Annnnnnnnnnd It's a wrap !

Lets recap this wild and treacherous journey through the pachinko macjine like thought processes of the social justice warriors.

We open with a limrick, then a bomb is dropped, not one but two accusations of sexual harassment. Cut to demands for an apology coupled with outright denial that those accusations ever existed.

An apology was issued, a "notpology" according to the denizins of A+

Then we have the accused offering up the accusations as evidence that, yes, indeed, the accusations existed.

A full on ceepolk meltdown resulting in what looks like a ban and a locking of the thread.

Fade to black.

Skeptics? I don't think so.

Heh, this whole limerick thing reminds me of the Portlandia skit with the bookstore feminists when they got all offended at the a/c repairman when kept asking where the unit was.

New developments at A+ in the "Are the moderators..." thread:

In detail: somebody has let slip to Wind that there is a secret forum where everybody actually posts (wondering why it was so dead?). In that space apparently people are less... careful than they are in the open space. The implication is that's where all the real discussion happens, including deciding who gets shunned, who gets dogpiled etc. Obviously you would be forgiven for thinking there could be no such organisation involved in running A+ considering their conduct so far, but there you go.

The response to this was initially denial. Then a couple of people let slip that it was true. Denial and admission overlapped for a while, but they settled on admitting it happened and then pumping Wind to find out who his source was by trying to butter him up (saying he was being manipulated into hurting the forum). Rightly, they are concerned that their EVEN-SAFER space has been infiltrated by somebody who doesn't like A+, which is completely unsurprising when you consider that is ALWAYS what happens with secret places like that. People who posted compromising personal details on there are no-doubt very nervous at the idea that this guy is going to release it (to clarify my own stance: that would be a pretty horrible thing to do).

Unfortunately for them, Wind's response was to deny his source. The people there KNOW he must have a source, but can't get it out of him. I wouldn't be surprised if they crack into the forum to find out (if Wind and his source conversed by PM).

I thought only "pariahs" like Thunderf00t would do things like this! :D

Taking Offense and the Atheist Experience

Can one take that position, and still be an atheist?

If the subjective experience of offense is proof of offense, then the subjective experience of the presence of God (which many people have experienced) should certainly be sufficient proof of the presence of God.

Respectfully,
Myriad

The subjective experience is proof, or evidence, of the subjective experience and nothing more. Glorifying it is incompatible with atheism and critical thinking. Feeling offended says nothing at all about the intent of the one you accuse of offending you.

If it's a formal component of Atheism Plus to derive such information from subjective experience, then it's better referred to as Atheism Minus (minus rational critical thinking).

The subjective experience is the source of belief in Gods.
Found this in The Atheist Experience (3:10):

"I'm not an evolved being, and I don't appreciate you calling me a monkey, either, I think that's offensive"

But, but, but......I thought the person who was offended first was supposed to win. Oh,, maybe that only applies to the A+ illuminati while the plebes just have to go with the flow. How else could they pull off something as ridiculous as the limerick thread, that had to be a set up.

So it looks like it's one massive triggerfest and if they melt down any further I may just have to encase their server in a concrete sarcophagus.

I swear they just make this stuff up as they go along.

Has JREF done something awful to Wind? Or is Ceepolk gaslighting him?

...and I'm really, *Really* *********** sorry that the JREF has turned on you. I know you liked that place and you were very enthusiastic about it. I'm so damn sorry they didn't deserve your admiration, Wind. So sorry...

I think perhaps that xe has misread this post there:
The JREF has a thread in the Religion & Philosophy forum that is dedicated to bashing Atheism+. It's 66 pages long, and the latest posts there are about you and this thread.

The bashing (a slight overstatement) is aimed at the forum, not Wind.

I was intrigued by this, from Wind
Darat (who is an atheist social justice warrior) is made of awesome.

Well, if you are reading this Wind (I know your JREF name is different), I don't think anyone here is mocking you. Pointing out how messed up that place is (as you are) is important.

The JREF champions free thought and free speech. They are more than welcome to come here and engage in discussion.

In addition: remembering your JREF name has made me also remember that you're not a dude. Sorry!

Interesting point. Not at all sure what the A+ response would be, and as they discourage debating, I doubt any would dare introduce it. Likely it would probably be considered blasphemy. :D

While it's easy to laugh at some of the brouhahas that develop at A+ and the kind of newspeak they've developed, there are some really bright people there and it gives me hope faster minds will prevail. The recent dialectic with wind is imo the most rational and tolerant I've seen in that 'mods are capricious..' thread.

I just found out about this JREF topic thanks to Sun Princess at A+, so there may be a funny kind of recursion in play here. Whatdya say, RP? :id:

This thread is "dedicated" to discussing Atheism+, not bashing it.

If Atheism+ were a good thing and fully defensible, someone would be engaged in a robust defense of it here, and might even be winning.

At least troll us, will you? Our Atheism+ bashing echo chamber does get boring at times.

I'm a bit of a contrarian, so would enjoy devil's advocating for them, but can't. They're too crazy.

On the other hand, this speech of Watson's made me really sympathize what she's been feeling since Elevatorgate, though I only lasted 20 minutes or so.

I see you're doing the lovable old duffer routine over there, too; it'll be interesting how well it goes down. :) It's like Ed Reardon in real life. The question is, has piegasm deliberately played with your user name while you're being told off for doing the same thing?

This seems a fallacy, somehow.

So, what would explain how Atheism+ could be a good thing and fully defensible, while no one would be engaged in a robust defense of it here? The JREF has detractors of all its main positions very busily arguing against us on this forum. Why hardly a whisper from Atheism Plus in a thread named for it?

A test of the quality of an idea is its ability to stand up to challenges. Atheism Plus cowers from challenges to their ideology, which suggests its proponents are aware its brittle foundation.

Here's a list of logical fallacies. You can pick one. False dilemma?
