Obama appoints a couple white guys, media freaks out

Strange, I remember Obama wanting to nominate a woman (and a woman of color, no less) as Secretary of State, and Members of a Certain Political Party being quite upset about that.

would i be Obama, i would only nominate White guys, no problems with birth certificates that way :D

The media doing this is bad enough, but Republicans are criticizing Obama for this. Mike Freaking Huckabee of all people actually had the gonads to accuse Obama of a "War on Women" over his cabinet picks I hear he and his fellow misogynistic dinosaurs Republicans are especially upset that Obama didn't nominate a woman to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Clearly Republicans are in a strong position to talk because, oh wait . . .
House committee chairs all men

At the top of House committees, it’s a man’s world.

Not a single woman will lead any of the major House committees in the 113th Congress.

After a day of meetings closed to the public, the House Republican Steering Committee announced an all-male slate of committee chairs, including 12 returning lawmakers who will head up some of the most important panels in Washington. The chairs for the House Ethics Committee and House Administration Committee have yet to be chosen, so a woman could end up in one of those slots.

I believe a woman was eventually chosen to chair one of those minor committees, but those are not considered important committees.

I think because of all the fuss that Obama pretty much has to pick a woman or minority for Labor Secretary to replace Hilda Solis.

It's still largely a white dude's game, and most of the people in line are same, and like any president he has many political debts to pay off. He was re-elected and has nothing to do but retire to elder statesman, so best to get busy. Be glad for the diversity you got.

Can they do the job? Anyone who's not asking that question first is just being racist.

Diversity is just a code word for picking somebody who isn't qualified. Good for Obama that he doesn't feel the need to pick the right race or gender, just the right person.

Well, it is when republicons do it, but that does not mean that grown-ups have a problem when they do find a qualified woman or non-white with putting them into positions where their talent is needed. The republicons, by contrast, go ape on any woman who they feel is at all a threat to their superstitions ( like Warren) and will still promote a total ditz (Palin,Bachmann,Brewer,Angle) who toes the party line.

I always thought diversity was code for, picking the right person for the job, regardless of race or gender.

Perhaps the "right" thinks that the most qualified people are almost always white and male.
