DHS Preparing For Civil War In The US?

Wow, that article is full of crazy. I like the part where he quotes a paranoid survivalist blog's hysterical claim that DHS has bought 2700 tanks which "ARE BEING SEEN ON U.S. STREETS all across America" (when, in reality, what was purchased were new chassis' for already-existing AFVs intended for the Marine Corps called "Mine Resistant Ambush Protected" vehicles returned from Iraq and Afghanistan because of the troop drawdown in both countries, and the purchase was done by the US Navy).

Which, I guess, explains why this article has been reposted in its entirety at Prison Planet and at infowars.com.

Actually DHS does have 16 armored vehicles for use in serving high risk warrants.

Which makes sense to me.

The DHS armored vehicles came up at Delusional Idiots Forum (of course) a while ago. I found pictures of as many of them as I could:

Each of the vehicles belongs to a DHS/ICE region, for serving (as mentioned upthread) high-risk warrants. Thus, we have about 20 armored (but not weaponized) vehicles scattered across the continental US.

Immigration Control & Enforcement purchased 575 million bullets in 2008, during the Bush administration.

Why did they need that many bullets? What was Bush planning to do???

;)

Funny that was five years ago, and now ICE just released a five year contract for the purchase of 450 million bullets.

When even the NRA thinks your conspiracy theory is nonsense (and remember, this is the same bunch that thinks gun registration databases are dangerous because they might be hacked by the Chinese or handed over to the Mexican government), you might want to consider the fact that you just might be needlessly overreacting a little.

As most gun owners will agree, skepticism of government is healthy. But today, there are more than enough actual threats to the Second Amendment to keep gun owners busy. With two key Supreme Court decisions hanging by a one-vote margin, the Justice Department deeply involved in a cover-up of a disastrous Mexican gun smuggling operation, and President Obama touting a ban on popular semi-automatic firearms, there is no need to invent additional threats to our rights.

This one paragraph should be copied and pasted in every single gun fan/nut/weirdo site on the internet, every single day, until they get it through their thick skulls.

How about these aqueducts we got from the Romans? Should we bring those too?
Go ahead. Your bridges are less prone to falling down than the USAian one anyway..............
:D

They're not even armed. Even New Orleans has a machine gun armed armoured car.

Exactly. If they had painted them white and put the word "Brinks" on them we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Also, while researching those I found that Phoenix or someplace has an armed tactical vehicle and Tucson has a tracked SWAT vehicle.

4/17/2008 - 375,000,000 rounds of .40 S&W CALIBER AMMUNITION (180 grain)

12/19/2008 - 200,000,000 rounds of .40 S&W Caliber Ammunition (135 grain)

That's just the .40 bullets that ICE bought in 2008, not any of the 9mm or shotgun or revolver ammunition or anything.

Actually, those, like the current contracts are "indefinite Delivery, indefinite quantity" contracts.

The numbers are the maximum that could be purchased under them, not the actually number that was purchased.

I think the point is, these sorts of contracts are perfectly standard. They weren't a warning flag that Bush was planning a civil war then, and they're not a warning flag that Obama is planning a civil war now.

But of course, this won't stop the "This Time For SURE!!!?!?!?!" idiots from spewing about it. And five years from now, we'll be having the same conversation when some other government agency signs a contract, and the idiots claim that President Obama'sSuccessor is planning a civil war.
