Continuation: Discussion of the George Zimmerman case

I'll let the readers decide what you meant by this.

We can also let the readers wonder why you'd rather debate semantics about whether I said school or not rather than the fact I referred to the jersey number to indicate what his position was and that position is one of speed and agility.

I don't pursue semantics or splitting hairs just to get ownage on an individual poster on the internet. I debate the issues. I will concede if you got the impression he was on his high school football team, that is factually incorrect but I did not state that.

Please do provide an argument that Martin lacked the speed and agility to evade George Zimmerman at will, as indicated by his athletic participation, his age, and height and weight, whenever you are ready to do so.

I'll be the first to admit he seemed like a busybody, even a wannabe cop, you know like those minimum wage security guard guys who live in their parent's garage

I would agree with this, largely. I don't think he was nearly as bad of a version of that sort of person as I've seen elsewhere, but I do agree with the broad strokes of that characterization. Busybody, perhaps overly interested in the NW thing... desperate to view himself as being on the same team as the cops.

I just don't believe he tried to apprehend anyone or come into direct contact with TM. I don't think he was that brave or that foolish, even with a gun.

And if there really was just a big misunderstanding, and he was completely off the mark about who Trayvon was (which I don't think he was, but for the sake of argument...) then the proper way for this whole misunderstanding to be resolved that night was through dialogue, or through just avoiding direct contact.

The proper way to resolve the misunderstanding did not involve anyone getting punched, mounted, restrained, having their head hit against the ground, or screaming in terror.

But "coordinator" wasn't CCW badass enough.

Still waiting for that. "Execution style"?

How else do you describe it if GZ was no longer being beaten because TM let go and stood up, or because GZ stood up ? Gangnam style ?

She already admitted she thinks GZ shot TM execution style after he stood up.

That's odd.

The arm in that .gif is never straight enough to account for the lack of angle in the bullet path. The bullet traveled from front to back with no angle at all. Not possible in a prone position.

Huh.

I don't see anything there that describes this "She already admitted she thinks GZ shot TM execution style after he stood up" babble.

Maybe I missed it? "Execution style"?

Where is that?

Did you see some of the other gems from that diatribe?

I liked the wiki link to the Peruvians in the Olympics...

.

!

I think it's funny that I just now, and nobody seems to have noticed yet either, got the irony of the fact that Peruvians seem to make horrible runners...
but seem quite adept at shooting.

You didn't say that? They're your words. No semantics.

well that's great. what was your point, since I did not claim he was on his high school football team?

Trayvon Martin had been either a running back or an end on his football team, judging by the number on his jersey. In an inner city school the competition for a slot on a football team is intense. He would have been in the top couple of percentile in speed among his peers.

He still looked to be in perfectly good shape for running.

Please explain how you deduce his running ability from his looks?

It is entirely possible for someone lose fitness quite quickly. He may have been good at short, explosive running, but ran out of steam after 50 mtrs of so. A lot of athletes are like that. Yet you can tell from his looks that he could run rings around George. How?

And notice, no denial. Just saying.

Those are two separate issues. Please don't make up things you think I said to make a point.

I completely understand your frustration with someone inaccurately representing your views or how you've expressed them, and I am coming at this with no preconceptions about what you believe re: this issue.

But now that I've seen it brought up, I'm just genuinely curious, do you think George had his gun out prior to the altercation?

Thanks in advance if you're willing to answer.

He won't try the "gun in hand" thing; he knows this has already been tried and failed.

He did try to evade him.

Twice.

By GZ's own words.

On foot or while George was driving? Do you really believe Martin was ever trying to get away from Zimmerman and to the safety of home? I don't think so.
The point is it's been suggested Martin was justified in assaulting Zimmerman because he felt scared for his life, as in Zimmerman had somehow cornered him and he had no choice but to attack him.

I think that is laughable.

I won't dispute Martin tried to evade Zimmerman because he didn't like being hassled.

I don't know. I consider it unlikely, that's the best answer I can give you.

And thank you for the courtesy you extend in many of your posts. Makes it much easier to have reasonable(!) discussions.

So Trayvon wasn't on his high school team and therefore didn't beat out the top 98 percent of all athletes for his spot? At least tell me he still had MMA skills and eagle eyesight!

Just in case you guys are actually implying that genetics play no role in running ability (which would strike me as an odd attitude to find on a board like this...) here's a Forbes article for your perusal:

The DNA Olympics -- Jamaicans Win Sprinting "Genetic Lottery"

The trends are eye opening: Athletes of African ancestry hold every major male running record, from the 100 meters to the marathon.

This is obviously a huge diversion from the main topic and I am not saying that just because Trayvon had African ancestry he was a great runner, I merely felt compelled to respond to this "pearl clutching" and "couch fainting" going on in response to batvette mentioning that genetics do play a part in running ability. They do, period.
