubt, Serino is saying that.

However, he's STILL saying that they are consistent with what George described.

To put it another way, when someone describes the events George describes, there's a range of wounds you'd expect them to come out of that with. Everyone here who is anti-GZ has planted their flag firmly in the upper end of that range because it enables them to scoff more, and dismiss GZ as a liar more, and mock what he had done to him that night by Trayvon.

But there is also a lower end of that same range of wounds you'd expect from what he describes. That appears to be where the wounds he did receive could accurately be placed. I wouldn't' say the absolute bottom of that range, but closer to it than the top, certainly. His wounds were in the lower end of the range you'd expect, from what he describes. BUT STILL WITHIN THAT RANGE. As the police detective, Serino, stated when he used the words "marginally consistent."

So again, laugh all you like, but TheL8Elvis is 100% correct when he says that Serino said the wounds were consistent with what GZ described.

I can have a friend come up to me and tell me about this nasty wipe out he had while he was riding his mountain bike, and then ask him to show me the wound, and if he shows me some elbow and knee scrapes which don't look THAT bad, I might think to myself or even say to him "I would've expected worse" without that entailing that I think he didn't experience the wipe out he describes. Because I understand, as anyone does, that something like a bike wipe out is a very fluid, hectic thing with physical objects in motion at high speed and it's very unpredictable. I could even believe that my friend was playing up what happened and how bad the wipe out was a bit for effect, or to impress upon me how great his peril was... without that implying that I think he's lying outright. I could still believe that what happened is roughly what he describes, but that maybe he put a little bit of dramatic flourish on how he describes it.

What's the alternative to what TheL8Elvis said, btw? He said "marginally consistent" still falls under the heading of "consistent" so the only alternative I know of is that it doesn't fall under it... is that what you're arguing? You basically MUST be arguing that to dismissively laugh at him.

In that case, what does "marginally" do to the word "consistent" if it doesn't do what we've said? Which is that it acts as a qualifier.

If you're saying it doesn't act as a qualifier, then you must be saying it acts to completely negate the word "consistent" ? If that's not what you're arguing, then tell me so. Because laughing it off, as you've done, seems to imply that pretty strongly. And if that is what you're implying, you really could not be more wrong. Maybe we should warm up some laughing smilies to direct at you?

Because "marginally consistent" means "barely making it".

Yes, we have had that discussion. And do you see the key part there:"barely making it". No matter barely, it made it.

There is a binary here. Either his injuries are consistent, or they are not.

Serino said they were.

And since Serino is neither a doctor nor a juror,

And you are which ?

Serino is an experienced detective that can use that experience and investigatev skill to draw a useful conclusion of whether stories match facts. That's pretty much his job description

the jury will be able to form their own conclusions about how that picture matches the severe beating George described. Where do you imagine this is going for you?
