Dr Phil promotes "Satanic Ritual Abuse" conspiracy theory

I really do think this whole thing has unexpectedly reached a tipping point. I really can't thank Judy Weindorf and Dr. Phil enough for helping people to realize what I'd been screaming about hopelessly for years: the field of therapy is still polluted by deranged conspiracist lunatics who need to be stopped. It looks like outrage over Judy's idiotic book can segue into a productive assault upon these damaging and exploitative morons. Maybe I should send Judy a card and a box of chocolates. Or maybe just a card with a picture of me eating a box of chocolates inside. This reminds me of when I wrote a scathing book review in Skeptic magazine and the author of the book addressed my review on her blog stating that I reminded her of a male version of some woman I had never heard of before. Turns out, the woman I had never heard of before read this too, found me on Facebook, and turned out to also live in Cambridge. We became fast friends -- she was an editor for New Scientist now completing a book for Random House. Anyway, we owe our friendship to a ranting and hysterical creationist who was apparently trying to emasculate me in the comparison: http://mindfulhack.blogspot.com/2009/04/skeptics-review-of-spiritual-brain.html

Ms. Byington-Wiendorf, if you are reading this, I thank you as well. You may have done more to advance the cause of good therapy than you will ever know ;)

As they saying goes:
just give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves, eh?
Metaphorically of course.
But I could go find some rope.......

Off to FB in a minute, but I just checked my emails and received a response to my complaint to the Utah Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing.

"Thank you Ms Nay, however DOPL has already addressed this complaint."

Does anyone know anything more? Are they going to take action?

Hmm. That's all it said? I can call or email the investigator directly and see if there is something going on.

Yes, that's the whole thing.

It would be great if you could find out more that way.

Have you had a chance to chase this up, Doug? I know you've been busy.

We are too late to effect any changes to the upcoming DSM-5, but The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is now being revised.

http://www.who.int/classifications/icd/revision/icd11faq/en/index.html

Looking at the Beta version of the ICD-11, it doesn't list DID, however MPD is listed under "factitious disorders". :)

Promising!

Dancing David, or others, how do we get that made official?

Actually, don't quote me on that. MPD and DID may not even be in the ICD-11.

Could anyone help me out here?

I wonder if Phil's producers are getting their content ideas from hanging in the forum.

Amazing. It says: "Psychic medium John Edward is back by popular demand and ready to take on his skeptics, including Dr. Phil."
Including Dr. Phil? That both suggests that Dr. Phil is a skeptic and that there are other established skeptics on the show, but none are listed. If it turns out to be the case, as it is beginning to appear to be, that Phil doesn't run his 22 Faces episode, we see just how ridiculous something really has to be for Phil's show NOT to air it.

I half bet the show with Judy Byington will air in the next couple of weeks.

Kelly Jolkowski heard about tomorrow's show with psychics on October 12, a week before your Examiner article in my OP was published.

Nothing's too stupid for Dr Phil.

Prove me wrong, Dr Phil.

Also, I can't find any comments or review by Felicity Lee at Amazon anymore.

Felicity's now using the name "Yogurt Lover"

Judy just made another comment about her involvement with the Utah AG, and she's claiming that neither you nor Doug have had any contact with them.

Judy Byington said:
Kamakazi, another of Douglas Misicko's many aliases, repeats liable statements about what others have supposedly said about myself and 22 Faces including Jenny's sister Susan and the Utah AG office. The truth is Mr. Misicko has never met Susan, nor had a conversation with her. Neither has he met anyone at the Utah AG office, nor had a conversation with them. He does continue to refer to so-called emails from the Utah AG office which if he has them, would be clearly labeled "confidential, not to be released" as is every email from the Utah AG office. The bottom line is, page 421 of 22 Faces outlines my relationship with different investigators at the Utah AG office. I have taped recordings of my consultations with them as well as a large paper trail that begins in 1992 and continues today including a letter of confirmation by Utah Lieutenant Attorney General Reed Richards. If anyone wants more detail, read my next book, "Saints, Sinners and Satan."

Judy's comment is on page 8 of this review thread: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3FASO...0240327&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=#wasThisHelpful

Thanks. She doesn't actually mention me, however I suspect she's read my Dysgenics blog post where I mention the confidentiality of the first email.

Note, she still doesn't provide evidence of working for them today.

Interesting sig:

"Choose ye this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Someone trying to friend you, Orphia?

Not really, but the avatar looks familiar from my recent reading on DID and at Amazon.

Thanks. She doesn't actually mention me, however I suspect she's read my Dysgenics blog post where I mention the confidentiality of the first email.

Yes, you're right, she doesn't mention your name at all. I apologize for the confusion. I associated it with both of you because Judy seems to believe (or pretends to believe?) that everyone commenting at Amazon is actually Doug posting under an alias, so half the time when she's directing a comment to "Doug" she's really replying to someone else.

I know it's unlikely but I really want to see the AG's office call her out on this, preferably with a public statement.

Orphia, Douglas, et. al.,

I am not on, nor do I intend to join, Facebook, so if you have been discussing this on that network, I am not aware of it.

