Thank you for that, I will never understand all that is involved with this DNA stuff, but at least I have a basic understanding thanks to your posts.
As we know no matter how much I learn and how many times we go through this stuff, the outcome will stay the same, No BF ~ No Monkey.

Tim :)

So she and her press release blueberry feeding yahoo make up a new journal, which they laughingly call a science journal, they get some believer to write up some other fluff article, and supposedly the thing comes out tommorrow - cant wait!
And the BFF site is down, to bad i wanted to watch people explode in ecstacy!

So she invented her own journal to publish her own paper. Nice work if you can get it.

Looks like an obscure journal. Althought I can't access the website.

its a bit murky to me right now, I am running down some stuff, but i think it will actually be published in this

the editor appears to be robin Lynn phieffer i believe - the one of blueberry fame. she uses a psudonym, but I think I have seen her use it before, not 100 % sure, but id bet on it!

I think the wikithing is some sort of generic repository for calls to authors, never seen it before,
anyone that wants to help out, lots of authors names to run down andconfirm, and establish their level of expertise, the dozen pHD's seemed to have morphed into alot of Mr and Ms andDr

Thank you for that. I appreciate it. I really do know more now than I did 15 mins ago. And it's now more obvious than ever Melba "Wannabe" Ketchum was simply taking advantage of the 'it's magic' perception of DNA science to confuse and mis-characterize the unglamorous realities of such in her lame attempt at becoming 'rich and famous'. On the con-man's list of favorite cons: Baffle 'em with a subject high enough in sophistication (whether viable or not) that they eagerly allow the con-man himself to decipher it for them.

To wit...
...
A team of scientists will publish their five-year long study of DNA samples from a novel hominin species, commonly known as “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch,” on Friday February 15th, 2013. The results suggest that the legendary Sasquatch is extant in North America and is a human relative that arose approximately 13,000 years ago as a hybrid cross of modern Homo sapiens with an novel primate species.
...
Really? Suggest? And publish it where? To their desktop?

After extensive forensic controls to prevent contamination, mtDNA testing of the Sasquatch samples yielded fully modern human profiles. Sixteen haplotypes indicating 100% homology with modern human mtDNA sequences were observed from 20 completed whole and 10 partial mitochondrial genomes. The human mtDNA results are consistent with prior, unrelated mtDNA tests of purported Sasquatch samples from other laboratories.

So it's human mtDNA and we are just going to pretend it's from bigfoot?

Bigfoot is allegedly part human. And that is on the mother side, so the mtDNA will show modern human (what we are). This can explain why so many Bigfoot samples get passed off as contaminated while in reality many were never contaminated at all.

THREE BIGFOOT GENOMES SEQUENCED IN 5-YEAR DNA STUDY

...
Are these Bigfoots active now in people's fantasy? How do you get DNA from an illusion? How does this work? What drug do I need to take, to believe this nonsense? Morphine was great during my last major operation, but the only illusion I had was the realization of "them" (aka the very polite nurse team) strapping me down, and my last words, "hey, you are tying me down", when I was suppose to be counting back-wards, I was trying to make a joke, and failed.

Where do I sign up to get some of what "they" have?

What?

How many mtDNA tests have been done on samples from bigfoot?

Okay, I'll make it easier.

Prior to Ketchum's now reported 3 results:

How many mtDNA tests have been done on samples purportedly from bigfoot and what were the results?

How many nuclear DNA tests have been done on samples purportedly from bigfoot and what were the results?

Bonus question, how and why did Ketchum end up with only 3 mtDNA "bigfoot" results?

Extra round: How were the submitted samples kept from contamination prior to being received by Ketchum?

Buckle up for hilarity.....DeNovo...a "journal"/website made up by people for whom English seems like a 1.2nd language, with website design by RansomNote.com... possibly by Ketchum herself/her associates. We are at, let's see...oh, yes: Vol 1, no. 1. Obviously a poor imitation of Meldrum's poor online rag.
Did you see the first "article?" Barely coherent. What is/are "speciese?" Is that a language spoken by people from Spece?

well, I, for one, am happy for Justin Smeja, who has a great future in circus sideshows as our first DNA-sequenced bigfoot. I wonder if Ketchum's co-authors are aware of that?

We heard this a while ago. This is going to be quite the fall when it busts open...

http://www.dnadiagnostics.com/press.html

“Our study has sequenced 20 whole mitochondrial genomes and utilized next generation sequencing to obtain 3 whole nuclear genomes from purported Sasquatch samples. The genome sequencing shows that Sasquatch mtDNA is identical to modern Homo sapiens, but Sasquatch nuDNA is a novel, unknown hominin related to Homo sapiens and other primate species. Our data indicate that the North American Sasquatch is a hybrid species, the result of males of an unknown hominin species crossing with female Homo sapiens.

Hominins are members of the taxonomic grouping Hominini, which includes all members of the genus Homo. Genetic testing has already ruled out Homo neanderthalis and the Denisova hominin as contributors to Sasquatch mtDNA or nuDNA. “The male progenitor that contributed the unknown sequence to this hybrid is unique as its DNA is more distantly removed from humans than other recently discovered hominins like the Denisovan individual,” explains Ketchum.

“Sasquatch nuclear DNA is incredibly novel and not at all what we had expected. While it has human nuclear DNA within its genome, there are also distinctly non-human, non-archaic hominin, and non-ape sequences. We describe it as a mosaic of human and novel non-human sequence. Further study is needed and is ongoing to better characterize and understand Sasquatch nuclear DNA.”

......Authors: Ketchum MS, Wojtkiewicz PW, Watts AB, Spence DW, Holzenburg AK, Toler DG, Prychitko TM, Zhang F, Bollinger S, Shoulders R, Smith R........

Does anyone know anything about any of the co-authors? Is there anyone of repute putting their reputation on the line here?

Mike

So they go from... "Purported Sasquatch samples" through to "The North American Sasquatch is a hybrid species", via "Sasquatch DNA"? Way to be definitive. Well, why the hell not?... I guess. If you're going to serve up crap, might as well pile it high on the plate. It's certainly a "novel" something...

OS, look at the other article in the "Denovo" Journal. It looks like it was written by a kid. This is Volume 1 Issue 1. There is no peer review, she published it in a homemade online journal.

The study, “Novel North American Hominins, Next Generation Sequencing of Three Whole Genomes and Associated Studies,” was conducted by a team of experts in genetics, forensics, imaging and pathology. The team, led by Dr. Melba Ketchum of DNA Diagnostics in Nacogdoches, TX, included Dr. Pat Wojtkiecicz, Director of the North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory; Ms. Aliece Watts of Integrated Forensic Laboratories in Euless, TX;  Mr. David Spence, Trace Evidence Supervisor at Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences; Dr. Andreas K. Holzenburg, Director of the Microscopy & Imaging Center at Texas A&M University; Dr. Douglas G. Toler of Huguley Pathology Consultants in Fort Worth, TX; Dr. Thomas M. Prychitko of Wayne State University in Michigan; Dr. Fan Zhang of the University of North Texas Health Science Center; and Sarah Bollinger, Ray Shoulders, and Ryan Smith of DNA Diagnostics.

Anyone want to take the bet these forensic labs were used to do some outsourced sequencing and had no idea the directors would end up as authors on a bigfoot paper?
