Founder of Sea Shepherd Arrested in Germany

Doesn't matter. that's what you do. his methods are atrocious, his seamanship suspect and his responsiblity as a captain laughable.

and dude, the Ady Gil was too underway they went right in front of that ship. to disagree is a lie and you know it.

I frankly, could care less about the bloody whales. Maybe they should spend their energy helping, you know, human beings? Instead of endangering them for animals.....

But that wouldn't give them smug righteous indignation would it?

And his results?

So you want to play he said / she said? Fine. Have at it. Doesn't make you right.

Geeze, ya think? Some people don't much care for the destruction caused by other humans. I can't blame them one bit. In some cases, this being one of them, I'd rather see the whalers sitting on the bottom of the ocean than the whales on a dinner plate. YMMV.

Spoiler Alert:

SSCS was doing this stuff way before the Whale Wars TV made them popular.

the truth comes out, you think animals are better than humans and would rationalize the massacre of humans to save the bloody whales.... you are a fanatic, and i don't debate with fanatics.

enjoy the amusing life you've chosen.

the most important ship, the 8,000 ton factory ship nisshin maru, would take years to replace. It really is a factory, it takes the whole whales and processes them into frozen, finished product, ready for market. ...

I think you will find that the Japanese are complying with international law with respect to whaling.

Then why is their refueling ship, a non-ice class ship, below 60 degrees, illegally?

Why did they damage their own refueling ship in this latest incident of childish high-seas road rage, destroying their life raft?

And why is the SEA SHEPHARD the only ships escorting that refueling ship out of dodge, making sure they're OK?

I love this part too...

the truth comes out,

As if I were hiding it and you got a "gotcha" moment....

Well, a fuel ship went below the 60 degree mark, which is illegal. Why not intercept them and force them back into compliance?

From your terminology I can tell that you are quoting a non authoritative source probably Greenpeace.
How do you think McMurdo and all the other stations on Antarctic run without refuelling from tankers ?

The thing to watch in the Andy Gill collision is the wake of the Andy Gill.
They attempted to accelerate and went under the bow.
Deserve all they got

The Ady Gil collision was ruled on by no less than two different maritime courts (Australia and New Zealand) The AU courts said that their investigation of the collision was inconclusive as to who was at fault while the NZ courts found both ships to be at fault, the whalers for coming too close and the Ady Gil for failing to take avoiding maneuvers and for an inattentive helmsman who didn't realize the danger that they were in until seconds before the collision.

Meanwhile Watson himself is on record as saying:

"One only needs to watch the video to see that Bethune negligently stopped his ship in the path of the whaling vessel and it was cut in half"

In response to the current lawsuit being brought by the owner of the Ady Gil against the Sea Shepherds and Paul Watson.

I'm sure the distinction comes from refueling ship-to-ship. Not an easy thing to find on teh googlez.

Apparently at sea fueling is not allowed by treaty below 60s however a fuel ship being below 60s is not illegal in and of itself as long as it's not carrying heavy fuel oil. That's only because since 2011 there are supposed to be no ships at all below 60s that carry or are using heavy fuel oil.

The question I would ask is why the whalers couldn't head north ~50 miles to refuel in waters where it is allowed. My guess would be that the Sea Shepherds were blocking them by staying north of their position with the intention of making them run out of fuel. I'm also guessing that it's not illegal to refuel using diesel fuel when it becomes a safety of ship issue (running out of fuel is most certainly a safety of ship issue no matter where you are).

ETA: Panama is NOT a signatory member of the treaty and as such it was not illegal for them to be there even with heavy fuel oil.

That link, from 2006, says nothing about going below 60.

The new rules concerning using heavy fuels (and I believe refueling in general) didn't take effect until 2011 if I'm reading it correctly so it doesn't matter.

Who's complaining?

I'm simply stating a fact. And yes, I'm well aware of SSCS's propensity for stupidity and putting lives on the line, and yes, I still support them both emotionally and financially, and I always will so long as shark finning and whaling in protected areas take place.
I will NEVER stop praising SSCS for attacking. Never.

That is unless or until an actual government stops illegal activities in their waters. If Australia would nut up, we wouldn't have this problem.

What other vigilante activity do you support? Or are vigilantes only OK when at sea?

If someone engages in vigilante activity, because they think the government is too soft on burglars/vandals/drunk drivers/etc and goes around attacking them, do you reflect "oh well, I guess that if the government had done more to crack down on that type of offender then they wouldn't feel the need to do that. So it's understandable." Or would you tell them not to take the law into their own hands no matter how strongly they felt about it?

If I had the resources I would pay an assault team to blow all their ships up out in the middle of the ocean. The guy is a menace, a terrorist and a pirate. he should be dealt with in the same manner is the Somali pirates. With no quarter.

Whilst I'd have a general sense of satisfaction if Japan sent a warship down there and just sunk the Clowns of the Sea once and for all, it would be almost as satisfying if somebody funded some sort of "direct action" group that used all the Clowns own methods and justifications, only against them.

They could take a documentary film crew along and do a show called "Whale Wars Wars"!

Can't think of any off the top of my head.

And I (and many, many others) would be equally satisfied at watching the whaling ships sink to the bottom.

In some cases yes. There is no justification for the slaughter of whales, they are NOT needed for food, and most Japanese don't eat whale anymore and wouldn't miss it. Even those that do still eat it don't need it.

I'm quite happy is people shoot poachers of Tigers, Elephants, Lions, Rinos, and other animals too, and that is what the Japanese whalers are quasi-legal poachers.