I have not sent my letter to the Utah Attorney General, pending your confirmation or not of whether the pertinent parts of my letter need revision.

I await your response(s).

I am considering sending the following letter to the Utah Attorney General. Before I do so, I wish to be certain that I am not making false statements.

If you read this and see nothing incorrect, please do not respond.

On the other hand, if you see errors of fact, as opposed to opinions, please tell me.

Mr. Mark Shurtleff
Attorney General
State of Utah
(via email)

Dear Mr. Shurtleff:

I believe that the prestige and honesty of the Utah Attorney General's office are being placed in jeopardy.

Recently, a book entitled Twenty-Two Faces was published by Ms. Judy Byington Weindorf. This is the allegedly true story of a victim of Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), also known as Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD).

SRA was sensationalized in the 1980s, and discredited by the mid-1990s. Ms. Byington was practicing as a licensed social worker during that time.

It is not conceivable that she was then, or is now, unaware of the withdrawal of support for these diagnoses, withdrawal that was disseminated widely through the psychological and social work community in newspapers, newsletters and professional journals, as were the studies showing that supposedly “recovered” memories of widespread systematic child abuse, molestation, torture, and even murder were false and were induced by the so-called therapists.

As part of her defense of her book, Ms. Byington has been stating that she was, and remains, a consultant to the Attorney General on SRA, DID. and MPD. Several people whom I know have recently queried the Department of Professional Licensing about Ms. Byington. One of them received an email message from Craig Barlow, Chief of the Children's Justice Division. Mr Barlow characterized Ms. Byington's claim as “a lie.” (I can have my acquaintance verify this, as I am sure Mr. Barlow would do also.)

According to her own statements, Ms. Byington has been giving seminars and webinars on the treatment of D.I.D. resulting from Satanic Ritual Abuse. I believe that she has also been offering fee-based counseling sessions. I do not know if the latter is legal or not; she is not currently licensed in Utah, which state is, I believe, her residence.

Ms. Byington has been told online that the Attorney General's office denies her being a consultant. Her response has been to say that the person(s) making that statement merely don't know about her; they are in some other part of your organization. The truth, she says, will be revealed in her next book.

Quite apart from the veracity of her statements, Ms. Byington's implying such a relationship cannot be anything but detrimental to your Office.

I will be happy to direct your staff to online connections and discussions related to these matters.

I should make it clear that the contents of this letter contain my personal opinion. Although I am sending this through the email system of the State University, my letter does not represent the opinion of the State University, nor the College where I taught, nor my Department.

xterra

Sorry for not responding to this earlier.

Craig Barlow is from the Utah AG's office, not the DOPL.

The DOPL are, or have, investigated Judy's practising without a licence. See the case number below:

As I understand it, these are two separate offices. Barlow works for the AG and that office was queried directly (Orphia?) for clarification purposes only, not for prosecution.

To help build a felony prosecution, you need to contact

You don't have to live in Utah and the form is real simple to fill out online.

Case#: 62402
There is evidence she is soliciting people for her "therapy".

She uses her URL in any news story. She has not had a licence in 10 years and yet you see a statement like this on her site...scroll down a bit. How many more Jennys is she harming? http://22faces.com/contact/

She was also holding a seminar for which she was charging $50 on November 17th http://www.survivorship.org/webinars.html
Multiple Personality Formation and Functioning Webinar
This event is on 17 November 2012
“Multiple Personality Formation and Functioning”
Webinar by Judy Byington, MSW, LCSW, ret
An online webinar for survivors and professionals

And she admitted to doing a therapy session with Hill (forward to 15:38) http://kcpw.org/blog/cityviews/2012-...ts-and-belles/
It would be helpful to cite specifics in the complaint.

When enough people complained a "life coach" in UT got slapped with a felony charge. What Judy is doing is so much more harmful than life-coaching. But nothing will be done if people don't complain. They only act on the complaints they receive...the more they get for a case, the more likely it is to get attention. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/6...ty.html?pg=all
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I too invite noting of and clarification on potential errors of the above.

I'm not sure I'd confuse the issue and mention the DOPL matter until we know the outcome.

I'd just stick to Judy's claims in her Press Kit about working for the Utah AG's office since 2006, and her similar claims on Amazon.

Hold onto that freezepage!!!

Douglas, please give me a page reference for this so I can include it in my letter:

"Since 2006 she has worked with Utah Attorney General Special Investigations Section Chief Charles Haussler."

Where did you get that quote?

I've never seen her say that.

Thanks for getting involved, xterra.

I'd love that too. Perhaps if more people like xterra send complaints to them they might!

She's referred to me as 'this unknown woman calling herself "Orphia Nay" from Australia', but that's as far as she's gone.

I've never seen Judy accuse me of being Doug, dammit. I want to be Spartacus too!

I think I shall sign my posts as Doug from now on anyway, to get her back. :)

Best wishes

Doug. :D

Perhaps if more people like xterra send complaints to them they might!

I've had my own email to the AG sitting in my draft folder for almost a month now :o

Before I send it, do you have any objection to me including a link to your dysgenics post?
