Julia Gillard - liar

Well to start with, the budget is not in deficit, so you are predicting a "lie", which is a pretty good effort.

In any case, you are still wrong. If circumstances change, circumstances change, so her earlier commitment is also subject to change. Alfie, if you promised your children you would take them on a holiday, but lost you your job and couldn't, are you a liar or a victim of circumstance?

Get it now?

True enough, I also said precisely so from the outset. :boggled:

Perhaps you missed when she said this:
'No ifs, no buts'

It seems you are already making her excuses (which is also what I predicted).

Thank you for confirming and validating many of my original points.
I am indebted to you yet again. :)

Ignoring the gist of my post. If your circumstances change beyond your control and you change your plans, are you a liar?

Explained already. You really should read more and attack less. You wouldn't look quite so silly.

But I would like to take the opportunity to thank you again for pointing out that excuses for her "no ifs, no buts" promise would come very quickly.
You are doing (or edging towards) that for her right now.

Where's my million?

Thanks again. :)

Okay, don't answer. Let others decide.

Just to repeat my position, every PM has changed his or hers position depending on the circumstances. This has not been contradicted. So every PM is a liar, or simply a politician.

Really, this whole thread is based on the lie that changing policies and decisions depending on circumstances is a lie. A pointless thread from start to finish.

"No ifs, no buts"

Kinda speaks for itself I reckon.

She really does need a drentist,...... and fast.

eta. I feel really sorry for your kids too. All those promises of holidays etc and all that disappointment. Some small 'l' liberals I know think that akin to child abuse.

And it's confirmed:

The 'no ifs, no buts' surplus has been officially abandoned by the Labor government.
The promise was given as a deflection to the argument she was spending too much; she was totally dishonest and hung her hat on hopes rather than facts.

Can we seriously believe anything the PM ever says? Only a fool could.

And only a fool could fail to appreciate that this is the only sensible decision. Applauded by everyone but the noalition. Abbott is a fool and is starting to sink.

This issue has no legs at all and will be forgotten by the time parlament next sits.

So we can expect any promise a political leader makes with hand on heart to be an outrageous lie, I guess.

The point is not whether it is sensible or not to have a surplus now, the point is that she told convenient lies to excuse or mitigate her past behaviour (i.e. massive deficits).

Like I said, only a fool would believe anything this PM says, and only a bigger fool would miss this point and condone her lies. I do not believe anyone here to be a fool; but I will be happily corrected. :)

Yeah yeah, "never, ever" and "non-core promises" John Howard.

I challenged you before to name just one PM who hasn't changed position in the national interest. You failed to do so because you can't.

So it seems the views of everyone on the surplus issue can be summarised as follows:

Economists and a majority of Australians - Finally some common sense.

Alfie and the Coalition: LOOK AT THE LYING LIAR WHO LIES! SHE LIED THE LIAR CLEARLY SHE'S A LYING LIAR!

Too bad the latter doesn't seem to care about the realities of the situation and instead just want to whinge.

1. Is it 63%? Second lowest LN-P LOTO ever?

2. I think the LOTO will have far more pressing issues come Feb 2013. Like I said some time ago, it won't just be The Rabbit (run rabbit run [you're included Pyne]), the whole of the L-NP front bench is on notice (others as well more than likely). Good lucks boys! Oh sorry that includes one 70 year old woman, a complete lunatic and someone that at times appears to be a woman.

Good FSM, it's 21/12/2012 and the world hasn't caved in on itself because of JG's carbon PRICE!

The reason for the turnaround is immaterial; the 'no ifs, no buts' promise should never have been given. It was done so to deflect the scrutiny she was facing at the time. Reckless and/or stupid as best, an outright lie at worst.

Why would anyone believe a words she says? She will say and do anything to get her out of a squeeze, deflect or just to meet her ends.

Even this month there were still promises that the budget surplus would be delivered when even the most economically illiterate knew the truth.

The turkey is being stuffed.

The only real question left is whether she will lead Labor over the cliff, or will they replace her ahead of the election. If Tony Abbott will beat her by the length of the straight..... well, it kinds shows how well she is going doesn't it?

Er, Alfie, it was only a few posts ago:

Any comment?

It's already been covered. It seems that you are playing the incredibly childish "well he did it, so we can" game. The change in policy is not the issue.... in fact I agree with the change, why it was promised in the first instance is the question; it was "reckless and/or stupid as best, an outright lie at worst".
The not too bright would try and mix the political with the economic, when they need to be looked at through different prisms.

A fool would believe anything this PM says, and only a bigger fool would miss this point and condone her lies.

This is an amazing editorial from The Herald Sun today. It does not hold back at all, calling the broken promise for exactly what it is. The article is remarkable in its bluntness.

Highlights:

Labor tells a whopper about Budget
(and that's just the heading)

Its promised Budget surplus was nothing more than a political fantasy.

Economic data made it clear Labor's much promised surplus was unachievable. Yet the Prime Minister and Treasurer belligerently stuck to their mantra in what can only be described as a cynical political ploy.

People will ask, not unreasonably, if they can ever trust this Government.

Similar ineptitude and political cynicism was behind the promise of a Budget surplus. It was to convince voters Labor was in control of the economy when clearly it was not.

Ms Gillard and Mr Swan are governed by their political ambition. Now, they are forced to recognise its economic impossibility.

Wow!
