Indiana's Fall Backwards

WildCat, is Illinois as a whole the problem or is it just the Democratic Machine in greater Chicago. (I grew up in Illinois but left before I got interested in politics. Um, left for Indiana.) :)

By any objective standard, Illinois is swirling the drain. Worst credit rating of any state. Run by family dynasties. An AG who says it's not her job to investigate corruption. Our last 2 governors in prison... oops Ryan just got out, so only 1 now.

& rather than take the hit you'll go down with it. K.

I went to school with Mike Pence and knew him well. he was a dim-bulb and a self-righteous dishonest hack. If you asked me then, of all your classmates, who would you least trust in a position of power, he'd be in the top 5.

I remember when he first starting dating his future wife. He talked about how he had to "forgive' her transgression. Which was what? She'd gone on a date with another guy. Not "slept with" or anything, just a regular "let's go see a movie then grab a bite to eat" date. Total creep.

Well I wouldn't want my property wandering around without me either.

Oh, wait, she wasn't a goat, she was a human being?

The goat is for special occasions only.

I did not vote for Mike Pence as I did not get a good impression of him during the campaign, but I had no idea he was as bad as this. The other items in the OP are baggage that bother me and that I communicate to my reps about, but which, other than the abortion bit, don't make me want to flee the state.

Much as I have disliked some of the Republican viewpoints within the state over the last few years, I have to give the last governor (Mitch Daniels) high marks. He really did have the state situated to weather the economic crash better than most others.

With the country Progressing forward in the public opinion, and somewhat also in law, Indiana is taking the polar opposite approach. So far...:

1) School vouchers: ANY school; private and public, charter and non-charter, gets tax money. Teach Creationism? We don't care.

At last. A state embracing sanity. Especially concerning school vouchers. No different than any college loan or grant going not to the school but the student. And if that school teaches creationism, they just might be right. After all, if God is not the author of creation, then who is?????

You misspelled insanity.

I have several friends who were his frat brothers back in the day and they keep me updated with "Oh God, did you hear what he did now?!" stores.

I remember when Pence first ran for Congress back in the 90s. (1994?) His campaign (he lost, FWIW) featured an ad with some guy dressed in a stereotypical "Arab" costume. The ad managed to be both dishonest and racist. Pence wrote a little story about it for an alumni magazine the next year in which he apologized for the ad, but claimed that the Democrats were to blame for his running it.

D'oh!

I need to take out my contacts, eyes are tired.

Take care of those peepers yo.

I didn't see anyhting to that effect in the OP (aside from the stupid abortion thing). Just a state actually trying to improve the lives of their citizens, while here our pols screw the citizens to enrich themselves and their relatives and cronies.

The only thing that can honestly be argued to actually approve the lives of their citizens is the law mandating armed guards at schools. The rest are stridently ideological that have no record of actually making people's lives better.

Is there a record of armed guards at schools making people's lives better?
