Are you aware of how many times that phrase has been spoken and yet, we are still here.
Living Prophets speak of today, excerpts from Stake Conference General Session Talk 3 February 2013:
"Brothers and sisters, the test has come. It is now upon us... “we are in the count down.” You and I were held back for this special time to prepare the earth for the return of the Saviour... The Scriptural and modern-day Prophesies we have read and heard all throughout our lives are no longer Prophesies to us – they are now our living reality... If there was ever a time in the history of the world for a people to wake up, pay attention, and get it together – now is that time... President Packer recently said: “I am sorry to tell you that it will not get better...I know of nothing in the history of the Church, or in the history of the world to compare with our present circumstances. Nothing happened in Sodom and Gomorrah which exceeds in wickedness and depravity that which surrounds us now. Words of profanity, vulgarity, and blasphemy are heard everywhere. Unspeakable wickedness and perversion were once hidden in dark places; now they are in the open, and even accorded legal protection. At Sodom and Gomorrah these things were localised. Now, they are spread across the world... " The moral, economic, and political conditions of the world will not, overall, get better... let us not kid ourselves about what is really going on. Any improvement is only temporary, and the conditions we have experienced over the last 5 years will eventually and certainly return, and even get worse... Each of us has our agency and we are free to act for ourselves. We are agents unto ourselves and each of us is free to take what I say as he or she will. You may choose to disagree with me. You may even choose to ignore me, but I have been impressed by the Spirit to say what I must say."

Specifically, which scriptures "we have herad all our lives", are now realities please?

Smith Said "the hour is nigh and day soon at hand" back in 1830. Has Jesus' space ship blown a flux capacitor or been caught in interstellar traffic?

Count down? Really? When did the count start? What is the interval between...ah...beats? And when, exactly, is it expected to reach "Go"?

You and I were held back for this special time to prepare the earth for the return of the Saviour...

What is special about this time?

The Scriptural and modern-day Prophesies we have read and heard all throughout our lives are no longer Prophesies to us – they are now our living reality...

Explain? Which of your scriptures and prophesies are reality now? And reality for whom, exactly? Are these new conditions worldwide? Only noticeable to LDS? Only applicable to Australians?

If there was ever a time in the history of the world for a people to wake up, pay attention, and get it together – now is that time...

Ughm...your previous sentences make it sound like it might be a bit late?

President Packer recently said: “I am sorry to tell you that it will not get better...

What won't?

I know of nothing in the history of the Church, or in the history of the world to compare with our present circumstances.

Again...what is different now?

Nothing happened in Sodom and Gomorrah which exceeds in wickedness and depravity that which surrounds us now. Words of profanity, vulgarity, and blasphemy are heard everywhere. Unspeakable wickedness and perversion were once hidden in dark places; now they are in the open, and even accorded legal protection. At Sodom and Gomorrah these things were localised. Now, they are spread across the world... "

Huh??? People have been griping about the "wickedness and depravity of the world" since the dawn of humanity. Profanity? Vulgarity? Blasphemy? These are not new ideas, and they aren't getting any worse; if anything, the world is becoming more and more respectful and more sensitive to other's values and beliefs. Not less so.

The moral, economic, and political conditions of the world will not, overall, get better... let us not kid ourselves about what is really going on.

The moral conditions are already better than they were 200 years ago. We've abolished slavery, made it a crime to beat your spouse and children, done away with cruel and unusual punishments for convicted criminals, and most countries have even enacted laws against cruelty to animals.

The economic conditions have done nothing but improve worldwide, too. Around the globe, many peoples who were living in huts with grass roofs now reside in relative luxury with indoor plumbing and electricity. Air travel has made it possible to deliver medicines and professional care to the remotest corners. Basic sanitation and vaccines have nearly abolished illnesses that were capable of wiping out entire villiages before.

Politics...the political climate depends on the nutcases in office. But as time goes by even that is improving. Now, with a few clicks of the mouse one can research a candidate's background and see where they stand on almost every issue they might face.

Any improvement is only temporary, and the conditions we have experienced over the last 5 years will eventually and certainly return, and even get worse...

