Merged General Israel/Palestine discussion thread - Part 2

If that's the case in this specific incident, then it's a no-brainer, but Darth was talking about "informational warfare" and advocacy. In his opinion, if I understand him correctly, it's those elements that could make reporters and other media professionals "on side" and not eligible for special protection in the modern era of 4th generational warfare.

For the record, although I do respect DR, I disagree with him on this issue. If some international entity gets around to writing a new set of rules for 4GW that allow the targeting of Journalists if they are propagandists, then I'll be with him. Until then, you gotta look at the rules as they are.

But that discussion is hypothetical. As Marksman pointed out, in the real world those reporters were transporting a Hamas commander. HRW appears to be 0/4 on this one.
Which means they were giving material support to Hamas, and weren't just journalists.

Anyone on either side playing a direct combat or combat-support role is a legit target for attack. But those roles have to be strictly defined. AFAIC, stretching those categories to include non-direct participants, such as journalists, doctors and politicians is either a war crime or it should be.

Clearly, if there is good evidence that someone is using their job as a cover while actually performing the duties of a soldier, then that's a combatant and a legitimate target.

Are you just figuring that out?! Because I've been saying that for more than a week, but you keep arguing with me and Mycroft as if we've been saying the opposite. Can you please dial back the contrariness?

Why do you think I was arguing?

I have no idea why you were arguing since you keep taking issue with things that people are agreeing with you on, but writing it out as if they were disagreeing with you.

You said a few things that appeared contradictory in your first few posts, I just wanted to clear that up.

Then you need to take the paranoid-blinders off and read more carefully. I first "clarified" in response to your first unnecessarily belligerent post ten days ago. And yet it still took me three additional posts essentially repeating myself and begging you to stop with the aggression to get you to finally see it. Sheesh.

I think it was cleared up early on. I think we're talking past each other.

Bulgarian investigation finds Hezbollah responsible for tourist bus bombing.

Bulgaria has pointed an accusing finger at the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah over a bus bombing last July that killed five Israeli tourists.

Tsvetan Tsevtnov, Bulgarian interior minister, said on Tuesday that two of the suspects had entered the country respectively with an Australian and a Canadian passport.

"We have established that the two were members of the military wing of Hezbollah," he said.

"They had Canadian and Australian passports ... [and] lived in Lebanon since 2006 and 2010."

Speaking after a meeting of the country's National Security Council, Tsevtnov said Bulgaria expects "the government of Lebanon to assist" in the investigation.

Following his comments, Najib Mikati, Lebanese prime minister, said in a statement: "Lebanon trusts that the Bulgarian authorities will undertake a serious evaluation of the results of the investigation, and affirms that it is ready to cooperate with Bulgaria to shed light on the circumstances" of the attack.

Obviously, the Zionists have paid off the Bulgarians to produce these lies. Everyone knows this was an Israeli "false flag" operation.

Maybe that will finally prod the EU to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

Which do you predict will happen first: EU designates Hezbollah (including its "political" division) a terrorist organization -or- Prof. Chomsky pays them another photo-op visit celebrating their "noble struggle"?

Prof. Chomsky pays them another photo-op visit celebrating their "noble struggle"?
This has happened:eye-poppi?!

Oh, wait, yes of course, they're "just defending their country" :hurl: .

In other news, Egypt just barred its whole country from accessing YouTube after taking offense at one of the films distributed there ("Innocence of Muslims").
Proudly marching into the... 5th century?

Palestinian infant was killed by Palestinian rocket

http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifes...355134-8b53-11e2-b63f-f53fb9f2fcb4_story.html
It was surely one of the most heart-wrenching — and controversial — news photos of the past year, and maybe many years.

The image of a Palestinian man, his head thrown back in grief as he cradled the shrouded body of his infant son, set off a fierce war of words between Israeli and Palestinian factions when newspapers and Web sites published it in November. Palestinian supporters saw the photo, taken by an Associated Press photographer, as evidence of the Israeli military’s aggression against Palestinian civilians; Israel’s supporters viewed it as a carefully orchestrated bit of propaganda designed to engender sympathy for Palestinians during the brief Gaza-Israeli conflict.

. . .

Nearly four months after the image was circulated worldwide, a U.N. commission has concluded that Israel was not directly responsible for the child’s death. The baby apparently was killed by a Palestinian rocket that fell on his family’s house in Gaza, it said. The rocket, fired by militants in Gaza, was one of hundreds aimed at Israelis during the eight-day conflict.

. . .

The Post’s caption on the photo said the child died “after an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City,” which implied Israeli culpability. In light of the U.N. report, the paper said it would publish an editor’s note in Wednesday’s editions along with the photo that clarifies the circumstances surrounding it. The note reads, in part, that the U.N. report “has now cast doubt” on Israel’s involvement.

The Associated Press on Tuesday issued a correction for its caption for the photo. It wrote, “An errant Palestinian rocket, not an Israeli airstrike, likely killed the child during fighting in the Hamas-ruled territory last November, a U.N. report indicated, challenging the widely believed story behind the image which became a symbol of what Palestinians said was Israeli aggression.”

Well good. Now the father of the dead child can move on.

Israel pretty routinely kills Gaza residents, and Gaza residents pretty routinely kill non-Gaza Israeli's. I don't see how which rocket killed this child is especially important except to those that would use it to shape public opinion.

I truly wish the news writers would stop referring to monsters who fire rockets into civilian areas as "militants". They are terrorists. The Black Panthers were militants.
