Merged Bigfoot: The Patterson Gimlin Film - Part 4

I see no reason for the suit to still exist and even if it was brought to light the true believers would hand wave it away like they do with the wooden stompers.

^This. I would've been gobsmacked if "the" suit had materialized. If Patterson and DeAtley were actually making money on this thing in the late '60s, I think they were smart enough to figure out that the one thing that could expose the ruse would be if someone found the suit. The only way to make sure that wouldn't happen would be to destroy the suit.

I'm hard-pressed to come up with a scenario that would prove this hoax to the footers. Maybe what might do it would be a filmed confession from Roger that included footage of him actually making the film with Bob, and I presume, Bob.

I see no compelling reason to destroy the suit.

Put the suit in a trunk in the attic and just how is someone going to discover it?

I always thought they might have kept the suit as a potential source of additional income. They could make more films. They could freeze it in a block of ice and take it on tour. They could sell it to a private collector or would-be hoaxer. They may have expected the film itself to be a short-lived fad that would quickly dry up as a revenue stream.

Gloves, head, upper and lower. The feet may have been part of the hip wader lower. (although the actor did not leave the footprints that were documented and cast) If we do see the suit at some point it'll be interesting to see how it was constructed with all the estimates out there. I still love the sideways facing knee, and the folds, along with the nice buttock area.

The idea of hipwaders is weird if you axe me. The feet were separate parts of the costume right? So someone had to take some hipwaders then cut off the feet and replace them with costume bigfeet. In which case, why would you use hipwaders in the 1st place? What would be the point? To support the leggings? Hipwaders makes no sense, IMO.

They worked quite well because some people still think they are looking at a real bigfoot with muscle bulges.

Haven't you guys seen Terminator 2? To prevent the development of SkyNet technology, they had to blow the whole building: the T1000 hand, the chip, all the computers and files, etc. It's the only way to be sure.

(I never saw Terminator 3 or 4, so I just assume the whole things wraps up neatly at the end of 2.)

Roger was a lot of things, but "dumb" wasn't one of 'em. Didn't he say once "I'm the worst person this could have happened to"? [paraphrasing] He acknowledged that his prior efforts to find bigfoot, his previous encounter with a bigfoot, and the fact that he was actively trying to make a bigfoot film made him a dubious character to have been successful filming the real thing. If he had had another bigfoot encounter film the fraud would've been even more obvious.

It's worth mentioning that the lack of proof for "Bigfoots" existence doesn't make the film a hoax.

No, the fact that some con men made a hoax film makes the hoax a hoax. Though no Bigfoot is certainly a contributing factor.

Apparently Ketchum (DVM) circling the drain has you grasping at straws.

If there is no reliable evidence that BF even exists, the idea that a known liar actually filmed one becomes highly unlikely.

I wonder how many times an unknown creature was filmed as the very first proof of it's existence?

By a known con man who rented a camera and went out to film said unknown creature.

Actually, the hip wader thing fits very well with what is seen, and what was reported by the only person ever claiming to be in the suit. Even in your gif file that you posted, notice the ankle area. Looks just like a hip wader folding. So does the sideways knee, and all of the folds/x's around that area. Like nothing in nature. The "hip wader thing" is the most likely scenario I've seen.

Hip waders makes perfect sense. They couldve been easily trimmed, and sliced up the side a little then tightened to make it contoured to the leg more. (then sewn or glued to desired position) A while back someone posted a video on youtube showing some flaws around the ankle/foot area of the suit. It appears in those videos that the bottom of the suit had a cut or rip that was vertical around that area of the fur and it seemed you could see the two pieces moving independently. I'll look for the video. On an interesting note, Bill Munns would not/did not send me the earliest section of the walk footage in the high res scans. (the most early frames, when the feet are most visible) I really wanted that section also, for identifying some other features on the film site. (it may show that flaw well)

ETA: found it.

Heironimus has made several comments over the years about it. He has said something to the effect of the legs that felt like big rubber boots that went to the waist. (not his exact words probably, someone can quote it from interviews)

Have seen these used as "contradictions" in his testimony about the film/suit.

The legs felt like hip boots, wading boots they went up to the waist
Wading boots they came straight up to the hips
legs that felt like big rubber boots that went to the waist

I don't know the accuracy of those statements. Maybe someone can find a youtube where he talks about it someplace.