 Any improvement to what, exactly? And what conditions we've experienced? Who is we? Everyone on the planet? LDS? Australians?

Each of us has our agency and we are free to act for ourselves. We are agents unto ourselves and each of us is free to take what I say as he or she will. You may choose to disagree with me. You may even choose to ignore me, but I have been impressed by the Spirit to say what I must say."

Well, okay then.

Wait.... What did you say?

"[Osiris shall be brought in]to the great pool of Khonsu, and likewise [the Osiris Hor, justified] born of Taykhebyt, justified, after his two hands have been clasped to his heart. The Document of Breathing which <Isis> made shall (also) be buried, which is written on both the inside and outside of it, (and wrapped) in royal linen, being placed <under> his left arm near his heart, while the bearer of his coffin works on its outside..."

Yes but what about the rude words and fornication and ..... the buggery!!'!?

You may even choose to ignore me, but I have been impressed by the Spirit to say what I must say."

Depends on the spirit. Did he take it with ice, as a Martini, or just with water? He seems to be such an arrogant self centred prick, that he expects air to part in front of him when he enters a room, and bows when he hears thunder clap.

"I am so important I am" seems to be his meme.

What about 'em? Really...rude words hurt feelings, to be sure. But they don't compare to being burned at the stake or even stapped into the ducking chair.

Fornication? Has there ever been a time or place where that didn't happen? Oh yeah...the virgin Mary...can't forget her...or that gorgeous, brown-eyed Angel that loved her and left.

Buggery? Has there ever been a time or place where that didn't occur? It might've been kept a bigger secret, but it's always been with us.

Seems to me this is true:
I know of nothing in the history of the Church, or in the history of the world to compare with our present circumstances.
Yet, it has been true every single day since the Earth started spinning and will be true tomorrow and the next day and the next ..... It's true only because it is meaningless.

But this is the crux of it:
You and I were held back for this special time to prepare the earth for the return of the Saviour...
I'm special. You're special. The rest of them are just a bunch of scuzzbuckets. This is the core of, at least, the Abrahamic religions.

We live at a time when there is the least amount of violence in our history. That's a fact. Steven Pinker on the Myth of Violence

  • Common people in modern liberal Democracies have more freedom than at anytime in history.
  • We have largely eradicated deadly diseases like polio, chicken pox, mumps, rubella, etc..
  • We have increased the average life span.
  • We have the technology to make the blind see and the paralyzed walk. We can give voice to the mute and help the deaf to hear. These are miracles and some people piss on them.
  • We have largely eradicated slavery, one of the most vulgar of human activities.
  • We ended segregation.
  • We have improved the lives of women.
What kind of person thinks that life was better when we had slavery, segregation, women didn't have the right to vote, minorities didn't have rights. It was common to lynch black men.

Behold the power of faith. It can convince you that cursing is more vulgar than owning another human being. That sexual freedom is bad but the subjugation and oppression of women is good.

The Book of Abraham is not only important to the Lord, but it is imperative to ourselves as His children in our understanding of the Heavens, where we came from and to where we will progress.

And yet people who believe this know far less about life, the Universe and everything than people who have never laid eyes on the stupid thing.

The hollow Earth theory comes to mind as an example.

Or in the case of those who follow Lucifer... regress.

Or in the case of those who don't believe in imaginary creatures - a clumsy and completely transparent fake.

We are living in the last days of which the Prophecies have spoken.

Does that mean the prophets are finally going to shut the hell up?

Hallelujah!

I stand as I nominate this, sir! Well said!

I see what you did there.

“But let us emphasize that right and wrong, righteousness and sin, are not dependent upon man’s interpretations, conventions and attitudes. Social acceptance does not change the status of an act, making wrong into right. God will not be mocked. His laws are immutable. True repentance is rewarded by forgiveness, but sin brings the sting of death... shall we stand trembling while destruction comes upon us? Or shall we wisely see the handwriting on the wall and profit by the sad experience of the past and return unto the Lord and serve him? " President Spencer W. Kimball
