So what? They've got a nice Temple in the Memphis, TN (USA) area too, but not nearly as big and plush as Bellevue Baptist Church in the same area. I guess Southern Baptist xtianity trumps Mormonism. :)

Amen!! The Mormon church makes a lot of noise about their welfare program and how much they help the poor. Since they don't keep open records it's impossible to know how much money they actually spend in that respect, but I read last year that using the figures that they occasionally quote in relation to their welfare program, it appears that they spend less than 1% of their yearly income on welfare programs. This is a church that has no expenditures for their missionary work, their organization on a local level, etc. All of that is strictly volunteer. But with all the money they rake in (required 10% tithe to be a member in good standing) they can't be doing more for the poor? Screw them. :mad:

I ran into a Jehovah's Witness publication, in which I guess what they believe to be some "big questions", were discussed. I wonder if you could give us your take on the answers from a dyed-in-the-wool Mormon perspective.

1. Does god really care about us?

2. Will war and suffering ever end?

3. What happens to us when I die?

4. Is there any hope for the dead?

5. How can I pray and be heard by God?

6. How can I find happiness in life?

Then, we can compare our outlooks on these questions and learn about each other. Sound good?

But, please Janadele, I would like to hear YOUR thoughts, not some copy and pasted mormon site. Thank you.
 
Mormon Square in Salt Lake City is not that impressive after you have seen Canterbury Cathedrial,Notre Dame,and St Peter's.
Hell, I would even say that the National Cathedrial in DC is more impressive.
 
dudalb, There are many wonders of the world both ancient and modern, and I have seen many of them including Canterbury Cathedral, Notre Dame, St Peters to which you refer. None of them take away from the beauty of Temple Square in Salt Lake City and most importantly the spirituality of the area.

Nobody's saying they take away from the beauty of Temple Square; only that he finds the others more impressive.

Yes, there is a point. There might be people reading this thread (whether posting in it or not) who are looking for a religious home. They can compare and contrast LDS with JW. But if you're not interested in telling us what you (and by extension, the LDS Church) believe, why are you here?

The problem is that generally speaking, you don't answer. You copy and paste Mormon scriptures or LDS talks that you think might address the question at hand. deaman specifically asked for your opinions on the questions s/he asked. That's the point of a discussion board.
