Why so much attention to the Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito case

Why so much attention to the Amanda Knox case?

No, not based upon the information presented in this thread, which allows one to compare Ms. Knox with some peer groups. In addition, all four flatmates in Perugia were sexually active, although less information has emerged about their intimate behaviors.

I am wondering if this applies to males the same way as females.

I've never really got involved with these threads, but I have taken some interest in the case. I happened to hear part of a reading of a book about the case on the radio and I found myself drawn in by both the compelling nature of the characters and the circumstances. Rudy Guede's backstory I found particularly fascinating. And Amanda Knox seemed to have a different and more interesting personality than I would have expected. It's a better and far less simplistic story than the last John Grisham novel I read and since it's real, a happy ending delivers a much more satisfying punch.

Also, in general, I find stories of dramatic questionable convictions and media distortions followed by battles for justice interesting. I watched all of the WM3 films and read Damien Echols' book. I'm sure there are tons of interesting similar stories of false convictions and such that are barely discussed. But if they do not draw significant media attention then it can be hard to learn a whole lot about them on a casual basis.

I didn't get involved in the threads, because the 1000s of previous unread posts just made the prospect unattractive. Plus when I glanced inside I couldn't really follow what people were talking about. I wasn't interested enough to want to learn every detail of the evidence with either AK or WM3.

No, it's the old sexist double standard. A woman has sex with a few guys and she's a whore. But if a guy does the same he's gay.

I quote the dictionary, you offer another prejudice and Anglolawyer applauds. ETA sorry, I meant Halides.

Way to go. Lol

What did your quote have to do with the topic? The question is not the meaning of the word 'whore' but why the Knox case got so much attention. That it offers an opportunity for some to vent their prejudices against women is a possible theory, well-illustrated by Unloved rebel's fatuous posts. What have you to say about that? Anything?

There is no need to rewrite the dictionary. It's fine as it is.

What changes did you have in mind for the haters?

Personally I am indifferent to other peoples prejudices.

Water off a ducks back so to speak.

This is off topic. Evidently, you cannot relate your post to the topic and are simply trolling.

It goes to show that the public in general are quite taken with the seedy side of other peoples lives.

What is your answer to my question wrt the significance of the dictionary definition as it relates to Ms Knox?

Yes or no will suffice.

It's a good question, but...

Hyperbole?
That question would be better directed at yourself or at Skwinty IMO. If his claim is that Ms. Knox's behavior fits his definitions, then he needs to explain what is incorrect or misleading with respect to the evidence already presented here.

One wonders why the word "whore" is even a part of this discussion. Obviously, there are two distinct groups interested in paying attention to the case -- those who take it seriously, and those who number among the lowest common denominator of society when it comes to intellect and respect for others. The latter will involve themselves in every famous case -- yawn. Probably the motivations of the former are more deserving of our attention.

Really, please point me in the direction of any post on this thread where I have said anything negative let alone hateful about Ms Knox.

The definition of ***** as it stands is problematic in the general case. The presence of the word "considered" in the definition makes me want to ask, "By whom?" The use of the word "many" in the definition of promiscuous is vague.

My opinion is that the words under discussion should only be applied when a comparison is being made between a person and an appropriate peer group. Based on the surveys presented upthread and on anecdotal evidence, they do not apply to Ms. Knox. Or if one does not accept that is it appropriate to compare to a peer group, then one is forced to say that the words in question apply to a substantial fraction of young people.

clarification

You didn't, and I am happy to clarify. You did make one statement that was hyperbolic IMO, namely comment #112.

How so? What is this 'it' of which you speak? The word 'whore'? How does this word show anything? You need to explain this better.

What is your answer to my question wrt the significance of the dictionary definition as it relates to Ms Knox?

Yes or no will suffice.

I'll answer it when you put it on the right thread.
